IMHO, the Fireball is like the frozen tundra or the US State Department: Anything you could do to it would improve it.

That's pretty zippy looking!
-
I've had them do that to me before.
-
Looks great! You're making me want to build one.

Looking good! Drive on!

Really, really nice! Great collection! Model on!
-
Very nice, all of them! Nothing to apologize for here.

What else besides chrome markers?

They seem more like paint than ink to me. And yes they can take two or three coats to cover well. But it dries so fast, by the time you get to the end of a line, you can go right back and lay the second coat on--no waiting for drying. Oh, they DO get more "translucent" when they're running out. That's how you know it's time to bust a fresh one loose! -
Just took a look at it. Copyright 1979, so that was years AFTER the Red Baron came out. And it does have an engine, but I looked at the RB instruction sheet and I don't think they have much if anything in common. Good theory, though.

Pretty sweet!

Well I have one in the stash, from the initial Monogram reissue of the late '70s or early '80s. I'll try to check this evening to see if it even has an engine (don't think so), and what the date was on it. IIRC Red Baron came out in the late '60s or very early '70s, while Aurora was still very much alive.

What non-auto model did you get today?

I too love the SEA camo scheme but it's such a PITA to do; I just don't have the patience, so I tend to gravitate toward pre-1966 VN war builds. My friend Roger Jackson did a hella buildup of the Monogram kit a few years ago. There's been some debate about the shape of the Monogram nose (personally, I don't see it) and Roger addressed that with some effort: http://modelingmadness.com/review/viet/jackson105.htm -
Fabulous! I've been on a bit of an early Corvette kick myself lately and you're making me want to throw the AMT '59 I'm working on against the wall.

Hmmmmm. I can't think of any 1/48 aircraft kits from Monogram that might have had this engine when the Red Baron appeared. They eventually had a 1/48 Fokker D7 (ex-Aurora), but that was late '70s and I don't think it had much if any of an engine.

Model Master Euro 1 gray is flat. I suspect that Tamiya Gunship Gray is, too. Gunship Gray is lighter than Euro 1 Gray. Have you checked out what's available in Krylon, Rustoleum, etc? Here's Krylon's rattlecan grays: http://www.krylon.com/spray-paint-color-center/colors/gray-spray-paint/ If you're airbrushing, of course you can mix up whatever shade of gray you want out of gloss black and gloss white.

Cool! I built the G Wild Weasel when it first came out in the early '80s. Have two or three Ds in the stash but have never built one. I want to do one in early Vietnam overall silver paint, loaded up with M117s. Meanwhile, I bought the old Lindberg 1/64 B-17 at Hobby Lobby. I've wanted to build this kit since I was a kid and it was the only "big" B-17 available, but I've never owned one till now. Maybe I'll build it and the old 1/64 Revell B-25 at the same time. I'm pretty sure I have a couple more oddball 1/64-1/65 airplanes in the stash, too. -
Yeah, you could put a drop of flat white in Dullcoat (since there's no shine on the thing anyway) and lighten it up quite a bit.

'67-'68 style RS grille on a '69 body--looks pretty good, doesn't it? Did you see the model I built with that very combination? It looks a bit like your green one.
-
Spencer, you got that roof and window frames about as good as I've ever seen them done on this kit. But when we first started talking about this project, I was pretty confident that you'd do it up right.
-
I believe it is descended from the diecast. I built the diecast kit and was quite pleased with how it turned out.
-
Very nice! I like yours a LOT more than the famous one on the album cover.

Wow, VERY sharp looking!
