1974 Camaro , continued
Can-Con replied to MarkJ's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Actually, both the Sunbeam and Mustang kit have been reissued in 2016 shouldn't be that hard to find. -
Could be the old Lindberg kit? IIRC, it was 1/20 scale. I've never seen one before aside from pics in the catalogue. BTW, Revell has a kit of the same car but with a regular V8 engine it was updated with in 1/25. This is the Wiki page on the real cars https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Aerovette

There's also a really nice set in the AMT Sunbeam Tiger kit. A set in the MPC '73 Mustang kit too. Not quite as nice but easier to find. -

That looks great. -
I really can't remember exactly what it is. This is what I remember though,, It's the original "Nash Bridges" issue. A lot of people were saying the color on the cars was "Bahama Yellow". So I had a touch-up bottle mixed at a local auto paint shop. Nope. Way off. This was back in the early days of the internet so good info wasn't as easy to find but I did find an article on the cars that said they were supposed to be that color but it didn't look good for the camera and they had them all repainted with a color from the commercial color chart. So, I found the chart and the only color on it that it could have been was Dodge commercial "School Bus Yellow" IIRC, That's what I had mixed for it. BUT, I understand Tamiya has a color called "Camel Yellow" that's pretty close.

When I did mine, I just hogged out the headlight openings, glued in thin sheet plastic for the new, larger headlight trim and used larger lights. I think it came out OK although they are still a bit too far apart..

Sweet replica. You pretty well nailed that one. ???

Revell '70 Pontiac Firebird 2'n1 1/24
Can-Con replied to KT EASTMAN's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
How so? It has all the wheel opening flares, the shaker hood, the rear spoiler, etc. The decals are missing the "Trans Am" lettering because of licensing issues. What exactly is missing? -
I can't actually see the auctions as you've posted it, I had to search for the auction numbers so it might be a different kit I'm looking at. It would be helpful if you could go back to the auctions and post what's in the address bar at the top of your page so I know I have the right ones But from what I've seen, none of those RR or GTX kits have been issued with both the pro street and stock parts. The stock kit does come with a set of very out of fashion wheels and some hop up parts for the engine though ,, but not the wide rear tires or pro street chassis parts.

Looks great Gareth. It just shows how a little extra work can make all the difference with these old kits.
-
I'm guilty of that myself from time to time.

Yea, that kit's completely unbuildable. ? Whatever happened to removing flash and seam lines being one of the normal first steps to building a model? I wonder of the person who posted that pic even heard of removing seam lines? ?

Modeling TV sit-com cars from '50s-60s; any out there?
Can-Con replied to W Humble's topic in WIP: Dioramas
Although not a sitcom, the original MacGyver had a couple intresting vehicles , besides the Jeeps, that are available in kits. He has a brown and beige '40s Chevy pickup and a blue '57 Nomad. Kits are both available. The Nomad could be done with the old Monogram kit but it really isn't that great. The pickup could be done with the Revell/Monogram kit, that's a nice kit. -
I'm using Chrome too and still get the large ads.

Harry, I've done my share of candy paints and I can give you a few tips. The silver, gold and other very metallic paints do indeed block the red. It's because the flakes in it act like shellac and lay down like shingles on a roof so it's harder for the dye to leach up through the layers. The pigment in other paints lays down like balls or pebbles, it's easier for the pigment to seep up through it. The silver, gold or whatever can be tinted to match your final color. metallic light blue for candy blue, light green for green, pink for red, etc. This gives a base that will be easier to cover evenly as the tinted base helps hide any light and dark areas. Don't even try to get a shiny wet coat with the candy. Just put it on in mist coats until you have the depth you want and then clearcoat it. It WILL need a clearcoat if you plan to polish it out or do any sanding on it. IF you sand or polish the uncleared candy coats you could very easily make that spot lighter than the surrounding paint or even go right through to the base coats. You can clearcoat Tamiya acrylics with the lacquer sprays BUT, it's difficult and could make the color run just like someone said above. I'd just wait for it to harden a week or two and clear it with 3 or 4 coats of the Tamiya clear in the bottle airbrushed on and polish it out when that has dried for a few days ,, the longer the better. Good luck with it. I ordered the green Mura with the photoetch from my local hobby shop about 3 months ago but he hasn't got it in for me yet.

As far as I know, they all had the same engine lineup as the regular Chevy lineup they were based on. -

All the trim and scripts you'd need are on the MCG '68/'69 and '70/'72 Nova photoetch sheets. But I don't know of anyone who makes the unique tail lights and grilles. BTW, it's just "Acadian", no "Pontiac". Dealerships were combined here in Canada. Usually "Chev, Olds, Cadillac" and "Pontiac, Buick, GMC". Acadians and Beaumonts were sold at Pontiac dealers but are not "Pontiacs" any more than Buicks and GMCs are. -

I think I'd rather have the AMG edition, IIRC, the Tim Taylor edition keeps breaking down and in the end has a steel beam dropped on it. ? -
What did you see on the road today?

I'd sleep in an Oldsmobile full of snakes before I'd be in a building with just one free roaming robot like that.
