I bought a bum roll too a while ago. It was the very narrow tape designed to curve etc - wouldn't stick to anything for love nor money. I did notice that it was not made of the same material as the regular tape. This tape seemed as if it were made of plastic? for want of a better word. It's the only Tamiya tape that I've ever had problems with.

If you're decanting not too sure why would you need to thin it. It's ready to go from the can so it should be ready to go after you decant or am I missing something? I've decanted. 1. I let it sit 24 hours to off gas. 2. Make sure that your straw to nozzle connection is well sealed - putty worked for me. 3. Decant only what you'll be using in say the next week or so. I decanted a full can of Tamiya primer and a year later the pigment had solidified at the bottom of the jar - rock hard it was. ☹️ 4. I strongly suggest doing this outside so that if there are any "accidents" the damage is minimized. 5. Don't leave your decanted paint in the hot sun.

Well whatever they were/are they seem to be really close to the Ferrari red and seem to have held up really well too.

I've used Scalecoat. It has a strong smell and you will need to use it outside. You'll also need rubber gloves, maybe a respirator and perhaps a stiff bristle bush for anything stubborn. Worked great on the vintage kits that I was working on and never harmed the plastic. To that end, you might be better served to try to get the ELO from the source mentioned above.

Great question. I'm working on the Aurora Alfred E Neuman model kit. The base has the wavy wood grain channels inscribed right into the plastic. Can anyone provide suggestions on how to get a realistic wood finish? In other words, the wood grain trenches are already inscribed into the plastic. How should I go about applying paint to the base without clogging said trenches and make it look realistic? Thanks!

I don't know anything about this type of oil paint but can you just run a brush over it and have it spread properly? Would it not have to be thinned?

I hear what you're saying re cost BUT if you use a substandard product, all things being equal, you're likely to get a substandard result. If your grandsons look at a "meh" finished product there reaction is likely to be the same - "meh". If however, you show them an eye popping finished product, chances are good that you'll peak their interest. Bottom line - it's often best to buy the best products because they yield the best results.

Agreed. Some research and a few dry runs should have been in order. They made it look as if, in the case of the Californian, they're just throwing an unknown substance at the wall to see whether or not it sticks. It makes me wonder who gave the go ahead to allow this to air.

Testors made "CheZoom Teal Pearl" in a 3 oz spray can - now discontinued I believe. Pactra makes (made?) "Chezoom Teal" - polycarbonate - for RC cars. I have no idea whether this type of paint can be used on styrene but I have no doubt that others know...
