  1. I think it was AMT lacquer. It polished out pretty nicely, whatever it was. Couple pics in the BOYD thread.
  2. Sweet haul! Couple of those look really fun. Enjoy them!
  3. I was born in '54. I'm not interested in any 1954 car. But the '55s were introduced in the fall. Would a '55 qualify?
  4. Dunno about you, but just the other day I finished up a build ('69 Ford Galaxie) I started 52 years ago.
  5. It was new in late 1964, which is closer to 60 years ago.
  6. Ewetwo and Geno, if you got this kit together, I now have major new RESPECT for both of you. I started mine this morning, expecting a quick, easy, fun project that would take a morning, maybe two. It took me two gorram hours just to get the front suspension and basic engine block in. It's now all back in the box awaiting my next fit of enthusiasm. The instructions are unclear, especially on which of the 4 or 5 different size screws go where. And the parts are hard to locate. For a while I was convinced I was missing at least one whole sprue. Finally gave up when I couldn't find the front part of the radiator. I'm sure it's here somewhere, but I got tired of looking for it and everything else.
  7. Sorry to hear of you loss, Mike. May God be with you and your family.
  8. Just finished it. Very interesting and engaging, and kind of timely, too. I liked it. I'll say this for Robert Morse: He sure is trying live down his Saint Elsewhere goody-two-shoes image. I don't think I've seen him play anything but an Evil Villain ever since. On to The Hunt, which they also just got and which I've been wanting to see for a while. And then that Sopranos prequel thing.
  9. Will do! I did see it years ago when it was first on cable, and have a vaguely favorable impression of it. But as we've seen, my opinion sometimes changes over the years.
  10. Quick question: Is "curbside" acceptable for this build, or is a full engine required? Finding a suitable engine for Stupidbird is proving more difficult than I thought. I'll find and install an engine if required, but I could drag the thing across the finish line without much further drama if curbside is acceptable.
  11. I doubt it's gonna be that kit. The ex-Mako Shark makes more sense. I have one of those backbirth original '68 glue bombs that I'm gonna do as a VW or Corvair-powered kit car/dune buggy "Poorvette."
  12. Congratulations, Tim, you GOTTER DONE and the pics posted with hours to spare! And quite a nice model it is, too! Well done and model on!
  13. Local toy show day. My favorite glue bomb vendor didn't have much new today, but I did get a couple things. *Dirty but 100% complete 1/25 diecast '57 Chevy 2-door wagon ("West Coast Choppers"), $10. This is only the second one of these I've ever seen. Don't like the color (light blue with purple top), but I can repaint it. Will also have to replace the lowrider wheels/tires and get it up off the ground. ETA: WOW! Here's one on eBay new in the box someone thinks is worth $180! I think I done good! https://www.ebay.com/p/1924465675 *VERY cleanly built JoHan '64 Dodge street cruiser, with two hoods, scooped and unscooped, $25. I probably won't do much if anything to this one; the builder's at least as good as I am and he did a nice job with it; I'll be proud to have it on my shelf. Can't believe he'd sell such a nice model, and a semi-rare one too, so cheap. The big rear tires are sticking out in comical '70s style--I might see if I can get them located a bit more inboard. *Distressed Welly '71 Chevelle convertible diecast, slightly smaller than 1/25. Red with red/white interior (I already have a silver and black one). Part of the upper grille and the left corner of the front bumper are broken off and gone, so I'll have to fabricate these. I like to take on a challenge from time to time. Paid a grand total of $3 for it (wouldn't have paid a penny more).
  14. They don't even need to do that. Just "un-alter" the rear wheel openings. It'll go on the '66 chassis, but takes some work in the firewall and rear wheelhouse areas. The '66 interior even comes darn close to fitting perfectly, although it's not of course anywhere near correct.
  15. Thanks! They must have just added it, as I searched for it not long ago and didn't find it. But we've started a new month since then, I guess. Thanks again!
