Question: what engine is in this kit? TIA!
Can-Con replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Actually, I did refer to the '70 LT-1,, right there at the bottom in brackets. But, like David said, it could be almost anything. Unless it has casting numbers on the back of the block. Just thought of something though, unless it has an extra space for a freeze plug on each side of the block, it probably isn't a 400. -

Or a 262 or 265 or 267. -

Generic small block Chevy Like David said above, it could be any displacement SBCs came in or a "crate engine" so 302, 305, 327, 350, 383,400, but since the kit came out in the late '80s, it probably supposed to be a 350. Wouldn't be a "LT" engine as they were the fuel injected "generation II" SBC that came out until '92 in the Vette and looks a lot different then a carbureted engine. [unless the rare '70 LT-1 from '70] -
What would YOU like to see as a model
Can-Con replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yea, but that's an extreme example. Just because he's asking that for it doesn't mean anyone's gonna buy it for that. He's also asking 90 bucks for a reissue '72 Chevelle from a few years ago. Ridiculous price for a common as dirt kit. -

Except for one quite rare '70 or '71 T/A, all the MPC Firebirds were Formulas right from '70 or '71 up through '76. I have a 1/2 decent '74 re-builder, another '74 I'm converting to a T/A "canyon carver" and a pretty nice '76 promo. I don't think I paid more then the price of a new kit for any of them. -
Got brave and painted the black on the trunk panel last night. Not perfect but not too bad. Also, here's a couple pics of a mockup with the AMT Gatorbacks and widened Magnum 500s. It will sit a bit higher than this when finished.

Only problem with that is the Lindberg '67 front end is wonkey. The hood area right above the grille is too curved. Should be a straighter slope with just a slight curve. also seems to be too high somehow. Kinda gives it more of an early '60s Lincoln look to me. I've made an attempt at improving the one I have but it's what's always kept me from building the kit. My favorite uncle had a gold '67 when I was young, had it for a long time and I have great memories of going to the lake with my cousins in that car so I was really excited when the kit was announced ,, disappointed when I opened the box. This pic pretty clearly shows the front of the hood. and here's one built by Randy Bodkin. Maybe it's just me but this just dosen't look "right" to me.

Made some more progress over the last week or so. Paint's polished out and trim is foiled and detail painted. I also took a crack at painting the black strips on the hood. Not perfect but I think it came out OK. I also flocked the floor and started detail painting the interior.

Yes, there were two kits. A 2 window coupe and a phaeton. Both looked fantastic. The Phaeton had the billet wheels and looked very '80s/'90s on the box. The 3 window has a nice set of Halibrands that would still be very acceptable on a current build. Both kits had the option of being built without without fenders. Some of the details are a bit dated as is the decals but if they were done in 1/25 those would be moot points as we'd be sourcing other parts from various kits anyway. If these two were done in 1/25 instead of 1/16 they would still be flying off the shelves.?

Anyone heard from him? it looks like he hasn't been here in almost 4 months.

'64 Olds Cutlass kit problem
Can-Con replied to bisc63's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Some photoetch OLDSMOBILE lettering would fix ya right up there Rusty. MCG doesn't make a set specifically for that kit but they do make a couple sets you could use the lettering from -
Yes, I meant Testors
-
I know that Scott. I meant Testors. I also know it was originally an IMC as the tires that were being discussed, that's why I made the post. This is the box it came in. , , You did know Testors reissued this kit, right?
-
These are the tires in the Revell reissue of the Cougar II. I assume there the same as in the original issue? I have a Union reissue of the Chaparral and Lotus, same type of tire but IIRC, two different sizes. [Yes, I know,, Testors, NOT Revell]

Excellent. ???

I've never had the Sunrunner kit. It shows the square headlight grille on the box and on the instructions plus I've seen pics of a stock Ford van molded in yellow with that grille so I figured it would actually have it in the kit.
-
Possibly and at least partly true for sure but I always figured Mopar was trying to make those cars and the AAR Cudas look as much like the actual track cars raced in the Trans-Am serise as possible.
-
So does the "Sunrunner" and "Sorcerer". Same kit, all the same parts, different decals.

Looking for some Cragars
Can-Con replied to Dirkpitt289's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Most people call a chrome 5-spoke wheel with spokes of that shape "Cragars". Like all snowmobiles are "skidoos" and and all personal water crafts are "jetskis". No big deal and 99% of the people out there wouldn't know the difference. I've had to do "close enough" many many times myself when the exact part isn't readily available. ?
