  1. Good work! Two-tone paint jobs ruled in the '50s. I haven't the courage to do a charcoal and pink yet.
  2. In Salt Lake City area, not only are we discriminated against by having to get tested, but they "encourage" people not to sit and idle for more than 30 seconds! Good government sense.
  3. There used to be an old hobby shop in downtown Denver, just off 16th Street, about 40 years ago. Bountiful, UT is just north of SLC and boasts a Hobbytown USA on 500 South, just off the interstate. Get on I-15 North and 500 South (that's the name of the street) in Bountiful is just up the road. Address: 416 W. 500 South. Phone: 801-294-9444. Good people work there.
  4. I just bought one yesterday at RETAIL! A previous post got me interested in this kit. I got it to have a fun build, not the normal pressure/realism/detail grind. Have fun with it.
  5. 2001 Corvette C5R Daytona winner. The rest are '60s & '70s. I'm old too.
  6. I learned to drive in a '59 Chev, but it didn't look as good as yours!
  7. I built a '64 back in the day. Typical AMT molded suspension and chassis. Good engine detail. It was a premium kit ($2.50!) and had provisions for working headlights. Typically, the Revell x-frame Chevys have really good chassis details, separate suspension and exhaust. Some have a separate frame, so the frame can be black and the underbody the actual color, just like the 1:1.
  8. Just remember: something is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.
  9. Gee guys, I didn't mean to kick over a hornet's nest. I certainly don't say that anything is good or bad, just because it's old. I'm a museum piece myself. We need to encourage the younger generation(s) to at least try our hobby to see how challenging and rewarding it is. My grandson is entering his first local contest with his first model this Saturday. My other grandson builds models from the thrift store (I can't seem to find any at mine). Our hobby may change some with passing generations, as most things do. But if we keep the flame of enthusiasm alive, we will be OK.
  10. Is it just me, or is our hobby populated mostly by old duffs like me? I look at the birthday list and I see mostly older (over 40) adults. I go to shows and I see few kids in attendance. Did most of us start model building in our teens and stayed with it or came back after an absence? I understand this is a problem for manufacturers in attracting the younger set. Kids today have a lot more distractions than we did. The kids want more current subjects, while I think the adults would want older cars ('50s - '70s) from our youth. Is it just me?
  11. I find it interesting that Smokey's gone and so is the garage and most of the hardware. We're still talking about him and trying to figure out what he was REALLY doing (or hiding). Like him or not, you have to admire his genius.
  12. Really good work! Mine is on a separate topic.
  13. I want to do a Rex White '62 Chevy NASCAR racer. What would be a good donor kit to start with?
  14. I once drove a '69 440 six-pack at my uncle's dealership. It scared the daylights out of me! Wonderful detail work, especially the engine.
  15. Well, you don't see that every day! I hope everyone appreciates the TV show these cars come from.
  16. No power steering, power brakes (drums were good for about two stops), padded dash (solid steel), seat belts, air bags and locking seat backs. There was AM radio and safety glass. It's a wonder anyone survived!
  17. Kowabunga! Ed Roth was one of my early heroes. I must look for this kit.
  18. Welcome to the forum. I also do primarily race cars, and specific ones for a particular day.
  19. I've not been able to find an answer to that. The race picture at Darlington shows white wheels, while the post-race picture shows black wheels. He was known to run different sponsors left vs. right side, as shown in the pictures. During the race: white wheels and Fisher Bros. Winners circle: black wheels and Jim Reed's Garage. Thanks all for the kind comments.
  20. Yes, not all dragsters were blown hemis!
  21. Good build! Not everyone has one of these.
  22. You may have to spend some time lowering the stance. At least I had to with mine.
