Revell web site back on
SfanGoch replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah......Okay.......Right. I have the Revell page bookmarked, too. Guess what? It now redirects to Revell.de. No Revell.com....just Revell.de. 'Splain that MR. IT. Mebbe it's because that Revell in Bunde is in nominal control of all Revell-related matters until everything is sorted out and a bona fide U.S.-based operation is established so there is no point in having a U.S. page at this time. There's a generally recognized, commonly used term for it; but, using it can lead to getting frogmarched out the cyber-doorway. -

"Workable" molds are irrelevant since they wear out after "X" number of pulls. New molds are made using master patterns. -
Interesting, the few Cobra kits from US manufactures

Separated at birth?

Pour a small amount of bleach into a container and drop the chrome parts in. Use a toothbrush or Q-Tip to speed up the process. The plating will disappear in a few minutes and won't damage even resin. Once it's gone. rinse the parts in water.

I'm one of those gripers. I have no problem shelling out mazooma for a super detailed car kit with loads o' parts a la armor kits. However, I ain't dumping 200 bucks on what amounts to an unassembled promo, no matter how rare it is. I might like to own one; but, not at that kind of price.

In one of the modeling mags from the late '80s - early '90s, there was a listing in the new kit section. It was for a 1/43 Daytona Coupe kit from a Japanese manufacturer. This wasn't your average resin model. As a matter of fact, it was made out of brass. The whole model. Brass chassis, drivetrain, suspension, the works. Oh, the body panels were formed from almost paper-thin brass, too. You had to assemble this yourself by brazing or soldering the parts and everything you could possibly imagine was functional. What really made this kit stick in my mind was the price...............$1699. I've been trying to find more info on this for years. -

Checked the Shelby Store and this is available for $59.95. Lots of other nice 1/18 diecasts listed, all of which are superbly detailed. -

It's a 1/18 scale model by Michel Stassart. More info here. It looks like a 1/18 Shelby Collect diecast, which is really detailed and goes for 67 bucks. -
Walmart Prices ?
SfanGoch replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is a photo of Mary louise Cecilia Guinan, famously known as "Texas". She was the Queen of the Speakeasies during Prohibition. Her famous catchphrase was, "Hello, Sucker! Come on in and leave your wallet on the bar." I believe she is the patron saint of online sellers. -

Whoever thought that the Low Rider Big Slicks version was a good idea should have been broken on a big wheel. -
Nope. Same result attempting to respond as with trying to send one to you.
-
Numbers to corroborate that would be appreciated. Also, as mentioned in another Revell thread in General, model cars weren't the only line kits Revell produces(d). Round2 doesn't need Walmart to ensure sales of its Star Trek franchise are going through the roof, either.
-
Hobbico's less than intelligent business practices were the causes for Revell's recent difficulties, not because Walmart stopped selling models. It hasn't been an issue for Round2 or any other kit manufacturer. Didn't make any difference to me if they did or didn't sell models. I never shop in a place that sells car tires, swimming pool chemicals and groceries from the same location anyway.

Steve, I attempted to PM you but keep getting a "404" error.

There are quirks in modern day models. This is a nice kit, considering its age. It builds into a pretty decent representation of the car.
-
Buyer's remorse. I see a whole lot of them Custom Catilack Cornvertables, Corynets an' Impalers on the block for low prices also. Very few F100's which means there were more satisfied owners of that particular kit.
-
You're both correct. It isn't the Dart. The Dart is molded in Gold Metalflake*. I didn't feel like taking pics at dark o'clock in the morning. Besides, those Dodge and Plymouth models all look the same. *Trademark of the Dow Chemical Company

That's a beaut, Dennis! Who produces(d) the kit?
-
Considering that the first Eldorado wasn't produced until the '53 MY, that'd be a tough order to fill. Hmmmmm........same could be said about debating about and critiquing kits that are eligible for AARP membership. Let's be honest, Kit News and Reviews is a veritable elephant graveyard of discussion about models that have died and have been resurrected than Universal Monsters in film. As far as Foose, his designs have that effect on people. You either love them or hate them, with no middle ground. Neither side is short of comments stating their positions.

See this? This is the most sophisticated and widespread surveillance and security system known to man. They are known as MOMS. MOMS would sit in the windows and watch EVERYTHING that went on on the neighborhood. You thought you got away with breaking a window six blocks away while playing stickball with your friends. Boy, were you ever wrong. Your MOM already knew about it before you stepped foot through the door. MOMS were the sheriffs who maintained order and peace on the block. Every MOM was your MOM by mutual agreement that all MOMS were party to. So, if you got out of line, any MOM could box your ears and you'd get more of the same when you finally made it home just because you got the business from some other MOM.
