Is it just me, or did anyone else building the AMT '66 Nova have trouble fitting the drag slicks under the rear fender openings?
-
Many years ago, AMT made a combo Ferrari P4 and Porsche 907. The Ferrari has pretty good detail, the Porsche not so much. I still have the Ferrari. The P4 was the best looking of the beautiful Ferraris.

There is a lot to say for the "spec" cars used today: ease of manufacture and repair as well as easier for NASCAR to control. But I still miss the "stock" from stock cars.

You have inspired me to convert my "generic" Black Widow into Baker's. I prefer to do a specific racecar.

Love those MoPar hemis!

Always cool to build a model of a particular race car.

'new' model room

And I thought I had too many kits with 10. Your wife sounds like a good one; keep her. -
I notice in the "on the workbench" section that some builders apply decals prior to final assembly. I can understand that this can be easier than applying to the finished car. I seem to have a problem with over-handling the body and rubbing off the paint in small areas. What are everyone's thoughts on when to apply decals?

Cutting out numbers from a sheet
Lizard Racing replied to TomZ's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If the number goes on the radiator, photocopy your number onto regular paper and cut out the numerals to make a stencil. Tape the stencil in position and use the dry-brush technique to paint the numbers. Thus, the paint will only be on the top fins of the radiator. Just like they did in the day. -
Car engine quiz.

The only one I missed was the octane question. Trick question! -
This is a rebuild of an AMT Allison Monte Carlo kit from the '70s. I added Plastic Performance Products window net, wheels and tires (better looking than the kit parts) and Yesterday's decals. This is the car that brought Chevrolet back to victory lane in NASCAR. Chevy had not won a major race in 10 years.

I'm building a Jim Reed '59. What are you going to do about the interior? There are very few photos showing interior details.

Murphy's Law As Applied To Modeling
Lizard Racing replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's an old 1:1 car rule: Any tool or part dropped on the ground will automatically roll to the exact center of the car. If it hits the ground at all. Usually when looking for something around the house, I usually find it looking for something else. Ain't life fun? -
I think there were three different fonts used to duplicate the signage. Considerable effort went in to using a similar look and the proper size. M/T couldn't just use regular fonts. Notice his name is the largest. Below is the image I used to print the decal. Anyone please fee to use it. If you need the Word document, I can e-mail it to you. 3 3 3 3 OWNER …M/T Mickey Thompson OWNER …M/T Mickey Thompson Junior Johnson Junior Johnson OWNER…M/TMickey Thompson OWNER…M/TMickey Thompson graphics.docx graphics.docx

Words/Phrases You're Sick Of Hearing?
Lizard Racing replied to Snake45's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
People who interview themselves: Am I sick of this? Yes, I am. -
I just finished my Mystery Motor Corvette. The Hot Rod article gave me the fever to do one. Some in-progress pix are in the workbench forum. My model with one of the few period photos. The engine, which is the whole point of the project.

Studebaker was never afraid to break new ground. Great model!

Multibrand Dealerships in 50s and 60s
Lizard Racing replied to JRB53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I worked at my uncle's dealership one summer in 1968. He sold Dodge, Chrysler (I think), Fiat, Peugeot and Renault. This was in the middle of the muscle-car era. My favorite was the 440 Six-Pack. -
1953 Chevrolet Bel Air. Something to do during the holliday.

Great model work and photography! One would think that's a picture of a 1:1 car. Which is the point. -
Here is an underhood shot. I had to scratch-build a distributor to add the plug wires. The oil hoses in the kit were a bit hard to work with, so I used Detail Master hoses.

How many people fully detail a model?
Lizard Racing replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have to be careful not to get obsessive with detailing. What is observed is most important. I have a lot of admiration for guys who do a lot of detailing. It's way beyond my skill level. -
I finally finished one! This is the Revell BRE Datsun 240Z kit. It is pretty much OOB, except for engine detailing and lowering the car. Others have noted there are some fitment issues, which i did encounter. I don't remember any issues from the ones I did in the '70s.

Snake45: You are right, the Revell '67 would be a better chassis. However the Revelle '67 in my stash is going to be the DX Corvette campaigned at Daytona and Midwest division SCCA. I saw this car at an SCCA National in '67.
