I have this 1951 Chevy which likely is one of my least successful builds of all time. I remember having all sorts of problems trying to put this thing together. So instead of restoring it I'll take it apart and use it in the resto shop of my diorama. It'll be a freshly stripped chassis which hasn't been cleaned up yet. A few parts will be scattered about and some of the body parts will be shown under restoration. I'll use this to practice some weathering techniques and some fabbing. If I break something, it won't be a great loss. The frame has open channels at the top. I closed that up with thin styrene strips. Similarly the gas tank has only a bottom so I raised the walls a bit and made a top with some corrugated siding sheet. Added a drain plug. Fabbed up a poseable steering using the original spindles and tie rods with some tubing & rod bits. The rear shocks' top mounted to the floor pan so I made up some upper shock mount brackets.

Hang in there, it'll dull. It was still wet when I took the picture. -
Years ago I had built a 1951 Chevy which I never liked. Nothing fit, it was never right. I want to use it to put in the restoration bay of my diorama which is an engine rebuilding shop with a small restoration business attached. I plan to show the bare frame before it is cleaned up and sandblasted. I'm looking for ideas on how to go about showing a grimy unrestored frame.

That is Ontario licence plate blue. I had a couple of cans mixed to restore some plates in my collection. I'm using the rest as my FTB fleet color. -

I'll be 65 in August. I started in the 50's when my uncle gave me four or five WWII fighters, Spitfire. Mustang, Messerschmitt, Zero and I can't think of the other one. Next came the 1939/40 Ford kit and hundreds following that.A truck period in the 70's. Classic cars in the latter part. I built pretty well throughout my life with a few dry spells. The last 2000-2014 was the longest. I was on the road a lot and I built models in my hotel room to stay out of the bars .

Thanks but it looks like it will be difficult to get the paint to stay on them. Opening them will show the brass. -

Went to get the primed body in the garage this morning to sand it and add some filler as required. Dropped the grille/fender assembly on the floor. Had to put it back together. -

Does that chrome smudge like Alclad does when you handle it? This is turning into a lovely brute. -
It is from a GMC Astro and I got it on eBay, from Spaulding.

I thought I'd be just about ready to prime the cab today, but nooo....I had to add something else. An attempt at the cowl side grilles. Micromesh, wire & half round. Now I've succeeded in giving myself a few more hours of puttying & sanding. -

Hey Rob, it looks like sanding 101 times got everything smooth. You are well on your way. -

Little stuff tonight. Exhaust stack support, rain caps, quarter fenders, turn signals, rear mudgards. All of it will need touch ups of course. -
When i packed up my models about 12 years ago I wrapped them in Saran wrap so that any part falling off would stay with it. Baaad move/ almopst all of them are marked. Of course they were in there a dozen years at least.
