Always wanted an AMT '70 annual but they're bloody expensive, if you can find one. Lucked into this one in a trade with a great fellow builder [Mike Mackie AKA mk11] who took pity on me. LOL Pretty rough to start with. Hogged out wheel wells and missing a lot of parts. I used some parts from an MPC '70 and a Monogram 1/24 '70 and, most importantly, a resin front bumper front bumper from Ragtop Man. [Thanks again Bob] and the loan of a grille from Kelson [Thanks Curtis] So, here's a couple "before" pics,, , , And a year later , ,

Getting pretty close now. The chassis is attached to the rest of the car. The rad is in. It's the one from the Monogram 1/24 kit. The bumpers are back from LMKC and detailed. The headlights are the custom driving lights from the MPC/AMT '69 kit with lenses from the parts box. The center panel between the tail lights was a bit damaged from having a drag shute glued to it but the black paint makes it less noticeable. The paint bottle is holding the back of the body tight to the chassis plate until the glue fully dries.

Cool. I did one like that almost 20 years ago. Something wierd went on with the nail polish I painted it with a few months after I finished it though so it's not been seen much.

Not exactly the same but the ones in the Revell '32 5 window coupe are very similar.

Who doesn't love a mock-up? Let's see yours!

Bob, are the fender vents out of a Monogram 1/24? I was thinking of doing the same thing for a while and was wondering how they would fit. -

Looks closer to Acapulco blue but that's supposed to be a metallic color. Probably just one of the standard Revell paint colors.

Upcoming Round 2 reissue news via Spotlight Hobbies
Can-Con replied to Dave Darby's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Too bad it wasn't reissued as a 2 in 1 same as the last issue. I don't think many people know there's some vintage hotrod parts in the stock issue. -
Thanks Steve, I kinda got lucky with that one, it turned out pretty good but still has some BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH in it here and there. The color is about 1/2 way between the two shades in the pics.

Why so few American Motors kits?
Can-Con replied to Matt Bacon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
BTW, here's a link to Casey's post of the '75 AMT catalogue showing both versions of Matadors in the same book. https://modelkitreviews.proboards.com/thread/694/amt-1975-catalog -
Why so few American Motors kits?
Can-Con replied to Matt Bacon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The factory stock and nascar versions of the Matadors were both out at the same time until the stock version went custom. But even then, the custom parts were only substituted for the corresponding stock parts. The body was never modified. It could have been issued as a 2in1 kit if AMT was so inclined back then. -
Don't know if you guys know this or not but when they brought the "Super Cherger" back from being a race car, they didn't restore the wheel openings properly. There should be a bevel around then that was on the original annual kit but not now on the super Charger. I think you can see plainly what I mean in this pic. That bevel isn't on the kit now, just flat right to the opening.

Yes, the tires were definitely the same, nice ones too. IIRC, The wider rear tires and wheels don't fit well on the stock Elky.
-
The wheels in the Woodie and the Elky kit weren't exactly the same though. The wheels from the Elky are on the '32 and the wheels from the Woodie are on the '36. I also have one of those Elkys 3/4 assembled. It's that weird FI unit that held it up. Never liked the look of that one so I'm swapping it out for a pair of Hollys.
