Oh, I agree completely. Those are pretty bad also. That's why I said a completely new seat would be much better. I don't think I've seen buckets like that in any truck, let alone the kits they come in.

That bench seat is better off to stay lost Roger. It's about 6 scale inches narrower at the top of the seat back then the bottom. A completely new seat would be much better. You might be able to tell from this pic what I mean. Notice how close the bottom of the seat is to the door panel compared to the top of the seat back? That's how much narrower it is at the top. Should be the same width from top to bottom.

Personally, I think the chassis will be just fine. As Roger points out above, you can't see it when it's on a shelf ,, or contest table either usually. Some people like a 500 piece kit with everything separate. ,, well, maybe not considering how many Trumpeter Pontiacs and Novas I've [not] seen built. That's fine. If they enjoy painting and assembling a 50 piece chassis, more power to them. I just don't find that part of the build enjoyable. I'd rather spend my time with stuff I'll be looking at. And I think there's others around here that feel the same way.

Built this one close to 15 years ago. Hasn't been seen in a while. Had to find a pic for another thread so I thought I'd repost it for those who haven't seen it before. The common MPC 4X4 kit with the front suspension from an AMT Chevy van swapped in. Custom wheels with centers I did myself in Pegasus rims and tires.

Yea, I thought mine turned out pretty good. Just got rid of the molded in lenses

Doesn't connect to the Coronets at all. The Dodge Monaco was used for that car, which was a full size car.

Very nice, clean build.?

AMT 1967 Impala custom bodywork
Can-Con replied to Plasticated Guy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That's exactly hoe I did this '74 Impala. This line is very rounded on the '74 to '76 bodies compared the the '71 to '73 bodies which are correct. Sometimes I use 2 layers of masking tape to make sure I have the area built up high enough. -
I'll have to check mine, I haven't really looked for this detail, but you're most likely right, of course.
-
Those MPC kits always had that. I should have filled that on mine but overlooked it.

I did intend to mention the 2WD parts but in my excitement about this whole thing I forgot. Make it a 2WD longbed 454 and that would have all the bases covered.

Glad to get this one back. Looks like it might have separate headlight lenses this time too. Ya know what would be cool though? If they did a new cab, grille, bumpers and hood and released a '73/'74 which has never been done in 1/25 before.

Pretty close. Earlier grille and normal size wheels and tires.

AMT 1972 GMC Stepside

Excellent build. ? -
I now have a front grille. It looks like the grille opening on this body was widened slightly for some reason and I'll fix that. I did fill the gaps but it doesn't look right. The slots on the sides of the grille are too narrow. I'll have to redo the repair work and make them wider before it goes any farther. I may cut the bumper free and use the MPC bumper as I only had to do a bit of sanding to the inside of the ends for it to fit like it was made for this AMT kit. I have the wheel and tires picked out. Going with some AMT Gatorbacks with 55s for the front and 40s for the rear. The wheels are modified Magnum 500s form a Monogram Superbird kit with the rims swapped from the wheels shown.

Anyone know what this kit is?

There's a couple on e-bay right now but the asking prices are ridiculous. -
Removing paint from one piece window unit.
Can-Con replied to John M.'s topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
In use Easy Off myself. Never had it adversely affect clear plastic. , , BUT, flat black is notoriously hard to remove. You may have to fall back on wet sanding and polishing like you would do to paint to get it off. -
I think it would look good in a burgundy close to the interior color. A lot of car makers used to have the paint be a close match to the interior back then.
