Tamiya Primers, Liquid vs Aerosol
STYRENE-SURFER replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ive had the same results as bluenote. Also with Mr. Surfacer 1000, both thinned with Mr. color Lacquer thinner. About 2 to 1. I don't particularly care for the thickness of the bottled Tamiya surface primer so use it thinned 1 to 1, and then only on VERY small imperfections. The fact that it is a Lacquer based product and shrinks a lot and can be negatively effected by top coats has left me looking for alternatives. -
Dust string on enamel paint
STYRENE-SURFER replied to gpal's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
All good advice above. being that you have used enamel, best to give it time to gas off (dry) before attempting anything. with enamel that can be some time depending on your environment. Temps and humidity. -
Looking good JC .

How bout some "Pere Ubu"

One band I can think of is "Big Star"; Alex,Chris,Jody and Andy, what a perfect pop group. Any Nick Drake fans here? Another one who changed my listening experience. Heres an old Nick Drake tribute concert that might be interesting.

Good one John, well remember that tune. I understand how this inter web stuff happens, but wouldn't it be helpfull to at least see adds relevant to the subject here? Again, I get how the internet works (kinda) and can understand how some might be getting weird adverts from foreign dating sites and such. LOL just scroll thru it.

"tealbird" ?

Watched 'em all... Especially liked the Cheetah history, and that vintage slot car box is very cool. Like the content and the way you explain things. Well done. One idea, perhaps some tighter close ups on those soldering and construction parts. Over all?... fun, enthusiastic, informative and well produced. Keep it up.

Looking good Karl. Headers are fantastic. Realy nice to see these old "odd" drag racers come to life in styrene. I'm a fanatic for different, unusual drag cars from back in the day.

Painting chassis question
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Daniel, that effect looks great. I lived around boats as a kid and can remember most fiberglas ones had that treatment on the inside. JC and Tim thank you also. This is giving me something to think about? -
I had this on cassette and my car deck ate it after too many plays! LOL! Mike patton from Faith No More/Mr. Bungle? ...check out what he has done with John Zorn. https://youtu.be/0PdCgGF4sgM If you like search you tube for (John Zorn Live Poland.) Amazing concert from 2013 for those who like a challenge... Beauty & chaos. Can't think of top albums from my youth but I was glued to "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" and "The Midnight Special".

Painting chassis question
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, you can see some body color towards the rear interior and possibly the inside door skins. very hard to make out from black and white photos but there are a few color pics Ive found. That said, I'm just going to build as fantasy car to simplify things. Single brake pedal, rather than dual. Blown FE engine (manifold being easier to scratch build). Trying to think of a viable livery for it, possibly keeping the Hayward Ford Dealership sponsorship with the dark red color like this Fairlane. -
I should have said "interesting" rather than weird. The center cap/cover especially , anyone know what type of wheels those are?

Painting chassis question
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Dave, I have some Stynalrez bought a couple of years ago and have only test sprayed it also a good selection of Tamiya acrylics. I really need to just take the time to get the hang of acrylics thru an airbrush. My build has taken some twists and turns, now it will have a blown engine and be more of an match race type car? no longer the Souza brother's (not enough documentation to do it correctly anyway). Oh and that dang Algon injection. -
Painting chassis question
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanx all, for the suggestions. I'm afraid that photo was not the best one to use for this query. I just shot this pic hopefully showing better what my plan was. the separate cross members etc I was planning on painting separately and gluing in after the basic chassis/sheetmetal were complete. I'm afraid showing all that other mocked up business probably not the best way to ask the question clearly? Snake, is that splatter paint Finnish something achievable with an airbrush? -
Just asking for some advise, at some point I am going to get some paint on this project. have been trying to plan ahead but perhaps made the dumb decision to glue the frame to the interior tub. Seemed like a good idea at the time because of its fragility. My plan is for a semi gloss black frame with aluminum tub/interior panels. as typical of drag cars like this from the period. historically Ive had bad luck with taping silver paint and having it remove with the tape. I normally use Lacquers like Alclad for Aluminum. Thinking the taping would be much more possible spraying silver first then the black frame. Any ideas would be welcome.

Todays mock up. Still not too crazy about the bucket seat, small I think. Next the throttle/gas pedal. -
Nice clean build. I Googled the car and looks like it was ever changing throughout its history. Something weird about those kit front wheels though?

STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
A few more parts made this week. Have to tell you I had a little problem while cleaning some parts. I had used some Lacquer based fill on some seems so long ago and forgot. Soaked them in some Isopropyl without thinking correctly. Well that set me back and frustrated the heck out me. back at it now. Firewall suport frame with steering/brake master cylinder and pedal support. Scratch built pedal assembly and reworked Polar Lights funny car brake cylinder. Thanks for help on that bit (other thread) ? -
Paul, Daniel, Mike and Rusty... Thanks so much. I was thinking the brake line must exit from the opposite end of the cylinder. Those holes on the side of the brake cylinder body had me confused? They must be for alternative mounting situations. Thanks for taking the time to answer, especially adding pictures showing whats what?

Yup, also very good coverage of the Boeing 737MAX debacle (You won't believe how twisted the MEDIA have dealt with this one) as well as cause and effect of those California wild fires last year. He also has some fun with his channel, Reno short take off and land drag races being one. PS, remember when every civil aircraft incident in the news was referred to as being an Piper Cub? things haven't changed that much.
