looking at the pics of the foton it appears to have chevy/gmc copy front fender shape -
The reason I was told the mk2 cab didn't get made was they were considering the corrado for the cab since it was built in the same karmann factory as the mk1

The small british sports cars are very popular in japan. They spend a lot more on them and still actively race them. The bigger ones like the heallys you got in the states just dont seem to have the same following

Nissan Skyline/GT-R kit advice
stitchdup replied to dbostream's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
One of either hasegawa or fujimi's r32 will be in two versions soon, there is a thread about a new tool version coming out somewhere on the site. The aoshima r35 is available as a liberty walk body kit curbside as well as stock versions and there are also some race versions. The r33 i believe is only available from tamiya (i'm probably wrong on that but its the only r33 I've seen. I think the tamiya r35 could be described as curbside plus since it has and engine plate rather than a full engine but there is an aftermarket engine available from hobby design. I think fujimi also do a 4 door r34 and a stagea (basicly a skyline wagon). If you're not worried about having full detail I dont think you can go wrong with any of these 3 manufacturers but if it was me I'd go tamiya first choice. A look on 1999.co.jp or hlj.com will let you see what the kits include as well as the instructions as some japanese kits have very poor interiors as I'm sure you know already. There are also kits of the skyline exuctive cars (think mercedes type cars) and the classics available from the first gtr in the early 70's til now, and a fujimi kit of an earlier one. -
I like your stock car idea. The steels probably fit the theme better than the spokes

I will gift them to you. send me your address in a message and i will get them posted at the start of next week

I did this one with 14 wheels but I used the tyres from another kit (revell ford escort rally car). If you need a set of smaller tyres I am happy to send you a set that will fit 14-16 wheels that will fit the golf.
-
aoshima and fujim both have tyres. you might have to use the 14 inch versions to fit the golf as they are quite big tyres
-
With the aoshima and fujimi wheels you will need to alter the mount on the wheel or they will stick out a lot. Its easy to alter them though, and all you need is a pencil/stick and some sandpaper. Cut a small disc of the sandpaper and glue or double sided tape it to the end of the pencil then use it to reduce the mounting ring inside the wheels. If you reduce it so the centre is flat the wheels will fit in the arches better. Keep doing test fits during the process too, some wheels need less removed

There are lots of sources for aftermarket wheels. I wouldn't go above 17 inch wheels but 16 are more common on mk1 golfs. uscp and scale production do a lot of wheels that are commonly used on golfs. Theres also hobby design, aoshima, eightyone, and a lot others. Then there's also shapeways for 3d printed wheels. Since its your first kit I would look at the resin wheels as they mostly have 2 options for fitting included and can be painted to suit. scaleproduction.de uscp-ua.com eightyone81.com http://www.hobbydesign.com.cn/ also uscp have an ebay page that has different stock from the website. Make sure when you buy the wheels that its a set with tyres included as the ones in the kit probably wont fit. Also if you are using the 16 inch or larger size wheels you will need low profile or stance type tyres.

Are you building it to look like the box art? theres a handy paint conversion guide for model paints on this site. this is the tamiya section but it covers other brands too http://www.creativemodels.co.uk/paint_conversion.php?manufacturers_id=12&oscsid=0fehfhtc7quacms9ubr2ggfbg6

I'm going to go for the esci mk2 escort track car. I've got a stock interior that might be used. I'll be using a bagged kit since it has no decals. It's probably going to be the lowest powered engine in the run but the payoff will be having to stop less than the other competitors. I've got a tamiya lotus 7 on the way to steal the wheels from
