  1. There are lots of sources for aftermarket wheels. I wouldn't go above 17 inch wheels but 16 are more common on mk1 golfs. uscp and scale production do a lot of wheels that are commonly used on golfs. Theres also hobby design, aoshima, eightyone, and a lot others. Then there's also shapeways for 3d printed wheels. Since its your first kit I would look at the resin wheels as they mostly have 2 options for fitting included and can be painted to suit. scaleproduction.de uscp-ua.com eightyone81.com http://www.hobbydesign.com.cn/ also uscp have an ebay page that has different stock from the website. Make sure when you buy the wheels that its a set with tyres included as the ones in the kit probably wont fit. Also if you are using the 16 inch or larger size wheels you will need low profile or stance type tyres.
  2. How to not get a job, 101
  3. Are you building it to look like the box art? theres a handy paint conversion guide for model paints on this site. this is the tamiya section but it covers other brands too http://www.creativemodels.co.uk/paint_conversion.php?manufacturers_id=12&oscsid=0fehfhtc7quacms9ubr2ggfbg6
  4. I'm going to go for the esci mk2 escort track car. I've got a stock interior that might be used. I'll be using a bagged kit since it has no decals. It's probably going to be the lowest powered engine in the run but the payoff will be having to stop less than the other competitors. I've got a tamiya lotus 7 on the way to steal the wheels from
  5. try jimmy flintstone, i'm sure i saw them there
  6. I keep my milk bottle tops for super glue and mixing small quantities of paint.
  7. Finally some good news from 2020
  8. DON'T GIVE 2020 ANY MORE IDEAS sorry for shouting, I feel very strongly about ths
  9. Air-trax have a cortina in their list of resin kits. Theres also a seller on ebay that occaisonally has a rsin mk1 cortina but its not worth having. It doesn't look too bad in the pic but the roof and hood are both sunken and dont really have the right shape. Thats not even mentioning the amount of bubbles in the resin or the lack ofbody lines. I'll probably give it a shot after the moggy minor build problems have been forgotten
  10. Ok so this thread is a little different than the usual thread. The challenge here is not to find a vehicle in your usual style that you find cool, but to find one in a style you dont like/not a fan off but the example you show is one you do like. Maybe its got some details you find cool, maybe its just the engine looks nice. You dont have to like the entire vehicle, just have something about it that makes you think thats not actually that bad. I'll start with my own type of vehicle I'm not into which is modern supercars but I do like the new lamborghini sian roadster has something that makes me kinda like it, but i'm not sure what Ok folks, now its your turn to find one vehcle in a style you dont generally like that you do like. Please no criticism of people choices or styles, this thread is about finding something you like. Lets end the year on a postive note and keep it fun. Who knows, it may open your eyes to things that could be used on other styles or inspire a build idea in someone else
  11. First we have a vandalised golf cab. This is the mitsuawa kit and its terrible Next we have the polar lights, harley quinn but done rat style Then was a C1 resin trans kit to convert the tamiya porsche into a flat nose. It on uscp wheels and really needs either bigger tyres or more lows Then came a pre painted amt camaro at the start of lockdown I followed this with a hebmuller conversion kit from bestmodelcarparts and got third in the cactus modellers online comp (vw group) I followed this with bright pink datsun cedric lowrider Next was a revell brabus mercedes sl done stance style Followed by a fujimi mk5 golf r32. Second time building it so this one is box stock with a retrimmed interior ala the vw tuning scene I followed this by completing a uscp trans kit I started back in october 19 After this came a revell snapper of a deutz tractor (I'm looking forward to getting the next in the series thats coming soon) And I followed this with a bel kits roger clark mk1 escort I'm hoping to scrape one more completion into this year since we're back on lockdown in the uk from boxing day
  12. It depends on which country you're from. The t2 bus got different bumper and indicator locations depending on what year and country it was sold in. Going purely by the ouside appearance it could for example be a 68 USA bus, but a 76 UK bus. I'm not saying its either of those, just that there are quite a few options it could be, and with very few changes it could realisticly be any year of production, but the larger rear lights suggest its most likely later in the production run
  13. The centre bullet for the dash is a great idea, looks like it should have always been that way
  14. I expect it sold out very quick due to christmas, i was lucky to get the 2 i have but i had them pre ordered as soon as it was announced (and got discount because of it being pre ordered). I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure another run will be in the works before the next version is released
  15. there's a feature on that car on stanceworks.com quite a few other mercs too, but dont let the stance tag put you off, it covers vintage motorsport too. It the guy that built the "rusty slamington" bmw that runs the site
  16. how about a lowrider inspired merc rig? or a 450sl by george barris I tried to find a pic of the mid 80s reiger wide arch mercs but had no luck
  17. I dont mind the revell snappers, i've built a few of the tractors and hey turned out decent. I'm hoping revell will do a a version with the low indicators, longer grille and rounded bumpers too or someone in the aftermarket comes out with those parts
  18. I was excited by the t1 camper but this one will be straight on the bench when it arrives. I have lots of good memories of family holidays in my families old one. One that stands out is a very expensive toilet break after the starter solenoid gave up. One membership of the AA (automobile association in the uk, not the 12 steps lot) and the man in the yellow van turned up, tapped the solenoid with a small hammer and she started right up. We also managed to get lost in carlisle so followed a bus that was heading to the campsite only to end up even more lost when it turned into its yard. Then on the forth road bridge, at the toll booth she puked her guts out of the engine so we had to be towed off the bridge by a police car. Actually looking back on it our bus was a bit of a wreck but then it had been around the world with the previous owner who I believe bought it new in canada. It was fun as kid to get stopped for underage driving only for the cops to realise it was lhd. I think we went through 8 engines in the time we owned it. We went through engines so often we modified the panel under the decklid to be removable which helped a lot when we swapped engines in the car park of an uro store.
  19. Just completed a nice smooth trade with Sam I Am, would happily trade again
  20. Yay! more vw's for the stash.
  21. their ebay carries different stock, could be worth a look there too
  22. theres one in the revell beretta pro street kit
  23. some good truck pics here https://public.fotki.com/boballoa/
  24. Thanks, I'll have to get one to build the road car version as the body looks very close to it. Might even mix it with a tamiya one to get the engine. I was going to cut down one of the italeri kits but since this one is coming out it'll make it much easier
