My three great interests in life are cars, guns, and airplanes. "Snake" covers all three areas: Shelby Cobra, Ford ('69) Cobra, Dodge Viper, Don Prudhomme, Eddie Schartman's Air Lift Rattler; Colt Python, Colt Diamondback, Colt King Cobra; Bell P-39 Airacobra, Bell P-63 King Cobra, Bell AH-1 Huey Cobra, F-16 Viper, VMF-323 "Death Rattlers" Corsair, and so forth. And of course I love the Simpsons character "Snake," the cultured/literate reprobate/outlaw. (Remind you of anyone? ) And John Carpenter movies. Oddly enough, real snakes kind of creep me out.

Revell Ed Roth 57 Bel Air - Suddenly It's 1963!
Snake45 replied to Karl LaFong's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for the kind words. I don't have facebook, sorry. One of these days I'm gonna have both the courage and the patience at the same time to reinstall the 210 trim. It looks about three times better with it, but MAN that stuff is fiddly. I'm thinking of doing a "Take Two" build of this--a brand new model of basically the same thing using my adult skills. I'll probably go with a dual leaf spring front suspension this time, rather than the suicide front axle. Probably slightly shorter traction bars. Am debating that metalflake gold interior, too--would probably go with black this time. Also undecided: Should I build it on the one good, straight original Revell body I have, or just do it on a "new" Del Ray? Testor Mythic Emerald for the paint (similiar to '69 Chevy Rally Green, but flakier), or classic Testor Jade Green metalflake (a bit darker)? The overall vibe will definitely be the same: T-bolt teardrop hood bulge, BB engine, Americans, slicks, high stance though maybe not quite this high. -
Hey administrators! Can we get a new topic!
Snake45 replied to Pete J.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sounds like a good idea! -
Another reason to get a unit with a tank. I can fill my tank in just a couple minutes, which gives me all the air I need for a silent airbrush session.
-
Interesting. I haven't yet been able to get mine to settle down so that the whole front end doesn't look "bent." Need to work with it some more, I guess. And then I need to get my roof bent up so it doesn't look caved in, very common with the body on this kit.
-
I vote NO. You want something with a tank, to avoid pulsing. For a few bucks more you can get a nice tanked Campbell-Hausfeld at Walmart.

Checked that one, too. The Maisto is narrower than the Monogram, very close to the Revell. But it's LONGER than the Revell, but not as long as the Monogram. Hmmmmm.

Maybe a section on Painting and Finishing. Or maybe a sticky in either Questions or Tips on airbrushes and compressors. -
I just this morning found my copy of this kit (had been missing for months) and I wanted to settle the question of whether it's 1/24 or 1/25. It's definitely longer than the Revell '67 in length, so it's 1/24 long. But it's pretty much exactly the same width, so it's 1/25 in width or darn close to it. Very interesting.

AMT 1963 Corvette Chassis Donor
Snake45 replied to jjsipes's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
'62 Corvette is a completely different chassis. Best chassis donor for C2 Corvettes is the Revell '67, either coupe or convertible. Both kits have big block engines which of course were not available till 1965. Second choice would probably be the MPC Corvettes, either C2 or C3 generations. The '67 and '75 are the easiest to find. These chassis are fiddly and have lots of molding flash. If you're really interested in accuracy, you'd want to lose the AMT '63 Corvette body and use the body from a Revell '63 snapper. The AMT body isn't horrible, it's just not accurate and the Revell snapper body is. -
Well, he's calling it "mild custom" which lets him off the hook.
-
Looking good so far, except it'll take some getting used to seeing a Chevy big block painted in "Ford Engine Blue." Did you have to do anything special to get the front end to fit to the body?

Happy Valentines Day for Car Modelers!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, maybe you can find some broccoli or tofu wrapped in red cello. -
Yes, it's relevant. Don't forget to buy your sweetie a box of chocolate wrapped in red cellophane. That stuff is wonderful for making custom taillight lenses, and this is about the only time of year you can find it so easily. (And CHEAP! It's basically free.) I used it to rework the taillights on this glue bomb rescue '65 GTO (with Micro Metal Foil Adhesive).

1968 Chevy Corvette 427 L/88 Convertible resto Update! 2/2/19
Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
He was at the toy show today, set up as usual. Looked fairly good, said he was in the hospital four days. He didn't have any appealing glue bombs for me this month. Did buy a reissued AMT '83 Z/28 NIB for $15, which is cheaper than I could get it even with coupon at Hobby Lobby. Don't really NEED it, but hated to walk away from him empty-handed, y'unnerstand.... -

Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
So are you saying you're in? If so, I'll put you on the list. -
That's good to know.
-
Very nice, very clean!
-
Yes. So if you're doing it stock, your lower body will be black. Any other color and it's "Day Two."
-
Same here. Sad day.
