If you're building it as a drag car, just leave it off, forget about it and drive on. I did a quick net search and discovered it's not uncommon for racers to remove the things. Evidently it takes 25 pounds off the front end.

I like your grocery bag A LOT, and if it's a little oversize, that doesn't bother me. But I question its placement. Who would open up the back end to put in one bag, which would tip right over the first turn you made? If you had one bag of groceries, you'd either put it on the passenger seat next to you, or on the back-seat floor right behind the driver's seat. Unless of course you were hauling a load of family/kids. Then you'd put it in the back, but you'd still face the tipover problem. The obvious prescription (to paraphrase Christopher Walken) is MORE GROCERIES! Line up 3 or 4 bags across, or maybe a couple big cardboard boxes.

I like what you've done with the windshield. Changes the whole look of the model! You're inspiring me to find mine and see if I can do the same thing. Drive on!

I just now had a 404 error replying to a post in the Lounge. I went back and tried it again, this time deleting my normal winky smileycon, and it posted just fine. Yesterday or the day before, had the same thing happen--a message refused to post several times until I deleted the smiley, and then no problem at all.

No. The SC/Rambler is smaller, and its chassis not much more detailed. And keep in mind that the JoHan AMCs might actually be 1/24, not 1/25. (Recently brought to my attention by Mark--I'm still checking this out). As the AMCs were unibody (i.e., no full frame), the closest/best match might be the AMT '68 Road Runner/'69 GTX family. But others might have better ideas.

That should be do-able. I think all issues of the old Revell '56 Chev 2DS included separate chrome trim pieces for all three trim levels--150, 210, and Bel Air. The problem is finding a buildable one, as many of the later reissues have bodies so warped they can't be built. But it might be possible to pick up one of these just for the trim, and install it on a modern Revell '56 Del Ray 2DS body. I wouldn't want to do it, but you might want to.

From what I can tell, all of the participants can easily make as much power needed to cope with any track/street conditions they encounter. The skill seems to be in "reading" the track surface/traction and tuning the engine accordingly to apply just enough power to achieve maximum traction.

I think y'all can thank me for bringing this one back, too. In the last year I've spent some substantial coin on ePay buying two or three original AMT '66 promos, one "radio car," a semi-rare (soon to be reissued) modified stocker, and a very restorable original AMT full kit in original AMT box full of useful '65 and '66 original parts for restoring the others. I hope to have at least one of the promos restored by the end of the year.

This is why I've become a big fan of the Street Outlaw/No Prep series on TV. A wide variety of cars, all of which are readily identifiable, wide range of engine setups, and all heads-up. It reminds me of the mid-'60s funny car scene or the pre-Pro Stock match racers.

I was thinking the rod was molded to the bottom of one of the fins. Maybe I had an earlier issue. At any rate, when I built a couple of them later as adults, I just put some .38 or .45 bullets into the engine nacelles until it sat right. Nowadays, when I have an issue like this, my first move is to Dremel out internally everything aft of the CG. If that doesn't fix the problem entirely, it greatly reduces the amount of weight you need for balance in the front end.

Remember when scientists proved that no wheel-driven car would ever be able to go (I think it was) 175 mph in the quarter mile? I remember that every time I hear some chattering skull on TV talking about "the science is settled" on this topic or that.
