Greg, what type of Evercoat do you prefer? I once ordered that Tamiya stuff from Japan but received one tube of hardener and another tube of dried up solid polyester, it was unusable.?? -

In my geographical situation (Boise ID) I feel fairly safe. Only one reported case of the virus. but if necessary have a getaway available up north. could stand to spend some time up there anyway. unfortunately no way to work on models at the cabin. -
Tim... Where did you get that giant pair of tweezers to hold that full size oil sump pump?

In Australia, where the first Formula 1 race of 2020 is to take place.? Teem McLaren has withdrawn already. -
Great information being shared here. One thing I have tried is using soft jewelry wire to mock up and get the fit inside the body. This is cheap stuff from Hobby Lobby or Michael's that I have cut into short lengths and rolled/straitened out between two kitchen cutting boards. After trial attempts you can get a handle on final hight ,width, Etc. Then use as patterns for bending your styrene rod or tube. You may still end up w/a pile of bent rejects. LOL Mike K. Try using milliput for fixing joints. less messy than micro balloons and can be smoothed out perfectly with some H2O.

The High Cost of the Hobby
STYRENE-SURFER replied to Nitrobarry's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Joe... I'll just have to take your word on that. LOL car modeling is considereably cheaper than my other hobbies. If you consider the time/hours involved that is different. Just another part of the equation. -
Cover versions of well-known songs

The Modern lovers originaly recorded "Roadrunner" in 1972. Jonathan Richman has always been great.......................................................................................................... But then in the early eighties, around came the "Jazz Butcher". A totally fun, tight, entertaining group that ya kinda had to see to appreciate. (I wish I could find a copy of "Bath In Bacon/Scandal In Bohemia", you Butcher fans will know what I'm talking about.) Here Goes; Jazz Butcher, Roadrunner. (my favorite version) fast, crass and loud! -
Debbie Downer was back as well. Being unfamiliar with the musical guest artist I was left confused. ?

Mr. Linear L7 compressor thoughts.
STYRENE-SURFER replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Brian, that little compressor has about the same specs as the kind used by face make up artist. w/possibly re-branding and packaging,I don't know that for sure. But it would be working constantly if you are spraying at near its max output. For good even output a compressor with a tank is IMO the best way to go. More constant pressure w/out the pulses from the pump. A regulator lets you dial down the PSI so there is really no problem having way more than you will actually use. -

They are quiet, 59db or so. And have the higher PSI. CFM, just a thought ? Dang iPad will not let me link that. California Air Tools CAT-1P1060S -

That's a lot of bread man. for that $ I think there are better choices. that is if you are paying the dinero's I just saw with a quick google. I have a Super Silent 50, but just checked pricing and they have gone up allmost 50% sense I got it. Have heard relatively good things a bout California Air. -
Great tutorial JC, ? Ive been searching for a good set of (non-tapered) round files for making fish mouth joints. Found this set,(haven't ordered them) the largest one being 1.5mm. or .059" which is pretty close to that Evergreen rod. Still looking around for a set w/larger diameters.

another use for Elmer's glue?
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Here is a situation where I needed to locate/pin some parts, so they can be accurately assembled after paint. The two cross members here I plan on gluing in after they are painted. This to hopefully make masking easier. All parts are temporarily mocked up in this pic. cross members glued in w/Elmer's glue. I used a light source and from the interior side marked exactly where I wanted to drill the holes for the pins. I set up a pin vise for the drill size and a short piece of evergreen tube to be used to set the depth. The other one chucked w/the actual rod I chose to use and also set to the depth for checking my work. (This extra step isn't really that necessary). Then proceeded to drill the holes for the pins through the interior tub and partially into the cross members that are being held on by the Elmer's glue. When I was sure that all the pin placement holes where deep enough I released all the mocked up parts w/water and cleaned things up. This technique can be modified many ways, you can choose the hole placement first then attach the corresponding part temporally to get the drilled hole exactly where you want. Or you can do it like I have here which I could not have done with pre painted parts (using light to show thru to establish pin locations) Keep in mind that it makes things easier to use common sizes on all your pinning because these will need to be most likely reamed out after any paint during final assembly ? -
Guy, no fair sneaking in pictures of the actual car. Ha Ha ? In all seriousness, studying your pics I see a great amount of scratch building. That is a work of art! of one of the most beautiful Go and Show drag cars of all time. IMO Q; Is all that chrome Alclad or did you send parts out to be plated? Again, superior build.
