"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks like the perfect candidate. What is it, a '68 Hurst/Olds? You delaring it? I'll add you to the list. GITTER DONE! -
Anyone know what scale this kit is? It doesn't say on the box and I failed to find a scale listed on a web search. Saw one at Hobby Lobby today. Peeked in the box quickly and looks like it MIGHT be 1/24-25. Sure seemed bigger than 1/32. I'm gonna take some dimensions off my IMC and check the Airfix again next week.

1/25 Dyno Don Nicholson's Mercury Cyclone Eliminator II Funny Car
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Just today in the mail I got the book on the cars of Dyno Don. Lotsa good pics in there! Getting fired up about this! Ironically, to build an accurate model of Eliminator II, you wouldn't use ANYTHING from this kit except maybe parts of the engine. (I suppose you could alter the body, but it would probably be easier to just use one from the "new" '67 Cyclone kit.) -

Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Will be good to have you aboard. Just post a current pic of your project as it is now and announce you're in, and you're in! It's as simple as that. Deadline on this round is the last day of March--about 6 weeks away. -
"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Fabulous! You're the second one this round to GITTER DONE! Congratulations! You gonna rescue another one from the Shelf of Doom this time around? You've still got six more weeks! And BTW, I didn't start the Bring Out Your Dead Thread, I just had the idea to challenge those in it to GITTER DONE! I haven't worked on my '57 Vette in a couple weeks due to a tricky wheel problem that was hanging me up (and getting distracted with a couple other rebuild projects), but TODAY I got that wheel problem worked out so should be able to drive on from here and GITTER DONE! Just since we've turned a new page since the last update, here's where we are now: Straightliner59: Junior Fuel Dragster MAKING PROGRESS ON THOSE INJECTORS! I expect it will look something like this, except in sparkly green plastic instead of sparkly red plastic.

Revell 65 Chevelle - Butcher job
Snake45 replied to Wm David Green's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The grille can probably be made to fit in the Revell body. Couple years ago I test-fit the custom grille from the AMT '65 Elky or wagon into a Revell body and it was a nearly perfect fit. The AMT '65 bodies were descended from their '64s so it should follow that if you alter the fender tips to '64 shape, the '64 grille SHOULD fit, or be made to do so with minimal tweaking. -
Very clean, sharp build. Well done and model on!

Waterslide decals-cleaning after application
Snake45 replied to mitchy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you use decal setting solution, DO take the time to wash the model before clearcoating. Learned this lesson the hard way--had solution runs and drips turn brown on a few model airplanes after ten years or so. If it smells like vinegar, clean it off after the decals are dry! -
Got my Green Camaro today. Can hardly wait to start polishing up that lovely green plastic! I might use the decals too--they look pretty sharp and would set it apart from my polished silver and red ones.

Glue Bomb Projects--EMPI Imp and '65 Falcon AWB
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Much appreciated, but I think I'm good. About half the thickness of the rails at the front (of the interior tub), tapering to nothing at the rear (right before the rear wheelwells. On the interior tub, you can see bright light through the plastic at the front (so, maybe 2/3 of the thickness?) again tapering to full thickness at the rear. The filing only has to be done where the tub hits the frame rails and the crossmember. -
Today I emailed Bandit again and had a response within an hour. Placed an order for the parts I wanted. We'll see what happens. The site is odd. There's a listing of kits, but not of parts. But there are three parts shown on the home page, one of which was what I needed, so I ordered it. When you click on a part, you get the opportunity to see three other random parts. I went down every possible rabbit hole this way, seeing a dozen parts or so, and only found one other thing I could have used. I'd have ordered one of those, too, but there was no "Add to Cart" button on that part. Weird.

Revell 1969 Mustang Boss 302............My take with pics!
Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I was looking at some of those 1/32s on eBay the other night, could hardly believe what some of them are bringing, even many of the "common" Monogram ones. -
Very nice, very clean! One of the best I've seen. Well done and model on!
-
Nice kit if you can appreciate vintage '60s stuff. If you demand new-tool Revell quality, you'll be disappointed.

Very most way excellent! But it needs the Bullitt Mustang and General Lee and Milner's coupe to be complete. -
1/25 Dyno Don Nicholson's Mercury Cyclone Eliminator II Funny Car
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, last year I scored a restorable glue bomb original for the body, just need to fill the hole in the hood.... -

Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I MUST have one! Now, to just build it OOB as the inaccurate but nostalgic hot mess that it is? Or move the wheels back, fill the hole in the hood, get some Slixx decals, and put it on an MPC first-gen Logghe chassis and try to do a halfway decent job with it? I MUST have TWO! -
What he said. Very clean looking build!

Glue Bomb Projects--EMPI Imp and '65 Falcon AWB
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Forgot to mention, I was surprised to discover that the AWB Mustang frame is wider in the front than the Falcon frame. [Robin Leech voice] I don't know why!
