Atlantis "The Dragster" Monogram Reissue
stavanzer replied to TooOld's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks, Ken. Other than the Filled Blower Scoop, a nifty car. And that Blower Scoop is 5 minutes with an X-acto knife from being open! I can wait to see if Atlantis does more than re-pop the original decal sheet. If not, you can always use the extras from the Revell Slingster or AMT Double Drag kit. Both have huge decal sheets with lots of extras. Added. It will look great next to a Slingster kit. -
I meant 8 inches Away from (or too close to) the Diff. I saw the clone at the March Meets several years ago. Sadly I did not get pics.....

Matt, I thought that I had read some critiques online when this kit first dropped, that Revell had managed to find the only Landy on the planet with a roof mount spare? What I thought I read is similar to what you mentioned. The dang Tire/Wheel assy., is just too heavy to put up there. I can just see the fun trying to wrestle it down from there in real life, when you've just had a flat. Somebody has to be doing a resin copy of the ECSI/Italeri hood now to fit on the Revell kit.

Any up dates on the Moebius chevy II gasser ?
stavanzer replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
And, Truly, with Street Gasser kits so few in number on the shelves right now, Moebius has much of the market to themselves. I can see multiple sales just based on decal variations alone. Also, I'd wager a large sum of money on the fact that the kit will be tooled with optional Wheels, Induction Systems, and possibly other small parts to depict different cars. Not that we'll ever see all the parts in one box, but my guess is the tool itself will be set up to allow 3-4 versions of the kit. This has been Moebius's business plan in the past, and I doubt it has changed. In fact, Multiple kits out of One Tool could be the reason the kit finally got Greenlit anyway. Only time will tell, and as usual, we will hear much more of the backstory after the kits start selling to the general public, and those folks that know what happened will finally be able to tell what they know. Finding out what happened (behind the scenes), is now common, but only AFTER the kits are out and selling. I look forward to reading all about these kits next year.......after they've been steady sellers for 6 months. -
Great. I am now glad I sold the kit from my stash...... I'd have never even finished it.

Given how leaky those things are, I don't see them floating for long. So, I'd say "No" on your decal request. The Containers (and kits) are Probably on the Evergiven, anyways. LOL https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-57746424

I'd take it just the way it is, but I would prefer a stock Matador too.

Look at the Diff in that detail shot, Jon posted! Wow! To have 8" away from Da Jewels! Those old school drivers were braver than I ever was.......

Where can I get Ford 70s dog dishes?
stavanzer replied to randyc's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Randy, some of the Early 1980's Revell (not Monogram) Ford Pickup kits might be a help on the Bed Issue. Try Here. Chris has an excellent overview. Revell made at least one Flareside kit. Kit # 6411, but You'll be haunting the 'Bay to get one. -
Man, Greg, the frame I saw years ago looked to be made from Zamak (the stuff they cast Hot Wheel's bodies from) or something similar. It gets brittle as it ages sometimes, depending on the exact alloy. See. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamak I'd be afraid to do too much drilling on the stuff, but others may know better. My vote is for the Epoxy route, as it should be more forgiving of alignment errors at assembly. With that said, somebody who builds White Metal car kits should be able to give a better answer.

Thanks, Mike. I did not know about the Olson Bros, having IH parts.

Cooters wrecker

I really like the additional boom you added. Looks great! -
A Double Home Run, Chuck! When you set out to build a Show Stopper, Wow, you really deliver. I have the RoG kit, and the recent Italeri Fire Brigade version. I hope to combine them in the future. One niggle on the RoG Kit. Apparently the Aluminium body on the real thing is not strong enough to hold the spare tire on top of the cab as shown. RoG, used a 1 of 1, unique vehicle as their model. Thus, when I build mine, the spare will get moved to the back door.

Question about frames used for hot rods...
stavanzer replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Looks Great so far! I'd say you are on the right track. Some of the early rods where a collection of Castoffs, & Junkyard parts, bashed and welded together by 16-17-18 year old boys, who were highly motivated, but not always very experienced. They cut, bent, pounded, and in some cases, just botched together their cars. That said, it was always done with great enthusiasm. Have fun! -
Two Quick Questions. 1. I know there are tonnes of Small Block Blowers in kits. But, any favorites for the evergreen '55 Nomad Engine? What did you use? Did it fit well? What kit was it from.? I'm looking for a fast & dirty kitbash, but I'd like to avoid "too" many issues with fit. 2. The directions are confusing to me (at least) on how to assemble the front suspension for the Gasser Version. Does anybody have any good pics, drawings or tips on how to do it? Thank You, ATA

What I want to know is if a certain Finnish Modeler can fit this turbine into a '59 Chevrolet (Jetrolet) Ragtop.

The Grille is the real sticking point, Badly shaped and curved the wrong way. I have 4 of these. 2 of the hard tops (including one of the original yellow plastic ones) and two of the recent Round2 Roadsters. It is a nice kit, but no better than nice. If you like Jeeps, then this kit is a natural addition to the collection. If not, it is really kinda "meh". It does however provide a blank canvas for all kinds of projects. Rural Sherriff's Cruiser, Baywatch Style Beach Patrol, Fish & Game Warden, All Out Rock Crawler, Rust Bucket Beater. They are all in the box. I remember seeing a photo of a ProStock Scout at one of the Early NNL's. Good to have back.

Notice that most of the Police Gear is blocked on the chrome tree. An odd choice, IMHO. Still the Taxi Sign and Luggage on their own are a great addition. Like the Surf Boards and Racks from the '65 Chevelle Surf Wagon, we will see that little bit of tooling again. (Can you say '78 Monaco Taxi?) Still, this will sell a bunch of kits. There have not been any dedicated Taxi kits since the Johan '59 Rambler wagon, and Lindberg Dodge Caravan, and that was a long time ago for both kits. Are there any other 4 door cars in the MPC / AMT tooling bank that might be plausibly resurrected as a Taxi?

I really like the kit! On the subject of the box art........ Whatever Photoshop Jockey they are using, he needs to go. I know that the "Fringe" buyers (all of us on this board) will purchase multiples of this kit. But, Atlantis also sells in Hobby Lobby. "Carl Cardtable", is influenced far more by good art work. Sadly, This is not the box art you were looking for, to bend a quote. Michael Fischer is right. This is poor art. Atlantis has produced some decent art for the new kits. Look at the Unreal Roller and Groovy Grader. Much better. This kit and the '57 Caddy? Not so much. Given how truly awful the 1/48 scale '55 Chevy One Ton, was, this is an area where Atlantis should step up their Game.

So, Greg. Have your Tweezers Shown up? Don't leave us hanging. I've had tools disappear for years at a time. Extremely Frustrating.

Don't laugh - looking for input on those mini-cube "a/c" units
stavanzer replied to Monty's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
To add my 2 cents. Either a Swamp or an A/C needs to vent to the outside. Hot Air and/or Water have to leave the room the unit operates in. For spot Cooling, I'd choose a small portable A/C unit like the ones Pete linked to. The tiny units being advertised online right now, are simply "catch-penny-engines", designed to take your money and leave you with another piece of useless junk to clutter your garage. There are solutions to your problem. Bur sadly, they will not be as cheap or as easy as shown on the internet. But, it is a common problem, and there proven ways to handle it. As far as the Window A/C problem, I've lived with both the window unit & the portable stand type. The upright portables are much harder to live with. Tripping over them was the worst part. No matter where you put them, they will always be in the way. IMHO, the window is the way to go. Best of luck, Monty. It is good of you to offer to help.
