Huge losses to the modeling community
stavanzer replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Chopper Lear Gone? That Hurts. I've never met the man, but I've seen many builds and enjoyed his comments over at the 'other' forum. A Huge Loss, Indeed! -
Thanks Casey. You really have my mind in gear. Of Course, the Gee-T and Skeeter are the ones that Haven't been re-popped! Looks Like I need Tires from AMT, Engine From a Revell '34, and a Gee-T kit to hang everything on..........
-
That Charger has a really nice 1/32 scale Hemi. Not Great, but very nicely engraved.
-
So, are the Gee-T and Sno Skeeter almost the same kit? What kit would have suitable One piece tires? Would the Mini Craft Model "A" Hot Rod Flattie trans plant into this kit? Would the Lindberg Exterminator Twin Engine Dragster be a good choice for kit bashing? Thanks!
-
I wonder what the odds are of ever seeing the Sno-Skeeter are? I really like the nose piece! iBorg is correct that it resembles the XR-6. That is how I'd build it. Steelies all around, that XR nose, cycle fenders , and an open top. (I'd still have the ski rack, tho!) You guys make me want to go cruise the 'Bay!

You do yourself a disservice, Thomas. The very fact that you are willing to even consider an ICM Opel kit, shows quite a bit of original thought. Many builders would dismiss them just because the are Not American, Not From one of the Big Three, and Not clearly fitting one of the Popular Categories. (ie: Muscle Cars, Showrods, Drag Racers, Ect.) Go for it and have fun. The T.R.O.G. idea is Great! I'd really like to see you follow that idea to the end.

Slightly off topic. The July 2012 issue of Hot Rod Deluxe is devoted to Dean Moon. There are some good B/W pics of the Mooneyes racer as well as many pages of other never seen before pics. I'm not certain, but I think The Rodder's Journal has done a feature spread on the car also. It might be worth tracking these down as resources for an AMS build.

In the words of Eric Frank Russell, "I'd Buy That For a Quarter!" I think it looks fine, and I truly like the blue plastic it's molded in. -
Dig that 'Crazy' intake. MPC even avoided the temptation to Chrome it!

No.

Gents, I was mistaken. It only got up to 65 Deg today, and stayed overcast all day. Glad it hasn't snowed here. Last snow in Bakersfield was 1999.
-
So, If I tell you that is should reach 70 Deg today, you'd be upset? However, it is not the joke I make it out to be. We've had almost no freezing weather, and as an agricultural area, we do need at least a couple hard Freezes to help crops and kill the insects. It will be a miserable, Gnat and Mosquito infested Spring & Summer, otherwise. Ugh. And the Almanac is predicting a hotter than normal Summer. Double Ugh!

Notice that the Bucket Seats, Tim B. speculated about do NOT appear in the hanger shot. So, his supposition that the seats are newly tooled holds water. It also makes me me thirst for more Hanger Shot pics. Just What else is lurking in there? -
Scalemates! Bah! Since editing is crowd sourced, every time somebody knowledgeable corrects a post, some body, who doesn't "Know the real history" goes back to 'correct it' back the original "wrong' history. I've watched it happen. Thus bad info is perpetuated while the real story gets lost. Very much like "Real History" in that way........... Edited to add. "That's why I don't bother correcting things at Scalemates, Tom"

Dave, if we're Dreaming about the Ranchero, lets go all the way and Dream about the Country Wagon. Should be do-able.

Thank You, Robert. I remember seeing that pic, too. Just forgot about it. I'm not as sharp as I once was....... -
A Radio station Weatherman in Alaska in the 1970's was fired after giving the following weather report at 2:00 in the morning. "Ya wanna know what the weather is? Look out the (Blah-Blah) window!" Who knew the FCC listened at 2:00am?

All, well and good, but can they at least tease us with pics of the Contents? No Offense, but I've now seen a dozen photos of a 50 year old box. I'm as nostalgic as the next guy, but c'mon, enough with just the box. Show us the tires. Show us this fabulous body that's been recreated. Show us the decals. Frankly, a sealed box, even of a new kit, does not really move me to reach for my wallet. I like a nice box, but I'm buying the contents, not a 'Pretty Picture". -
How about the '53 Stude, just to be different?
-
Thanks, Mark. That helps.
