Oops... forgot to mention. I’m going to order the bare rally wheels from eBay and once I get them and paint them them, I’ll compare them to the 69 Camaro rallys inmy earlier pic and make a final decision. I THINK it will be the bare rallys that win.

Those look amazing!!! I love the black paint on the wheel center. I read your thread earlier today and I think it said you’re isn’t wheels from an AMT 69 Chevelle?? If so, they were white plastic... the rims look like perfect chrome. Great job!!! And, are those the kit tires or AMT redlines? They look bigger than the kit tires.

Got a little done... started on the engine, assembling and drilling out holes for spark plug wires and hoses. Also tried something. I laid down embossing powder for the carpet, but stopped about 1/8 inch from the end of the floor. Then I used a chrome pen to make an edge. It may not be seen, but I hope that when the door panels are glued in, it will just be seen enough to be the ends of the Body by Fisher door sills. We’ll see...

I’ll see as I build the chassis what my clearance is, but the two completed builds of this that I’ve seen both used the kit tires, and those are wallowing inside the fender wells. I think that there will be plenty of room for the L tires up front, but I have a large supply of the F size if they don’t. I usually prefer to use the smaller in front/larger in back split to give the car a little muscle car presence, but the Fs look really small against the body of this car. All TBD at this point. The paint I used was a Duplicolor GM Light Blue Metallic. I used it on a 71 Cuda build, and really liked the color. I was surprised when I took my outside pictures at how much the color brightened in the sunlight. Then I started doing research for this build, and noticed it was nearly a dead ringer for Grotto Blue. It looks lighter in indoor light. This was my Cuda indoors vs in the sun... same paint I’m using:

I do really like the “clean” look without the black, although it isn’t proper SS. Something like this: Also, look at those short caps again!! But, I will keep mine authentic and have the black lower body. Since the short caps were 67 only, I will most likely buy the bare rallys, as other than the “pretty” blue, I want it to look all business.

That will be SWEET!! I’m saving the steelies and dog dishes for the 69 when it comes. With the rear body pieces around the taillights separate pieces, it’s set up for an easy conversion for a new release

I know... but looking at the blue one and the black one in the pics above, they just look GOOD. I’ll figure something out... either keep the wheels in my picture or maybe buy the resin bare rallys, which certainly look mean. I painted the body this morning... here’s my new dilemma. Left side: Right side: I haven’t taken the masking tape off of the left side, and I’m torn between the black lower body and having it all body color. I know the SS option meant the black lower panels, but I’ve seen enough of them that were solid that you must’ve been able to order without the black lower panels from the dealer. I can’t decide which I like better.

I’m OK with that inaccuracy. WL tires are a must for me with muscle cars. The car is all original except for a tire upgrade, like it’s a restoration rather than a brand new car. I think these are the size tires, but I’ll look at a couple other options for rears. Then I will most likely either remove the pad printed lettering and get some tire decals that stand out more or get a newer set of the L Polyglas GTs, as these are pretty faded.

Sweet... I’ve seen some resin short caps on eBay, but the only kits I’d seen them in were the AMT 67 Impala and the Revell 67 Chevelle. I’ve started doing a little work on this kit... today I did the “mass painting” of all the semi-gloss black, flat black and steel parts, and got primer on my body and chassis. Tonight I went ahead and shot the black on the lower body. These are my wheels at the moment, but I believe they will be changing. Finally, I painted my front and rear facias. I shot the front grill/headlight piece and the upper portion of the rear Dacia with the tail lights in some dull coat, as they didn’t look so bright chrome in my research photos. Then I painted in the grill, first using flat black and then going over the grill mesh with a black sharpie to give it some contrast from the holes. Then I painted thin black rings inside the headlight bezels. On the real car, there is a tiny gap between the end of the headlight and the trim, so I want to see if I can create that effect. Just a start....

Well, I didn’t think I would change my mind, but this thread did it. I was convinced I was going to do it in Cordovan Maroon, but you all convinced me to go back to my original idea, which was Grotto Blue. Still debating whether I will use the black body sills or not and potentially sand down some of the trim. Also picking between bare rallys and some nice resin deep dish short cap rallys. Thanks for the input everyone!!

