I was all set to see it, and then saw that Myatt Dyaymon was playing Carrol Shelby. Uh, no. Hard pass.

And the air filters on top of velocity stacks doesn't help the look, either. I half hear circus music in my head when I look at that.

Two of the best drag cars I’ve ever seen
Snake45 replied to NYLIBUD's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I went back and looked. Those aren't the very best paint jobs I've ever seen, but nothing about them caught my eye as "bad" the first time through. And the second time, I kinda had to look for the orange peel to see it. On the other hand, I DID spot decal film on the orange one the first time around. That stood out to me way more than the paint. -
1/25 AMT '66 Chevy Impala Modified Stocker
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I bought a cheap (HL 40% off) Foose '65 Impala specifically to do exactly that. Maybe I'll get around to that next year.- 16 replies

Huh. Well, it certainly doesn't look any worse.

That's pretty cool (except for all the Coke junk all over it), but I still can't get past that butt-ugly Pinto roof, one of the ugliest roofs ever put on an American car. I wonder what could be done to fix it? Might have to just whack it clean off and make a phantom convertible out of it.

I never have problems pouring from the 2 liter bottle. I just drink directly from it, no problem! If you don't want my germs, don't drink my Dr. Thunder!
-
The color looks very similar to one I just finished in Testor Star Spangled Blue.

Keep your eyes open for all the vac-formed food and "bubble" packaging that comes your way. Sooner or later you might find one with corners of just the radius you need. Cut your taillights from this plastic, then color it with either Model Master Clear Red Acryl or (I'm not kidding) a red Sharpie (on both sides). I made the missing right taillight for this glue bomb rescue Elky from a Walmart blueberry container (just folded the plastic) colored with red Sharpie. It actually fits and looks better than the kit part on the left.

Favorite Automotive Concept Artists?

Wow, the ultimate Switcher! (Well, almost. Still needs a removable hard top.) -

Those ARE nice! The orange one reminds me a little of Boosted GT's car on Street Outlaws. -
Grumpy's Toy IX 1972 Vega rebuild
Snake45 replied to magicmustang's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Great start! Paint that engine block black, as Grump always did. Also, that Cady sheet won't work for you. The Grumpy's Toy logos are sized only for GTV, the '68 Nova, and are much too big for any of the others. Spend the money and get the Slixx sheet, which has them the right size. I just came into possession of a resin grille that's repopped from the MPC '68 Camaro SS/RS. I doubt I'll ever use it, as I prefer the one from the AMT '67 annual. I'll check and see if it fits this MPC body. If it does, are you interested in it? -
I thought so, too. And quite a few Tamiya paints, which I don't think anyone else in the area has now.

Grumpy's Toy IX 1972 Vega rebuild
Snake45 replied to magicmustang's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
That's an interesting car. Started as a legal 396/375 SS/C in '68, then was run as a match racer and A/MP and even as a B/G, and then became one of the first true Pro Stocks, winning the first two big NHRA meets in 1970, the Winternationals and the Gatornationals. I have a "distressed" diecast of this car that needs a few pieces and some touchup. Maybe I'll get to that this winter. Would love to see yours! -
Very nice, very clean!

Very, VERY nice! Love the grocery bag in the back seat! Well done and model on!

There were some Candyapple Red GT350Hs. I think maybe even a few of them were "stripe deletes," carrying only the gold lower rocker stripes. If you still have those decals, you could put them on and still legitimately call it a GT350H.
-
See if you can find one that has the removable hard top. If you can come up with one that also has the optional panel wagon top, even better! Good luck with your search.

Grumpy's Toy IX 1972 Vega rebuild
Snake45 replied to magicmustang's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Great collection! You have some I want to do, including the Motown Missile Cuda as soon as I can figger out how to fix the MPC headlight buckets to something that looks more like a real Cuda's. I have a restorable glue bomb Fast Eddie Maverick and the Slixx decals to do it. It's missing the A-pillar on the left side but shouldn't be too hard to scratch up. I want to do several of the 1970 Pro Stocks, as well as some of their predecessors, the match racers of '68 and '69. I think I just added two Grumpy Vegas to my build list. -
"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Just a couple quick "proof of life" shots of my Monogram '66 Chevelle project. The entire (flip) front end has now been wet-sanded, and the right side of the body, but not yet the right side, top, or trunk. Paint is Testor Root Beer with Wet Look Clear. -
Great lookin' kid, and great lookin' hobby shop! How I wish I still had a good LHS. The nearest ones to me are about a 40 minute drive--each way.

My new one seems to be a slightly different shade of green--kinda like Testor Candy green. And it doesn't seem to match any factory color, but I like it anyway. Was researching my Snake-Fu work last night. Can't find much to do except color the rear side markers red, paint the backup lights white, and sand the tire treads.
