Very sharp and interesting! I don't think I have ever seen a SOHC painted red before--either real or model. What's the wheelbase on those Polar Lights chassis?

A recent issue of one of the aviation magazines--Air & Space or Aviation History, I don't remember which, I buy 'em at Walmart if they have any articles I'm interested in that month--had a story on the astronaut Corvettes, and not just the '69s. I'll see if I can find it in the pile, if you're interested. ETA: Seems to be the June-July 2019 issue of Air & Space. Article's available online.

That's not a bad price for a brand-new GL model. DMW has a flat $10 shipping charge, so why not go ahead and get a 2020 Vette and maybe another thing you want they have on sale (they often have 1/24s on sale for $15 and charge the whole thing up against next month's model budget? It's not like you have to renew your subscription to SA. I'm not that wild about the paint scheme or I'd get one. I have C3 Vettes from at least two, maybe three other makers and would like to compare them. I'm looking forward to seeing what other variants follow, as they inevitably will with GL. BTW, take a good look at that DMW link. The model seems to have a (too shallow) L88 type hood in the packaged photos, but a small-block hook in the larger pic. The one in the box also seems to be missing its mirror. Dahell?

Hmmmmm. Would it be double-ugly, or ugly squared? Ironically, even as we speak, I'm awaiting delivery of a Tom Daniel Vette I bought on eBay last week. I also bought a near-complete, restorable-ish glue bomb at the local toy show last year. I'm not a huge fan of the car, as I think he went a bit over the top with the reptile-like scales and all, but something draws me to it, and it was a real car after all. My plan is to rebuild one of them to "stock" TD configuration, and then take the leftover parts and see what I can do to improve it and make it more to my liking and tastes. They should look interesting together.

Very nice! I need to build one of these sometime soon! Well done and model on!

They didn't sound that insane to me. But then, about that time, I was listening to Bowie, Mott the Hoople, early REO Speedwagon and Aerosmith, some Lou Reed, Roxy Music, and so forth. I mentally had Starz in the same box but checking, I see they didn't debut till a couple years later (1977). What blew my mind was years later when I found out that "Buster Poindexter" and David Johansen were the same person! -

I actually own that, believe it or not! Didn't recognize the song title or remember the song. Looked it up on wiki and the only two song titles I recognized at all were Lookin' for a Kiss and Vietnamese Baby. I must not have had it heavy rotation back in the day. -

And sci-fi. For a while there it was a rare issue that didn't feature something from Star Trek or Star Wars. -

I just checked my latest issue--looks like I expire with the October issue, so, that worked out well. I'd already started getting the usual "Time to Renew!" emails, and a couple of them in snail mail, but I didn't get a death announcement email today. I used to get so much spam junk from FSM and Kalmbach that I put them on my spam list years ago. -

I'm not familiar with that model, so can't give any specific help, sorry. -
Adding Paint to a Diecast Kit
Snake45 replied to Bucky's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
No problem whatsoever. Just mask it off, prime it, and paint it. Might not be a bad idea to scuff the paint up a little with a fine ScotchBrite pad. The paint on every diecast I've Snake-Fu'ed (somewhere around 100 now) has been pretty tough stuff, and will stand up to handling, masking, polishing, or just about anything else you'd want to do do it. What exact diecast are you working on? Maybe I can give you some specific handy tips. -
Original 1/25 AMT Cobra - A Retrospective
Snake45 replied to Gramps46's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Very cool collection, Gramps! Well done! Your yellow one reminds me a lot of my own, built in late 1966 or early '67. It's one of my oldest surviving builds as-is, and my oldest surviving original paint job. I gave it a good cleaning and repaired a couple things in 2016. -

Well THAT's a kick in the teeth. FineScale Modeler has IMHO been going downhill for years. No way I'll subscribe to it just for maybe one car article per issue. -
"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well generally the rule is that you have to have started on it more than a year ago (the longer, the better) but haven't worked on it steadily and/or for several months (the more the better). If it's been on your "Shelf of Doom" for a few months, we'll let it in. -
AMT '66 Mustang 2+2 GT Clean Survivor Resto-ish...Or Something...
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Cars
Thanks Bucky! Thanks Pappy! Thanks Lee! Isn't there, though? I LOVE them. Thanks for the kind words! They sure did, especially for 1966. Thanks for the kind words! Every now and then I turn up a real gem. Thanks! I wouldn't have painted it this color, but it has definitely grown on me. Thanks! Thanks! Very much appreciated coming from a master such as yourself! That's what Snake-Fu is all about--just a few little details. Thanks for the kind words! -
I'd just do it with sheet styrene.

If I had one of those and was seized by the urge to build it, I'd give a lot of thought to going ahead and making it a station wagon....

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
What do you need? There's a slight chance I might have it. That's the Monogram 1/24, right? I've got a project in mind that's going to require sacrificing one or another of the several Shelby kits I have on hand, so I MIGHT be able to help you out. No promises. -
I won a kit on eBay for $13/Shipping ridiculous?
Snake45 replied to jchrisf's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not long ago I bought a diecast worth at least $40 for $19.95, buy-it-now, shipping included! The model turned out to be missing a couple of VERY minor parts, nothing I couldn't fix or replace, otherwise in near-perfect condition. I can't imagine the seller made a nickel on the deal. -

No matter WHAT is announced by WHOM, new or old, there will be whinging about it should have been a different year, model, body style, etc.--or flat-out some other model entirely that the poster wants. (And, if the truth were known, would probably never get built if it ever were offered.)