I was finally to get to the hobby shop and get the new Revell 68 Chevelle on Friday. Now that I have it, I'm debating what to do with it. It will be stock, as everything I build is, but will get some small enhancements in the way of upgraded tires and wheels. I will still use stock wheels, but most likely either the better set of Chevy Rallys from one of the 69 Camaro kits or some bare rally wheels off of ebay. (leaning towards bare, but still debating) The skinny kit tires will be replaced as well. I also don't think at this point that I'll use the SS Stripes. Of the color options I'm considering, one of them will use the stripes, but I found in my research that overall, there's something about the stripes going across the front that make the headlights look slightly droopy vs when they aren't there. Maybe that's just me. I will take my time and add details as I go... this won't be a fast thread. But, while I have a strong inclination, I've been having a really tough time making an absolute final decision on colors. I THINK I made a decision this morning, but since it was so hard to come to a decision, I thought I might put the options out to the forum and see what input I get. I wanted to do something slightly different, and in researching found a few SS vehicles that had silver lower body paint (below the trim) rather than black. I've also thought about sanding the trim down and keeping the whole body one color... but these 4 are my top thoughts. Like I said, I finally made a decision this morning... I won't tell you which one of the four I've chosen... but will see if any input changes my mind. 1 Grotto Blue/white stripe/black interior 2. Silver (could be with or without the black lower body paint) with a red interior 3. Black, silver lower body, red interior (can't see in this pic, but this has that exact combo) 4. Cordovan Maroon, silver lower body, red or black interior (I realize this is a 69, but the pic is for the color combo) These stuck out to me... any preferences? Thanks!

2018 was a STRANGE year. Two jobs, tons of stress and family issues, some major changes, and a big two-week trip in the middle of it all. Things are stabilized as we go into 2019, and I’m happy to put this past year in the books. I didn’t think I’d do a year retrospective album... with all that was going on and launching into a big new job in October, I couldn’t really remember doing much this past year. But, I looked at my shelf today and lo and behold, I built a lot more than I thought I did. And two of them... my 69 Camaro Convertible and my year-long project to make something realistic out of the MPC 72 GTO are some of my best work. Those have a place of honor in my collection. This will also be my last year of this number of builds. I won’t have as much time, so I’ll focus on building fewer kits with more details. Anyway, Happy Holidays everyone and here’s to 2019!

Amazing work, Bogger!!!! This gets a place of honor on the shelf next to that Daytona. Like someone else mentioned, one of the best Mustang models I’ve ever seen.

I’ve certainly got a thing for 1st generation Camaros. I first built 2 of the Revell 67s, then an AMT 68, a Revell 69 COPO, and now I’ve completed one of a dual 69 project, which consists of a 69 Convertible and a 69 SS 396 coupe with a vinyl top. When I built the convertible, I was struck by thec decal sheet, with Z28 stripes, SS hockey stripes and even the D96 fender stripes, each in 2 mocolors. (Side note: since this sheet exists, WHY can’t Revell just drop it in all versions of the kit??) Anyway, the decal sheet inspired another build. I decided I wanted a plain 69 Camaro with the D96 stripes. I bought the age-old 69 Z28 RS, with the metallic blue box art. Of all of the versions Revell has put out, this one is the worst. The parts are all the same, but this one has a terrible decal sheet. It doesn’t even have gauge decals, and it’s the only one I’ve ever seen without those. No underhood decals either... Z28 stripes and license plates are it. I didn’t have parts to do anything with the engine, so the 302 cross-ram is in there, but everything else is garden variety standard Camaro. I wired the engine and used big and little Goodyear Polyglas GTs, as the rear was droopy and needed larger tires in back to level it off. The paint is Duplicolor Inferno Red. Sorry guys, I’m a little lost here. Both the 68 Charger and the 70 Mach 1 are not new... the Mach 1 is a few years older and mostly out of stock everywhere, but up until 6 months ago or so, I was still seeing a couple of them at my local hobby shop. The 68 Charger has been out for 8 years and I still see it everywhere.. heck, there’s a whole row of them at Hobby Lobby down the street. Both good kits, but not new in any way. It was the 69 Charger that had the vinyl top molded in, btw... not the 68. Pics of the kits: Anyway, nice kits... I’ve built the 68 Charger 3 times, but these aren’t big news releases or anything.

