  1. This year, my main goal is to get my painting technique as close to perfect as I can get it. I've watched every video and read every thread I could find. To that end, I've switched paint and now am using mainly three paints. Duplicate color perfect match, Tamiya TS line, and Testors extreme lacquer. I'm definitely improving, but I'm still getting a little more orange peel than I'm happy with. I can rub it out with effort but I'd rather improve my painting to make the polishing stage easier. I understand what causes orange peel, and I have some theories, but I want your input on a couple of questions. My coats are looking really good and smooth immediately after spraying. The orange peel is happening as the paint cures. 1. The first coat (tack coat) - with lacquer, understanding that the first coat should be light, should it still be just heavy enough to look wet and smooth immediately after spraying , or should it be more of a dust coat and look very dull? 2. Also related to the tack coat- should the first coat sit longer than that other coats? How long? 3. Any other suggestions I might b e missing? And yes, I know. "Get an airbrush." ?I'm working on getting my setup going. But I want to perfect this step too.
  2. It's a 2000 Moomba Boomerang. 18 ft. inboard ski boat. 350 Mercruiser engine which puts out about 325 hp. My dad bought it when it was about one year old and passed it to me a few years back. Skiing is one of my other passions. Been at it since the early 80's. My dad actually just retired from water sports about two years ago. He's in his mid 70's now. Still in pretty good shape for his age.
  3. Got ‘em today. Along with two others I’d been eyeing. Not crazy about the new graphics on the troublemaker kit though. I prefer the original decals.
  4. Nice kit. I built one of these about 20 years ago. The metallic blue plastic it was molded in was so nice I didn’t paint the body. Just lightly polished it and called it done. Interested to see how this goes for you.
  5. These factors also increase the need for instant gratification. So anything that requires skill-building to achieve good results is avoided.
  6. Love those Stingrays! I had a cheap knockoff when I was a kid. But I loved that bike. It was my first true love.
  7. No way, let’s see it! Anything that gets you out in the sun is welcome here. No contest intended!
  8. That’s going to be one good looking goat! I really like the gold you chose. I have an older issue of this kit with the light metallic blue car on the box. It’s nearly finished but I shelved it about 15ish years ago for reasons I don’t remember now. Iirc, all it needed was foiled and final assembly. Might have to dig it out and look at it again. I did mine in all black.
  9. …and there are all the reasons I don’t have time for the boat.?
  10. Summer can officially start now! I just got this back from the marina and dumped it in yesterday. It’s been in the family for a little over 20 years now. Come on! Let’s get summer going. Let’s see your warm weather toys!
  11. That looks terrific. I really like the way you did the plug wires.
  12. That is exceptional workmanship. Absolutely gorgeous.
  13. So here’s the “tip” part. You can use this as a reason to buy more kits. How can she say no if it’s for health reasons???
  14. Thought this was interesting and I wanted to share. This may not be the best place to post this, so mods, please move if you want to. Modelmaking: How This Hobby Makes You Smarter
  15. That’s really sharp. Great lines.
  16. Revell ‘71 GTX. Just ordered a couple of these. At $8.99, that’s a steal. https://www.amazon.com/RMX854477-Doms-Plymouth-GTX-2n1/dp/B08J7WHXRT/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?crid=3NDJ1AHX8U8X0&keywords=plastic+model+car+kits&qid=1684763688&refinements=p_n_deal_type%3A23566065011%2Cp_36%3A2638326011&rnid=2638325011&s=arts-crafts&sprefix=%2Caps%2C806&sr=1-10

  19. Sweet! I like the vibe.
  20. Gorgeous build.
  21. Really nice! What color/brand is that?
  22. Welcome Ced! My daughter is out there for school currently.
  23. Got the clear coat on the Pintera this afternoon. I sprayed Dupli Color clear. Finally making some headway on this thing.
  24. Got clear coat on both of these. Rustolium lacquer on the Camaro and Dupli Color on the Pintera. The Camaro will definitely need rubbed out. Not sure about the other one yet but it’s looking pretty good.
