  1. You can get into trouble with that method. You can use a worn out toothbrush and gently scrub the panel lines under cold running water. The residue will come off easily.
  2. Nice bit of territory you and the gang had.
  3. Artistic license. Just like the stuff pictured in the Johnson Smith ads inside the front cover of the same comic this was in.
  4. It all comes down to supply and demand.
  5. Gumby made the ultimate sacrifice for the advancement of hijinks and fun. A true hero.
  6. The use of "131", the only operational Tiger tank in the world, marked the first time that a working tank of this type was used in a movie since some surviving Tigers were used in the 1950 British film, "THEY WERE NOT DIVIDED". This movie features a number of captured German equipment. Can't get more authentic than that.
  7. Black and Gaugin Red are my favorite colors for this car. You nailed the black down perfectly.
  8. Great looking, Johnny. Love them two-tone Tri-Fives.
  9. Speaking of Gumby.....................
  10. Who'da thunk you was a Noo Yawka, Rob? We used to hit all the clubs like OBI, Rum Bottoms, Hammerheads, Speaks and My Father's Place in the late '70s.
  11. Audie Murphy was a legend. But, Pool's amazing exploits took place in a period of less than three months. German Aces such as Kurt Knipsel, Michael Wittmann and Otto Carius never achieved such a record of success over a similar period of time. War Daddy was the Joe DiMaggio of tankers.
  12. There's always someone waiting in the wings to take his place. A guy parting out a Johan '61 Fury, for example. Total for the body, glass, chassis, wheels, tires and bumpers............$305, give or take two to three bucks. The sum of the parts is always more than the whole.
  13. I found something called GS27 Titanium Scratch Remover at R&S Strauss Auto Parts before the chain closed. It'll remove scratches but is gentle enough not to damage raised details like scripts.
  14. Tape a piece of plastic bag over the stripes and use Testors Easy-Lift-Off applied with a Q-Tip. That Purple Pond business is for the birds. You'll have the paint off in about twenty minutes. Scrub the stripped areas with a toothbrush and Comet/Ajax and it'll be good to go. I stripped a built '62 Dodge Dart which was painted a hideous shade of metallic pink and the body is once again a sparkling, clean creamy white.
  15. Since I've never had this kit, it'll be new to me.
  16. As I pilfered those images from Worthpoint, I couldn't tell you. Check the Drastic Plastic instruction link in my original post.
  17. Check the link which explains skelzies. It was a fun game. We did the same thing with cards on the fork. We also used those long thin balloons, partially blown up. The balloon was squeezed so that the inflated part was in the middle of the two ends and the ends were tied to the fork with the balloon on the rear of the fork. When you started moving, the balloon would be pulled forward, and rubbed against, the spokes. It sounded like a minibike.
  18. Everyone who has seen the film, "Fury" is familiar with Brad Pitt's character, tank commander SSgt. Don "Wardaddy" Collier. Most don't know that this character was based on SSgt. Lafayette G. Pool, nicknamed "War Daddy" by his crew. In just 81 days of combat, from 27 June to 15 September 1944, War Daddy and his crew destroyed 12 Panther tanks, destroyed 258 armored vehicles and guns, killed nearly 1000 enemy soldiers and captured 250. As the author of the linked article Michael Bennighof, Ph.D., wrote: "It's a record unequaled in World War II and unlikely ever to be matched." The Real War Daddy Armor, The Combat Arm of Decision
  19. Manual transmissions in cars driven in a congested urban environment are as useful as lightbulbs with left-handed threads. They're simply not practical. I like driving stick; but, with the traffic conditions here in NYC, I'd be wearing the clutch out every six months.
  20. I was the same way when it came to turning in weapons into my arms rooms. If I didn't think it was clean, it wasn't. Get off the line and clean it again.
  21. It's great to see people who still enjoy the music from their younger days. I'm amazed at how many people in their late sixties to seventies turn into their parents and stop listening to music that they grew up with. Older people I know from the neighborhood are like that. I knew that they were hardcore rock 'n rollers/hippies from when I was a kid. Now, they think listening to Paul Anka, Wayne Newton or, UGH, "lite" music are the way to go. Must've been a residual effect from all that microdot acid they dropped. When I get my ticket punched, "Blitzkrieg Bop" will be played at my wake.
  22. Ron Andrews, owner of RMR Resin, acquired all of the R&R masters last December. According to what was posted in FB, he plans to recast most of, if not the entire, line. Getting molds isn't a good move unless one has the masters. Molds are good for so many pulls before they begin to deteriorate.