I know!!! But the ones up front are standard depth and the ones in the rear are actually Kelsey Hayes NASCAR wheels. I couldn’t put the deep ones up front and the shallow ones in back.

I built the AMT 68 Road Runner a couple years ago.... it wasn’t my best work, and it was an awful kit. The chassis just fell out of the body when you picked it up, the usual old casting problems were all there, lack of detail, and everyone who has built it knows about the terrible taillights. It was the kit that was stuck at the back of the shelf where no one would see it, and the chassis fell out of the body and broke when we moved to St. Louis two years ago. I tossed it in the garbage and didn’t think twice. Well, since Round 2 re-released the 69 GTX, I figured maybe it could replace the RR and put that generation of MOPAR back on my shelf, as I always liked them. This is a weird kit... lots of drag parts, including a short rear axle and big wheel backs to hold some serious slicks, but no extra tires... only the pad printed redlines. They have all the Dirty Donny decals and extra logos, but don’t have basics like dash gauges. There’s both a Hemi with both cross-ram and normal dual quad setups, and a 440 with either 4-barrel or six pack options, but the intake manifold for the 4-barrel is way to small to cover the top of the block, rendering it useless. When I used the kit air cleaner as instructed, it was too tall to put the hood on, so I found another six-pack air cleaner in the parts bin. I will say most everything else fit together well, and while extremely similar, came together much better than the Road Runner. Lots of flashing to deal with, but that’s par for the course with these reissues. I was going to paint it frost green, as I’m going to purchase that paint for my 69 Camaro SS, but I’m starting a new job and it might be a month or so before I can afford to go purchase paint for a build... wanting to get this done, I went another direction. Having already done the interior in dark green, I chose a Duplicolor gunmetal that I had lying around, as that seemed like a possible combination. I liked the red pinstripe trim and hood vents in the reference pictures I saw, so I added that to my build as well. Wired the engine, added a couple vacuum hoses, and used some parts box wheels and tires. It’s still not the greatest kit, but I’m happy with the results and glad to have this generation B-body on the shelf. Hope you like it and thanks for looking. Haven’t been able to do much lately... life got crazy on me... but I finished a project the other day, and while finishing it, got a chance to improve a couple old builds. I got the reissue of the Revell 66 GTO, and shortly thereafter, picked up the reissue of the AMT 69 GTX. I’m just starting on the GTX, but it ended up lending its pad printed Redline tires to the GTO. I had trouble coming up with a color for my Goat, figuring out an interior before an exterior color. I painted my interior ivory instead of white, then used an automotive pearl coat over it to give a little vinyl metallic sheen. I decided to go with a black exterior at first, but strangely, my Duplicolor black finish came out far more uneven than usual. I polished it out and thought it was good to go, but then my clear bubbled and curdled, so I had to strip it. In the stripping process, my primer refused to give way, leaving me to scrape the remnants off, and in the process, I gouged the right side of the body pretty badly. Black would have shown the damage too clearly, so I needed a different color. I ended up using my Mercedes B300 blue, as it was in the neighborhood of Charcoal Blue, a 66 GTO color. i used the stock wheels and the GTX’s redlines. I wired the engine, but the body issues kept me from going all out on details. Also, my rear wheels aren’t level, the interior wouldn’t fit into the body properly, the front bumper wouldn’t line up... lots of issues I didn’t expect from this kit. In the end, it’s NOT my best, but it’s on the shelf. While finishing the GTO, I pulled one of my two 70 Monte Carlos out and decided to repaint it. I painted it with Testors Root Beer, and used Monogram 1/24 skinny muscle car tires that the kit wheels could actually fully fit into. Finally, I redid my Revell 67 Chevelle for the third time. It started out gray with a red interior. Then I repainted the body silver with a black vinyl top. I changed wheels and tires 5 or 6 times, but I just wasn’t happy with it. This time, I tried Tahoe Turquoise with a two tone cream/tan interior. The other big key was using the tires from the 70 Monte Carlo along with the unpainted Chevy Rally wheels from the AMT 69 Chevelle, which I painted black. I’m finally happy with this build!
