This has been stalled for a number of years now. The reason it stalled was the wood I used to skin it warped when the paint went on (and it looked awful in green and silver) The hull is the hot rod hydro kit from revell with a tamiya jag body cut to fit and the sides raised to suit the swoopy body. I used the hydro engine originally but now I'm thinking to use the jag engine instead as it probably fits the theme better than the hemi. I think moving forward I'll strip the wood from the hull sides and get some araldite 2 part glue so it has more chance of holding it on. The wood used is just coffee stirrers and I'll use them again since I bought way too many of them by mistake (wassure it said packs of 100 so I bought 10, them 10,000 of them arrived, lol) This time I'm thinking to do it in pearl white with possibly some carbon details such as the vents. I already stole the jag interior from this for something else but I've got an audi r8 roadster interior sitting doing nothing that I'm sure is wide enough to fit with a few small mods. I'll have to scratch some sort of panel with a door for the cabin area and since theres a lot of space at the back I might give the turbos an upgrade just to help fill it a bit. Theres a couple of projects ahead of this but this is officially back on the bench this year. The pics in green are how it sits just now but its a case of taking a few steps back before any progress can be made

"Holy Grail" Models?
stitchdup replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My grails at the moment are 2 scale production trans kits that have been long out of production. One is the mk4 golf r32 and the other is the t1 crew cab -

a manta sport 400, you lucky man. these were rare right from the start and very few were silver, most were white. One of my friends has a project one and the price of parts is just stupid

I just tried to go on the site mentioned and its not coming up, might be worth trying to get your money back somehow. Did you use paypal?
-
hopefully back on it next week mate, waiting on some plastic to come up from manchester but who knows how long that'll take at the moment

very cool, never seen the leopard kit before

Built pretty much outta the box using the amt kit with the orange car on the box. Nothing on it wanted to fit together so after a year in my way I threw it together and slimed and dirtied it. The only change from box stock is the front tyres as the kt ones looked like they should be on a 4x4. The rear tyres were the same but some sandpaper fixed that to make them a bit nicer. I tried to give the front the look of old fibreglass by rubbing plastic dust into the paint while it was still sticky
-
I didn't even think of that. Its too late now anyway. I used the stock parts from the chopped 48 kit to put it back more stock. I also made another small change to the bottom wood bars by swapping them for square strip instead of the round which I would have done when i first worked on it if I had sqare to use
-
I think I agree with you on the grille Tom, so I guess there will be one mod needed. It shouldn't be too hard to change for the stock one maybe

Since I cant do anything on my cannonball build until more styrene turns up I pulled this build out again. Its been back in a box for 4 years as the roof pillars broke when I was assembling it. I didn't remember fixing them but I guess I did at some point. It has all the running gear from a 90s mustang cobra. As well as the fade awy fenders it has also been chopped, sectioned and to save cutting the roof I pulled the rear forward at the top. The interior is tuck n roll and the wheels are from a hasegawa vw bus with ford caps but they may get changed for wide whites and ford steels. The plan with this is just to get it finished. The first 2 pics are how it currently sits with a few random build pics following. heres afew build pics too some of the areas that caused it to get put in the box again

Cool project, the t-bird looks right at home on it. Funnily enough I have a similar project using a jag xj220 and a hemi hydro but its stalled just now

I'm keen to know what the differences are between this version and the 2 previous. It looks to have a jetta rear bumper on the front and if it does I'll have to get one

Making acrylic paint act more like a wash?
stitchdup replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would try screen wash -
I've hit a small problem with my progress on the cage. I was well on with one side only to run out of the rod. I was certain I had another pack of it but when i pulled it out it was a smaller diameter so I've ordered a load more and hopefully it doesn't take long to arrive. This is as far as I got today

you can switch between brands using the drop box at the bottom of the laft side http://www.creativemodels.co.uk/paint_conversion.php?manufacturers_id=12&oscsid=d4q4hkujqh9khbut1iombclk05

1/24 Heller Renault Estafette
stitchdup replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I might have to get one of these, just because the box art is kinda cool. I'd probably just slam it and give it a light weathering but otherwise stock -
Today I made a few mods to the dash so i can get working on improving the cage. There were some switches but they had a lot of flash and a sinkmark in the middle, so to rectify this i filed the entire panel flat and used some rod and tubeto add them back. I've left them long until the glue sets and will be cutting them down. I also had the problem of no decals for the gagues so I've cut down a sun visor tv to fit and will be using any decals I find in the leftovers box. The modded sun visor is in both pics. I will also be adding one to the passenger side with other decals. Next I looked at the rear suspension and while basic it will do the job, however I made a connecting rod and found some better shocks (currently in paint). There was a big open hole above the axle so it is going to be a massive fuel tank For the frone suspension I had to make some heavy cuts to make the engine sit low enough Next I turned to cooling cos a turbo this size will get hot. I'm using a hobby design intercooler and the rad from an alfa. To get the intercooler and rad to fit with a little room for moving parts I had to make a drastic cut to the front panel. Hopefully I will be able to hide it somewhat with the mesh
