Show us your summer toys! (Non-auto related)
Snake45 replied to atomicholiday's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Wanna race? And BTW, thanks for calling yours a go-kart. Completely changed my whole attitude about mowing. Heck, now I'm even almost in the mood to wash this once-hated "yard appliance" and maybe even shine it up a little! -
Did it look like this? The color is actually called Silver Jade, IIRC. There were so many of these running around my town back in the day that years before I learned the real color name, I called it Grande Green.

So true. At my 50th reunion last year, I told my friends, "We got to live through the best time EVER! We got to see leaded-gas Pontiac GTOs AND free internet porn!"

That's a VERY rare kit. If you'd rather trade it than try to get it back together, consider me first in line, old friend.

Will be interesting to see if they restore the original unchopped top, or just reissue the same chopped top like the last few reissues.

I think you're onto something. I googled it and came up with this--There's the B-52! Interesting that the three "Executive Planes" on the left side of this set ended up as Aurora stand-alone kits, and are VERY highly sought today. (I have what's left of an Aurora Cessna 310.) https://www.ebay.com/itm/325630193236?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=325630193236&targetid=1530439033171&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9008037&poi=&campaignid=19851828444&mkgroupid=145880009014&rlsatarget=pla-1530439033171&abcId=9307249&merchantid=8381464&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIssHUyN6s_wIV5fTICh0aXwYsEAQYByABEgLJSPD_BwE

Probably didn't have any connotations in those days. That was LONG before CB radio....

I was thinking along those lines, too. Back in those days, there was an off-brand model company whose stuff I would only see around Christmastime in various odd stores. I do remember one of their deals was a set of four bombers, or something, but I don't remember what they were. But in the first pic of this thread, I thought Beav was holding a small-scale B-29. Very possible that these could be two models from that off-brand set.

He was a really special guy period. He will be remembered and missed.

Wow, fantastic shot! Definitely Aurora XF-90 in Dad's hands. Looks like Wally's got an F-94C, but not sure of what kit. It looks a little small to be the Revell. Hmmmm.... Not sure yet what Beaver's got going on.... I do recognize ancient Testor and Pactra paint bottles, though--no doubt marked 10c. (I still have a few.) Good times!

My God! Keyser was one of my closest friends on this board. He was of great help to me after my stroke last year, and of great comfort to me when my infant grandson passed suddenly and unexpectedly last August. I am saddened and ashamed that I hadn't corresponded with him in a while. Here's what he wrote me last year after little Grant died. I'm sure Lee wouldn't mind me sharing it here as a remembrance of and in honor of him: Snake, I would tell families (and myself) that no matter if we live a day, week, 5mos, or 100yrs, that’s a lifetime. If we are happy, loved, and comfortable, that is all any of us need. That baby had a full lifetime. Not long enough for us, but he never knew otherwise. SIDS is a problem we’ve not figured out. I was a kid’s chest/icu doctor, so I’ve lost some over years. I get it. I’m sorry. Have your daughter see counselor soon. Grief sucks. But nothing anyone could have done, so no one’s fault. Remember him as he was. So sorry. .... I’m sorry y’all enduring this. You got this. All will make it thru. You never know how strong you are until you have no other choice. My prayers don’t work, but my hopes do. You got this. Be better. Rip little guy. Life well loved. Lee Lee Kirchner MD

Had to order the new AMT '65 GTO from DMW, and as I did so, noticed they were now offering the nice Maisto '65 El Camino in red, so ordered one. Got it today. It is absolutely gorgeous! Will probably be my next Snake-Fu project. I already did a blue one so I know it's a pretty quick and easy job. Just have to decide if I want to replace the stock tires and wheel covers with something cooler--it would be worth the extra effort if I do.

Hmmmmm.....This thread is about women named June. I was able to make a very tenuous June connection to Audrey, but on the other two, I got nothin'.....

Probably you'll get another point for bringing it up, and I'll get one for giving you a Ha-Ha on it.

I didn't have to google it. I have the unbuilt kit in the Snakepit. Bought it at a hobby shop in San Antonio in summer of 1972. It was a VERY VERY RARE kit even then, and I could NOT believe it was sitting on the shelf with a $1.00 price tag on it. It's one of my All-Time Great Model scores.

If I'm not mistaken, that's an extremely rare model airplane--the Aurora Lockheed XF-90.

That one reminds me of an old joke; I think it might have been a David Letterman "Little Known Laws" thing, maybe: "According to a little known federal law, every James Brown song must include a brief statement of how James feels."

Yesterday on another board, someone posted a Bruce McCall-esque painting in which a familiar looking car appears in the background. Took me a few seconds to recognize what it is--it's George Barris's Californian custom Toronado. I commented "I bet I'm the only guy on this board who knows what the car in the background is." The guessing began. Didn't take too long for a couple guys to come up with the Barris name, but not the Californian. Had two guesses of some customs he did called the Esso 67-X and Esso 70-X. I'd never heard of these so I looked them up. They're Toronados and they're similar in many ways but not the Californian. So then I tried to google the Californian itself, and could find no reference to it, either in text or pictures, aside from the recently reissued MPC kit. So the question is, was the Californian a real car (most likely, a rework of one of the Esso cars), or ONLY an MPC model design? I'd have posted the painting itself but there's a firearm in it and I have no desire to violate forum "policy" on this. It's not controversial or political at all, or shouldn't be. If a Mod tells me publicly that it's okay to post the pic, I'll be happy to do so.
