How about some spooky halloween music
Can-Con replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
This guy's version of the Monster Mash is pretty cool. He has some other videos too where he's doing all the parts. Very entertaining. -
Revell ‘55 Chevy Questions
Can-Con replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Looks like it just takes a little trimming but I dunno,, -
I can dig it !! ???

As with a lot of these older kits, the engine bat leaves a bit to be desired. I did use the firewall and radiator wall from the MPC donor kit and closed it in with some plastic sheet. Then I made a couple simple shock towers from sheet. ,, And glued them in using the brace from the Monogram kit as a guide for placement. Thinking about it earlier today, I should have used the brace from the 1/25 Revell '69 Mustang I'll be pirating the back bumper from. I haven't painted the assembly yet so I may change it before I'm done.

What would YOU like to see as a model
Can-Con replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Have you seen the 1/24 slotcar bodies of this car made in the '60s, Bill? They look pretty good. I think they're styrene but I don't know for sure. https://www.slotforum.com/threads/jeffries-manta-ray.57254/ -
I've kinda done that but used regular Testors semi gloss black around the side windows. For the windshield and read glass I used black BMF and scraped the black off the center to look like the stainless lock strip in the rubber. I've done two AMT Rabbits this way so far. Great work on the header Bil, and the 1/1 looks awesome. That yellow one in your garage looks pretty healthy from what I can see in the pic,, any more pics?

MPC 1981 Chevy Stepside Pickup Sod Buster (1:25 SCALE)
Can-Con replied to av405's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I think this trailer would be perfect. Include one of their new garage scene sets with tool boxes etc and Bob's your uncle! -
Many people have talked about this kitbash but I think this is the first time I've actually seen someone do it,, Kudos ?

It's quite thick for this used strait from the bottle and can leave a raised, noticeable ridge around the P.E. It lays down thinner and pretty well disappears this way.

Old AMT model kits... why not to reissue those?
Can-Con replied to Drago's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
They couldn't just 3-D print parts to put in kits. IIRC, it takes hours to print a part, depending on it's size. Can you imagine how long it would take to print out just one grille each for several thousand kits? -
I scuff up the back of the emblems with some fine sandpaper before taking them off the fret and attach them with a drop of Tamiya clear acrylic thinned 50/50 with rubbing alcohol. After this sits a few hours [or days] I brush a bit more of the thinned clear over the entire emblem to seal it to the paint.

MPC 1981 Chevy Stepside Pickup Sod Buster (1:25 SCALE)
Can-Con replied to av405's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
They are basically the same kit with changes to make a different variation. -
That's very hard to find these days. Most wee nippers are total snowflakes, not like when we were wee nippers. But it's not their fault, it's their parents that made them that way.

You need to know how wide the body of the Ford kit and the fuselage of the shuttle kit are. I'd start with the Monogram 1/32 Ford myself then adapt a 1/72 or 1/48,posibly 1/144scale Monogram shuttle, I really don't know the widths anymore but I did look into it back 30 years ago when I was thinking about doing this. Both kits should be cheaper to start with and less work since it's a smaller scale. THEN build a car wash bay. ??

Not much. Just bend the head down a bit so it sits level and it would be pretty well spot on. -
AMT 1972 Chevrolet Pickup Steering Wheel
Can-Con replied to Jim B's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have a few of the earlier issues of those AMT '72s and never had a bad steering wheel. -
Atlantis Models has bought another lot of tooling/molds.....
Can-Con replied to Dave Van's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Ah, but they have, Carl. Remember those 1/32 scale AMT "All Stars" kits? the '32 Ford, '60 Thunderbird, etc. -
I was actually quite surprised at how close in size the rear bumpers are considering how much difference there is in the front ones.

Vintage ‘69 Acadian SS model kit
Can-Con replied to BlackSheep214's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That and the fact that Jairus Watson never did their box illustrations. ? -
The AMT Rabbit [Golf MkI] is one of my favorite kits. I've built 2 and have 2 more in the stash. Underhood area is very fiddly though, no mounting points for the engine/tranny. That's definitely NOT the same kit that AMT reissued a couple years ago though. The reissue is a 1/24 Esci kit and this kit is originally AMT 1/25 and has only been issued that one time. If you need chassis or engine parts, the reissued AMT MkI Sirocco chassis and engine are identical to the ones in this kit.

I'm not a big fan of '57 Chevys like some people are, I can take them or leave them but I gotta say, I really like yours. That color works great on it.

No, I don't think he had much to do with that car, or any of the early cars that came out of the Barris shop. It was his brother, Sam that had all the talent. George was just a salesman,, "pitch man" if you will. That's why the early cars look so much better then the later cars built after Sam passed away. George also had a habit of buying cars built by other people, repainting them and making other minor changes and taking all the credit for the whole car instead of just the small and usually bad changes he made to them.

OK, I went and checked for you Mark. Although the front bumper of the Revell kit is about 1/8" wider than the old AMT kit front bumper, the rear Revell bumper is less than 1/16" wider. I also have a rear bumper from an AMT annual, which is different then the reissues and that's maybe only 1/32" different then the Revell piece. The only AMT '69 Chevelle I have unassembled is already converted to a Beaumont so I can't check on the tail lights. But in all honesty, I see no advantage in the AMT kit over the Revell. A lot of the time a new kit will have something that's "a bit off" making the older kit body look better or more accurate but aside from the easily fixed problem with the rear 1/4 panels, I don't see anything wrong with the Revell kit. [and I do like the old AMT kits]
