Johan Pro Street Rambler kit question
OldTrucker replied to USAC_1957's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'm sitting here looking at one on the shelf in a case that I built back when the kit was first released. The first model I ever tried two tone paint on! I didn't put the decals on for something like 10 years after building it and they were coming apart so had to touch them up with as close match paint as I could mix. I remember building a Rambler kit before that one with an open trunk and it had luggage for the trunk. Was that the 66 Rambler maybe? -
That would be it! I also chose to bare metal foil the trim. My kid gave the kit to me because it didn't interest him. It sat in my closet for a few years before I decided to build it. Was going to repaint it black like one a friend had years ago but then decided to just polish the red and paint the roof! I was surprised at how well it went together and looked other than the shallow grill detail but a black wash helped it quite a bit.(after three tries LOL) I'd probably build another if I ran into another kit priced right.

Back in the day we would have deemed that a "sleeper"! Looks sort of like grandma's car but would blow the other guy away at the light!

I have never seen this kit done better than this!

That would be a great thing to have!!! I have one on my "Honey Do" list for the wife. That is her favorite TV program!

X3! Bio Freeze works great!

I built the red one stock. The only changes were I painted the top black, the interior two tone red and went with part box tires. (Good Year Polyglass)

Rebuilding a 1:1

The truck would be the best choice when it comes to getting parts! -
DVR the show and then fast forward through the commercials! We never watch anything on TV unless we give it 20 minutes lead time so we can! Will be cutting the cord come spring! Grandkids will be all in school full time next year and when we watch them in the summer we are outside most of the time!

What's the extra shifter for?
OldTrucker replied to MeatMan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't seen one of those in a car in over 30 years! Had one in my 66 Pontiac Lemans! -
Just got rid of the big gas bubble that was nagging me all morning. Now the wife is irked!

We have the same issue. You can tell which cats are house cats mainly because most have collars or at least a flea collar. While the park here has had cats trapped and the older ones spayed or neutered most of the house cats aren't fixed and they are the ones that are having the kittens that become the new crop of feral cats! It's a vicious cycle.
-
What irked me today I packed up in it's box and my work station is empty! Trying to build this Indy car for 3 weeks and it has been a nightmare! Wanted to take a hammer to it but the wife won't let me! The only thing on the bench right now is a Louis L'Amour novel!

X2 all over our yard and our ramp/porch smell like cat urine from them spraying. My son can't mow his lawn without walking in cat BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH due to the neighbor feeding the feral cats that are running rampant here!

I have tried several times to replicate a model I built long long ago that met it's demise, was stolen or given away. Only one came out close. The main problem is if you didn't build it straight out of the box it is almost impossible to find the same parts you used to make it your own so when you are done it just does not have that same feel to it. For sure you cannot replicate the pride you had in that original build, just cannot capture that excitement that came with the planning and execution of the project. That is why while I will build some of the same kits that were lost years ago because I really liked them, I don't try to replicate the past.

Since I have been building for over 50 years I don't even want to think about the number! -

Ron, when I was in Jr High a friend of mine collected pennies (still does today) and he had one that was worth about 150 bucks back then. Went to his house one day after school and he was going to show it to me and it along with some others he had in a metal bandaid tin were gone! He yelled for his little sister who told him she had went across the street and bough bubble gum with it out of the gumball machine in the lobby of a store in the shopping center. We took her over and she showed us which machine it was so he went in to see the store manager who told him the machines belonged to a vendor and the phone number was on the machine! He called and told the guy what happened and the guy said "any money put in a machine became HIS property and that he would not come and find his collector coins for him. We took the machine and ran across the road to his house and hid it in the garage. His dad came home and he called the local police who came out and called the vendor to come and open the thing and let the kid get his pennies back. At first he refused but the Chief of Police was one of them and he informed him that with one phone call he would be collecting all his machines in town because they would revoke his permit! He relented and after about 2 hours (with the help of his dad and two Police Officers) we had recovered his valuable penny and the other half dozen that were with it! I have a couple of the old steel pennies but they are not worth much.
