Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Can-Con replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good to see you back Snake. For some reason, it says you can't recieve messages. Sucks about the Mrs. cleaning up your workbench. I told "The lovely Mrs. CanCon" about that and she says "Oh No, she knows enough to never touch my workbench", and she never has. -
Thanks Joe. No secret on the paint stripping. I just put it in a large zip-loc bag and hosed it down with Easy-Off in the pump spray bottle. It's thicker than in the spray can, more like a jell so it stays on the parts better.

I'd definitely say that's an MPC Rex. Nice one. Most of the '69 parts should fit right on there, including the bumpers. The hard parts are the front grille and rear tail light panel. I suspect it's short like the current '69s are but if you get ambitious you could lengthen it with pieces sliced from the doors and roof of the '69 donor's body.

For a stock engine, the only one I can think of that would look correct is from the JoHan '63 Olds Starfire. Pretty crude but it's the only one with the correct stock valve covers. The hotrod engine in the AMT '40 Ford sedan is also an Olds but it also looks earlier. Personally, I'd just swap in a later engine from one of the 442s but that wouldn't be very "stock". -
True, sometimes the journey is bad and sometimes it is good. Does it matter if the journey leads to your mother-in-law's bedroom? ?

Looks a bit better now. Still needs a bit of fine tuning but it's almost there.

Well, it's all apart. Still some paint still being stubborn so back in the oven cleaner it goes. I have a couple fresh frames so I won't bother trying to work with this one. So, here's what I seem to have. Main body and doors and floor,, I'm pretty sure are from the Revell '31 sedan delivery. Fender unit, hood, radiator and chassis are AMT '29 Roadster. Cowl, AMT Ala Cart. windshield, dash and firewall,, seem to be MPC '29 Woodie/pickup. I'm not bothering with that cowl assembly either. It's pretty rough. I'm going to use the cowl, dash and windshield from the roadster pickup cab in the MPC '29 kit that was just issued. No point in messing with roached out old BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH when I have brand new parts I can swap in that I'd probably never use otherwise.

AMT/MPC '84GMC 2WD pickup
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yea, it seemed to me that the rear wheel openings were larger than they should be. Possibly to accommodate the larger 1/20 tires used in the Fall Guy version, which the box was originally made for. I shrunk them down to match the size of the front openings. I don't know if I was correct in this but it does seem to look better to me. -

They has their own unique dash too. This not aftermarket, it's factory '55-'57 GMC. -
AMT/MPC '84GMC 2WD pickup
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks Steve. Not a lot of shots of the chassis but I do have a couple of the front suspension, I'll add a link below to the build album. But here's a shot of the front suspension I pirated from an old A-Team van builtup I had on hand. It was rough but workable. https://public.fotki.com/SteveMilberry/projects/84-gmc-sport-truck/ -
I've been threatening to start this one for years. Time has come. Got in a box of builtups almost 20 years ago. Got it in a big zip-loc bag with Easy-off last weekend so we'll see exactly what's what with it maybe tomorrow. Looks like a Revell '30 body with a '29 cowl grafted on. I'll be able to tell better with the paint stripped off and it blown apart. It'll make a nice commercial hot rod,, or more specifically, "Street Machine".

You guys look like you're having altogether too much fun so last week I threw this thing in a large zip-loc bag and hosed it down with oven cleaner. Not a pickup so I won't be posting it in this thread but I did a pickup last year, need a bit of variety. No pastels for me but some fine pearl may be in order. I have a set of decals from the first issue of the Monogram '39 Chevy delivery I'd like to use the signage from on this so looks like it's gonna be green. I'm also gonna start a '29 roadster loosely based on the Chuck Hoffman '28. That car is so perfectly timeless.

3M 3000 grit polishing pad
Can-Con replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's a start but I'd get a set of Micro Mesh sheets. They start at 1500 or 3200 depending on the set and go up to 12000 grit. -
Luc, I cringe every time I see you called those vans "Econoliner", it's just "Econoline". ?
-
If it's "wanted" someone may have one they can trade for,, or they would be willing to send to you for free ,, or they might know where you can find whatever you're looking for.

Never said it was his best role, just said I wish I had never seen it. ?

Too bad. Whenever I think of him I always think of the "dinner party" scene in "Hannibal". Wish I'd never seen that, very disturbing. ??