  16. I think Tim is onto something here. I'm gonna give that a try. The AMT '67-'68 Camaro body has a very similar problem, and filing away the incorrect window sill trim molding completely changes the look of that model. Meanwhile, I've been studying the difference between the '65 and pre-'65 2DS roofs. (Why Chevy made this change is a mystery. Do away with the curved backlight and go to a cheaper, flatter unit, maybe?) It looks to me like the backlight area can be opened up to achieve the '62-'64 roof shape. Filling the new area with glass might pose a problem, but here's some minor good news: On the George Klass site, I found quite a few pics of '62-'64 Nova 2DS racers in the FX section running without any backlight at all installed! http://www.georgeklass.net/uploads/3/4/5/1/34518983/09_229_orig.jpg http://www.georgeklass.net/uploads/3/4/5/1/34518983/09_231_orig.jpg http://www.georgeklass.net/uploads/3/4/5/1/34518983/published/9194069.jpg?1516472423 http://www.georgeklass.net/uploads/3/4/5/1/34518983/09_236_orig.jpg http://www.georgeklass.net/uploads/3/4/5/1/34518983/09_239_orig.jpg http://www.georgeklass.net/uploads/3/4/5/1/34518983/published/9185201.jpg?1516471620
  17. Kinda doubt it. That backbirth has never been reissued. My best guess would be the old MPC Mako Shark, or whatever's left of it. Calling it a "'68 Custom Corvette" says to me that they didn't bother to backdate the molds to original Mako Shark II standards, which would have been very cool.
  18. Where did you find 12 Monkeys? Did you find it on streaming?
  19. Somehow, I knew you would.
  20. So you won't buy one. We get it. We all got it DAYS ago. Good. More for the rest of us.
  21. Remembered one more thing I collect: Black diecast Chevies in 1/24-1/25. Didn't start out to collect them, but one day I realized I had quite a few, and have been picking up new ones when I see them. So far I have: '55 150 2DS '57 210 HT '57 Corvette '62 Impala '63 Corvette coupe '64 Nova '65 Chevelle (stock) '65 Chevelle (pro street) '65 El Camino '67 Corvette roadster '67 Impala 4DHT (Supernatural) '67 Chevelle '68 Chevelle '69 Camaro
  22. 1. Thanks to Tim for one of the best, most detailed reviews I've ever seen of ANY kit. 2. I'll be buying at least two of these (and two of the stockers). If it turns out I can't live with the roof shape, I'll do something with them, perhaps kitbash the body somehow with the AMT AWB HT kit, which I have several of on hand. I'm still wondering why Moebius decided to kit the one-year-only '65 2DS roof instead of the far more common '62-'64 roof, but it is what it is. I'm gonna be taking a VERY close look at seeing if that '65 roof can be opened up to pass as the earlier type. I'm thinking the backlight might be a problem, as it looks like it might be a compound curve, which would mean carving a vac master. Ouch. (But to paraphrase a Montrose lyric, "If it can be done, I can do it." ) 3. Just for grins, last night I went on the great George Klass site and looked for First-Gen Chevy IIs. Now the GK site doesn't have EVERY drag car that ran in the '60s, but he's got a hella lot of them, and I believe that the site gives you a darn good idea of what was running on the strips 50-60 years ago, the good, the bad, and the ugly. In the Gasser section, I only saw two pre-'66 Novas. Neither was a '65 2DS (one was a HT). There were also two pre-'64 Ford Falcons, and one of them had an obvious chop (I've seen that car before in a mag article). Late-model (i.e., '60s) cars were not the mainstay of the Gasser class, earlier stuff was--up until Ohio George changed the game with his Mustang, but that's another story. Things were different in the FX section. Dozens and dozens of '62-'65 Chevy IIs and Novas, but out of all of them, I only saw two '65 2DSs. There were literally more 4-doors and cars with that goofy add-on fastback roof than '65 2DSs. Might have even been more station wagons (there was at least one). The majority of the Novas were either hardtops, or the '62-'64 2Ds. (I didn't notice any that were chopped.) AFAIK there were no "famous" FX '65 2DS, so it's not like you'll be building an "inaccurate" model of the Doug Thorley or Steve Bovan, etc., cars. Those were something different. Do with that information what you will. I'll be buying at least two of these kits and doing SOMETHING with them. If someone tells me one looks chopped, I'll say, "Yah, it's chopped, so what? It's still hella cool." Model on, everyone!
  23. Why? I have two of the '90s issues, which also include the bike. Anything new in this issue I need?
  24. Sweet rebuild! Well done and model on!
