Any updates on the Moebius 72 Maverick?
stavanzer replied to GMP440's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for posting these! I'd seen the Boss 302 Mentioned, but did not know what it looked like. Are those Wire Mags, are 5 Spoke Mags? Maybe we can adapt the C Stripes from the recent '69 Ford Galaxie kit to the Maverick for the Boss 302 version. -
I knew a guy who would take a huge handful of Cap'n Crunch, shove it is his mouth and then take a swig of milk and chew..... He could eat half a box that way in 15 minutes... Truly Gross. And, he was in the Air Force!

I have difficulty paying for things online. I've got the money, just no way to pay. I'll NEVER use PayPal,and stick mostly to Postal Money Orders. That said, this forum is important enough to me that I will gladly figure out a way to pay to use it. Sounds like the Admin are thinking in the $25.00-$40.00 per year range.. I'll happily pay that. As far as changes to the Categories, Ace has the most thoughtful and well reasoned suggestions. I endorse his ideas as stated above, 100%. One thing, I do think. I know Admins have a tough job, but a little bit more policing the Posting of stuff in the wrong Topic, and moving it back to were it should have been, is needed.

This is what Grinds my Gears most! You know better! You have now reviewed and built many, many kits. This isn't Rocket Surgery....

72 Jeepster. Anyone know anything about this coming out.
stavanzer replied to lvfd221's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Um, A few Things. 427 Ford "Cammer" engine. The Neat Soft Top and Clever Surfboard Rack..... The Snow Plow... Note that except for the Plow, everything else shown on this boxart is in the the newest re-issues. The Bottoms Up Drag Car. Note that between Step 1, and step 4, there is no mention of the Gearbox/Final Drive unit that connects the Trans to the backwards rear axle. Just by using these directions, any MPC CJ5 Kit could be kit-bashed to the Wheelstander..... -
Welcome Aboard, Sir. I'm sorry about the Disability, but glad that you can still build Models. This is a great board to hang out on. Alan

I watch video kit reviews from about 25-30 YouTubers. Many are British, some American, and a few others Russian or Eastern European. One thing stands out about many of the car guys. The Tank and Airplane folks don't seem to fall into this trap the way many car Reviewers do. My Number 1 Peeve? The Yuck, Yuck, Yuck "Ah Shucks, Ah Never Seen no Models Before" persona that treats every kit they open as a Tabula Rasa, guessing what each part is on camera (wrongly in many cases), and generally acting like a Third Grader faced with House Blueprints. Is there some Facebook or YouTube algorithm that rewards this juvenile behavior? Many Prominent Reviewers do this, treating every kit they get as Brand New Thing with no history, or backstory, and no attempt to share those things with the viewer. Much of this activity could be stopped cold , by Reading the Instructions & Identifying Parts, before opening mouth and looking a fool on camera. I know these guys edit this stuff, but you would never know based how some of them talk about parts on the tree..... "is that a CHICKEN up there? No, no, it's just the way he's holding the grapefruit..." This kind of childish foolishness drives me mad! You, I don't expect a quick Ten Minute Review to identify every part, so saying just "These are engine accessories" is fine. They don't need to call out Starter, Coil, Oil Filter by name. But, the endless parade of "Is that a Bumper? No, it's a Seatback" or " Are those Hood Hinges? No, they're Shock Mounts" gets really tiresome. Look, You have edited the video. We can see the Jump Cuts. So, Fix the careless Part I.D Issues. Some of these guys are getting Free Kits from the Manufacturer. They have turned Pro! They are not doing Round2 or Revell any favors when they blather on mis-naming parts and generally slopping about with the reviews. If I'm giving kits away free to Online Folks to show case my newest kits, I want them to show me the respect of at least 'Pretending' to do a good job...... Rant over. ( The Peanut Gallery, says "About Time, too! ")

72 Jeepster. Anyone know anything about this coming out.

Well, the Autistic Modeler beat HPI guy to the punch on the '72 Jeepster. He does a decent review of the parts and thankfully does not drag out the build to over an hour! It has both sets of springs (Stock and Lifted) and a set of Oversized Chromed Wheels that have matching larger wheelbacks. So, all you need are the Larger sized Desert Dog tires to complete a lifted build. You do not get those Desert Dogs in the kit this time, only 4 Goodyear Suburbanites, for the stock builds. The decals look great to me, with a nice variety of choices. The long woodgrain trim pieces shown on the boxart are on the decal sheet. Almost all the other stuff from the Mount'n Goat kit is there, and you get all of the parts for both the Half-cab and the Longroof. Molding it in white will make painting much easier this time out. All in All, it looks great. Let's hope it sells well enough that Round2 will backdate the tooling next time around. -
Merging in traffic. If you can do it at In'n'Out or McDonalds you can do it on the freeway..... The Poor Driving from L.A. has taken root in the Central Valley.

Wow, That is a great looking build! I like it is red, and it sure has the 1970s-80s GM vibe on the grille. Good Show. -
Great Save! I like the Green Paint!

To get back to the Question. If you build Models, plastic kits are the standard for detail and easy of building. If you collect miniature cars, diecast (Bburago, Franklin Mint,Ect.) are the most common choice. There are some Metal Model Kits (Pocher is the most well known), that rival or exceed plastic kits in detail, but are very time consuming and difficult to build. There are a few Master Craftsman who produce tiny numbers of Museum Quality Cars every year. These are seen rarely and sell for many thousands of dollars. Speaking for myself only, the two hobbies, Model Building and Diecast Car collecting are two different hobbies. Related, but not the same. There is some overlap (the Hubley Metal Bodied Cars), but mostly I view them separately. I have no metal body kits, no tools for working metal, and no desire to build in metal, for the most part. Many of the techniques differ for building the two and I'm not ready to expand my skills in that direction right now. YMMV Good Luck!

To introduce myself.............( old fogey )

Welcome Aboard, James. There are some great Big Rig Builders here on the board. All are helpful with sharing ideas and tips. Jump in with both feet, and "Model On"! -
Most of the MPC kits have tooling similar to AMT kits of the same vintage. MPC lasted up to about 1988 or so. I find the MPC kits to be a little more delicate in the tooling than AMT kits, but it is mostly a matter of taste. MPC did kit some cars that AMT & Revell never did, so it depends on what you are wanting as to whose kit is better. Sometimes the MPC (or AMT, or Revell)kit is the only game in town for a particular car. Scalemates is a good place to check the history of a Car Kit. Ask lots of questions about a kit before you buy it. All of us here will try to help you get an idea of what you are looking at. Alan

AMT 1950 CHEVROLET 3100 PICKUP

A true Quality Build! Excellent craftsmanship, and detail. Your Build looks like the boxart exactly. Good Show. -
"Imaginary" Power Brakes on some kits
stavanzer replied to bandit1's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not having Brake Boosters on my kits drives me crazy... I mean every time I drive one, I worry that without a brake system, the car will never stop! Besides, getting the gas into the tank is so hard. Most of these cars have no top on the tank, Just a bottom, and no gas cap either. (sarc) And, I don't understand the Hate,Hate,Hate, for the older Monogram '56-'57 Chevy Kits. They look like what they are, have great building and engine options, and all this Mewling about misshapen Bodies is just so much effete noise by folks who are too good to build those kits. They are not perfect kits, and are products of their era. But they assemble well, look like the real cars, and were the gateway kits to thousands of plastic modelers who enjoy the Hobby today. -
Very, Very Clever Conversion of the kit. I like it! Good Show.

Boss 302 Maverick is something I would try to build. Sounds really Cool. Factory Sleeper.
