  1. i'd check the ingredients for silicones. When i worked in bodyshops we never used any turtle wax products as they were guarenteed to cause reactions. I'm not saying dont use it, just dot use it near where your building/painting as once its dry the polish dust spreads widely due to the very fine grains. Since you've already polished, a detailer spray might be more effective
  2. thanks for the help folks. Carl, these are fat man steering wheels. they slide or hinge on the centre to make space. they might have another name but i've only heard them called fat mans
  3. depends are in many of us' future
  4. cool project and if your looking for an uptop or convertible boot they are in the imai/aoshima/italeri boxed 1303s kits.
  5. manufacturing was much more labour intensive during ww2. during that time it took a factory full of staff to make a toy, now i can set my printer running and carry on with my day. all i have to do is pour some gloop and press a button. also a lot of what was made in ww2 didn't make it to europe so much more was needing made to make up for that and that needs raw materials so toys and civilian (i believe farm tractors and some haulage were exempt from this) tyres are among the first to disappear. all that tin from the toys kept our boys fed in spam and corn beef tins
  6. i really like how they did the printed parts, the frame around them is such a simple idea but will save a lot of broken parts. plus it looks very professional and just kinda cool.
  7. i've got the big parts painted but its in the middle of being polished for the third time. in the meantime the weather has improved and its warm enough to print again so i printed some lowrider parts. unfortunately the wheels are too small so i've got a larger set printing now, but some of the other parts will work
  8. its a big country (same sizea s texas) and the stuff they are producing is all exported. the farmers are still planting grains too. as it happens all the peppers and lettuce in my local supermarket is from israel and they're also at war. business carries on if it can as getting foreign money from exports buys more weapons than they would get if the product was sold local. then its not really making money but more moving it around. and local currency is worth less if the countries at war so any way to raise foreign cash helps as its a more stable currency.
  9. have fat man steering wheels been in any kits? or does any aftermarket suppliers make one? I'm building a bomb style lowrider and i'd like to use one if they're available
  10. is there a tabletop gaming club at your school? for games like warhammer or simlar fantasy games that use models? it could be worth asking those guys for a little help. they paint their own models, use a lot of metal tones and being a school theres most likely a club. good luck, your design looks pretty cool
  11. i haven't heard of it before. i'll have a look and see if i can find it somewhere. just found it on youtube https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=james+may+big+trouble+in+model+britain
  12. use one of the online uk number plate suppliers(the registation plate is often called a number plate on this side of the pond0 and they will generate a pic of how your plate will look. just save the pic and print it on decal or photo paper. this one seems good. https://numberplates4you.com/vintage-number-plates-vintage-registration-plates/
  13. there was one just on trains, it might have been toy stories but i'm sure it was a series on model trains
  14. theres a tv showthat features some famous model railroaders. its called the joy of trains with pete waterman. rod stewarts layout was featured and one of the guys from the who. james may was also featured but he also did a series on railroads. theres a third series too but i cant remember much about it apart from it was teams doing layouts in competition. it was a good watch. you might find some of these on bbc iplayer or britbox. these are all within the last 5 or 6 years
  15. say words without thinking and you might offend someone so its best to think about it and offend everyone
  16. have you seen the old british tv series called prisoner? i think this letter is the plot line, lol
  17. if you have a part number i can probably find you a casing, but i'm in scotland. i do have access to my friend that passed a couple years ago workshop. he did starter and alternator repairs and theres a shipping container packed with very late 60s-00s alternator and starters for euro and jap engines and marine diesels. if you cant find one close to home it could be an option. my sister inheritted it all and i convinced her to not dump any of it. i can even supply earlier dynamo casings. most of it is nos parts too.
  18. now and then i enjoy chocolate and pickled onions as a snack
  19. i let my mind wander and it hasn't come back
  20. the half top was in later issues. originally it was a full chopped carson top. heres th contents of th first issue
  21. i would use one of the usual hinges and just glue some small blocks to the door. they just wouldn't have the strength to open more than once if done in scale and would be difficult to keep square. if they aren't square they'll just bind up and tear out of the body
  22. you could do a two tone instead of the stripes. it might suit the car better and there seems to be a fe options
  23. you could try the double sided tape they use to fit new phone screens. you can get it down to 0.5mm wide in clear and black. Its not cheap (around $20 for a 10 metre roll) but its plenty strong. one of my friends uses it to hold the headlights on his rc hotrod and he beats on that thing hard.
  24. You would probably be better using the clear pearl. The only time i used the white pearl i found it took a lot of paint to get it to cover grey primer and until it was covered it looked blotchy rather than even
