Wow, looking at the pictures it sure does look black doesn't it. Its actually a dark green, I don't remember the exact color but I do remember it was my first time using Tamiya spray paint and being impressed with how well it laid down. I also did this when it was cold out and I always have better luck in the cold. My Dads body shop ran cold too so that was how I learned how to paint 1/1 cars. Thank you for all the kind words and now I have to get another one of these kits and paint it black!

Tonight I started a model I've been wanting to build for years,The Vanishing point Challenger. My camera battery is dead so no pictures of my progress yet but all Ive done so far is clean up some parting lines and study the parts. I started with the Revell Streetburner 70 Challenger kit. The engine looks like its a bit generic so I will put it together tomorrow and see how it looks and If I'm not happy with it I have the engine from the 68 Dart I can use. It looks like if you were building the T/A version you would still use this same almost a big block engine so if that's your plan you will want to source a better 340. The seats also look a bit wrong for the car, here are some 70 R/T seats with the herringbone pattern: And the back seats: I'm not up to date on all the ways Dodge offered the R/T in 1970 but Kowalski's car had a black rather than argent grill surround, and no chin spoilers. It also had bumperettes, I'm not sure how I am going to add those: The taillight surround was body color: It also looks like the tires were the Good Year poly glass tires, the parts pack tires should be a good fit for this. I've got a couple of herringbone patterns saved for decals along with a few other important items like these: I'm looking forward to this build, as always your comments and suggestions are welcome, and if you've built this kit before and some advice I'm all ears. Although it should be mentioned I'm not a complete rivet counter so I will let the not so obvious slide. Heck, most people that look at my models have never even heard of Vanishing Point or can tell a 70 Challenger from a 2010 for that matter.

Ford van, update, new mural.
MGL replied to MGL's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This one is finished for now and can be seen under glass. Thank you for your kind words and for looking. -
I am calling this one done, sorry about the poor quality pictures, my lack of photography skills is only surpassed by my inability to retain anything I learn about photography. At any rate, this is the Phantom van done as a custom Pink Floyd theme van for a guy that apparently does a bit of traveling to concerts. My time period is about 78 or 79. There are no performance parts or load mufflers because this guy would rather listen to the music of Floyd than the music of a V8. This van has floor to ceiling carpet, a bed, a cabinet/bar, a mirror on the ceiling, and a girl in the back. The build can be seen here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/105347-ford-van-update-new-mural/ Thank you for looking and as always your comments are welcome. I don't know how many Pink Floyd themed vans would have been running around with a Reagan bumper sticker but I am a Pink Floyd fan, and I was a Reagan supporter in the 80's so I suppose that makes it possible. But then again, West Virginia is one of the few states he didn't carry in the election so maybe a Reagan sticker with WV tags in the late 70's is fairly accurate for someone that would drive this. Maybe its best not to get too caught up in the story behind the build.

That's neat, I especially like the stock wheels.

Agreed, nice job overall but the shaker hood looks really good.

Ford van, update, new mural.
MGL replied to MGL's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Here is the new mural, I think it feels more 70's. The first one had a reference to The Wall album that didn't come out until around 79 so it wouldn't work. Not to mention it looked more like a modern vinyl decal than a 70's homegrown custom. The new mural is a combination of decal, spray, and hand painting. Oh how I wish I had pulled the trigger on that air brush I've been thinking about buying! I also finished flocking the interior with floor to ceiling carpet and added a BMF mirror to the ceiling and some concert posters. I think the bumper stickers should be correct for about 78 or so. I also added a Jimmy Flintstone figure to the back but she's not appropriate for a family friendly forum such as this. I did open the back windows so she wouldn't get too hot though. -
Looks cool, I like that you didn't chop it.

Very nice, I like it.

Scratchbuilding a Hurst (-ish) Shifter

Thanks Snake, I'm going to try this on a future build. -
Too cool for words!

Very nice, I like seeing things you don't see everyday. Well done on an ambitious project!

This is what I'm working on now, the Phantom van. This is going to be a Pink Floyd themed van from the mid to late 70's but I didn't like my first idea as much as I thought I would: I have stripped these decals and made others along with some paint work. I ran out of clear so I will get some pictures of the body tomorrow after I pick some up and get it laid on.

Thanks Tom, you would think I would get it right, my Dads shop specialized in VW's, the first engine I ever rebuilt was a VW, and my wife drove VW's exclusively until our daughter was born. Now if I can just figure out how to edit a title.

I think I should correct this to say it's mostly a scratch built bed, it started out as the wrecker bed that came with the kit.

Nice and clean, I like it. -
Very nice, I like the way the chrome has aged. Where did the intake and air cleaners come from?
-
I love this, great job!
-
Cool, builds like this are making me want to run out and get an airbrush right now.
-
Thank you Snake, the paint is Duplicolor deep jewel green.
-
Looks good, I don't know how we get all those details at the pace that you build. Great job!
-
That's cool! I don't know what sculpt is, did you carve or sculpt the head? If so that's really neat.

Built this a while ago with extra parts. Not a lot to it, just kind of threw it together but I thought it was neat. Scratch built bed, welder and tool box. Some homemade decals. Not much else.

Recently finished this, mostly out of the box with flocking, Morgan Automotive Details distributor, BMF, parts pack tires, wheels from the 68 Dart, Detail Master alternator bracket, and homemade decals for the tags, inspection sticker, and houndstooth seat inserts. Thanks for looking, tell me what you think.
