  1. Oh Ezra is definitely a nut. But his book is an interesting read. I'm with you on sending our oil and gas out of country. It makes no sense that we produce a ton of it, yet sell it to other countries for less that we sell it to ourselves. Makes zero sense to me. My job is based on trucks and vehicles, so I stay very aware of fuel costs and economy. And it's becoming more and more of a concern for my customers. And economy is always a concern when I'm choosing what to drive. Northern Alberta is a whole different world. Come a little further south, and we care about nature almost as much as BC! That's my previous truck hanging out in Jasper on a trip to see some clients the day before Christmas.
  2. To be a little nit picky, there is no tar in the oilsands. Big difference between tarsands and oilsands. On a somewhat related note, if the whole oil debate interests you, read the book "Ethical Oil" by Ezra Levant. I don't usually wade into politics or anything like that, but the book is pretty interesting.
  3. Well, I've officially started this one. Haven't done much, but I have done something. Got the body pieces out, cut them from the sprues, sanded them smooth and test fit everything. The cab seems to be slightly warped, but when I put the rear cab wall in place, everything pretty much straightened out. I think once the interior is in place and everything is glued together, there should be no problems.
  4. Frustrating. My new truck (2016 Nissan Titan XD Platinum) does not come with the Howard channels as part of the included satellite trial. So it looks like I'm on a Howard break until the trial runs out and I start paying again.
  5. Our gas is 66.9c/L. That would be 66 cents per litre. By my math, that's about $2.49 per gallon. And this is the cheapest it's been here for over 10 years. Last summer, gas hovered around $1.10/L (about $4.16/gal). Diesel is at 72.9/L, only cost me $51 to fill the truck this morning. Diesel normally over a buck a litre. Frustrating that gas is so much cheaper down south. The best part of this is that the refineries are literally a 10 minute drive from where I'm sitting right now. Forget exporting our fuel and oil. We should be closing the pipes and roads to the borders and stockpiling for ourselves. Or at the very least, we crank up the costs for the other countries we sell to.
  6. Loved it! The X-Files has been my fav show since it debuted back in the early 90s. I've been waiting for this return for years! I enjoyed the premiere. Thought the story line was perfect. It dove right back in, bringing back the mythology of the black oil, the alien baby thefts/experiments, the Cigarette Smoking Man. Forget pandering to anyone watching for the first time, this one was for the fans. And I loved it. I hope the ratings are strong enough over the 6 episodes that they decide to bring it back permanently.
  7. Porsche engine. So you're building a panel version of the B32. Sort of. I approve 100%. I used to have a 1985 T3 Doka. Did a TDI swap in it. Miss that truck.
  8. I have a Lonestar kit in the stash, so now curious to fine out just how awful those instructions are! After I'm done this one of course.
  9. Really?! I've never seen it around here. Will have to try to find that for sure!
  10. I use rattle cans. I always seem to get a good finish. Lots of light coats, a clearcoat top, and some polishing, and they look fine. I have an airbrush, but it's too much work. Takes the fun out of the hobby. I'll only ever use it for Alclad.
  11. Whoa! X3 for the Transit. I wonder if the Diablo and Countach are the old ESCI kits as well. I have all of those in the stash.
  12. I thought I did! I knew about the game, but had no idea there would be half an hour of post-game recap. And until the kiddies are in bed at 9, I'm not watching tv. Would rather be occupied with them. Had a mean game of Star Wars Trivial Pursuit on the go.
  13. Seriously?! I am truly excited about that. I built the red version back in the 80s. Found the original Ford promo kit at a car boot sale while in England. It rolled off the shelf one time too many and eventually got tossed. Then when I got back in the hobby, I started missing all of the old kits that I tossed. Found out that one is particularly rare. A couple of years ago, I found the white Canon version. Mint, and not ridiculously expensive. Been trying to get more, but those on EBay are asking in excess of $200 for them. Which I feel is insane. Can't wait to find the reissue!
  14. What irked me? I'm still annoyed by angry about last night's television. Been waiting for years now for the return of The X-Files. Been my fav show since it debuted, been pining for it ever since it left the air. So we set the DVR last night, ready to sit down and watch after the kiddies were in bed. And what ended up recording? The first 30 minutes was a break down post-game summary of some frakking NFL football game. I'm in Canada, watching a Canadian channel, and I have to sit through 30 minutes of bozos talking about two teams giving their all, and filling 30 minutes with sports cliches. Didn't even bother watching the last 30 minutes. Now I have to wait until Friday, when the X-Files premier is being run on a different channel. Screw Fox Sports, and screw football. I want my X-Files.
  15. I haven't forgotten about this! As per the rules, I'm updating this. Haven't started the truck yet, but I plan to soon. I'm actually pretty excited about doing this, as I haven't done a truck kit since grade 5 or 6...mid-80s.
  16. That is fantastic! Would love to see your take on a matching VW bus!
  17. You know...in thinking about it, I'd just like to find all the old ESCI tooling and reissue those kits. Ford Transit, Mercedes G-Wagen, BMW M1, etc. That and a Vector W2. ALthough I believe that is being worked on.
  18. That weathering is awesome! But I think it needs some dents.
  19. Google Bozuko cars. Those wacky Japanese love this kind of stuff. Should see the outrageous body kits they make for their cars.
  20. Got a bit of rough paint work done on two of the engines. Still haven't started the Cabrio engine yet. Will have that going this weekend. Should also be able to get some interior work done. Hopefully. I've picked a couple of House of Kolor colours for these cars. Will pick that up and have it ready for when the cold weather finally goes away and I can start airbrushing and spraying again. As before, Turquoise with grey interior for the Cabrio, Dark blue with tan interior for the Rabbit. I actually googled racing stripes on Rabbits, and have found a couple of options that weren't bad. I may put stripes on it as my boy suggested. Maybe.
  21. Those are the project guitars. Two Roland G707, and an old Fender HM Strat. I really need to organize out there. lolz.
  22. Thanks for the tips Jim! I noticed when test fitting the hood, it seemed a little tight, def need to trim around the hinges to loosen it up. I spent from around 1991 until 2005 working for a VW/Porsche dealer. Those have been my automotive passions since long before that, so you're going to see a number of VW and Porsche builds from me. Got started on engines last night. The white engine is the stock engine from the Rabbit kit, the green-ish one is a 16V from Clearly Scale. It'll be going in the Rabbit. And I'll probably order up another for the Golf Cabrio. The detail and quality of the Clearly Scale engine is fantastic. The engine are just partially assembled in the pic. A little filling and sanding on the white one, but nowhere near ready for paint yet. The Cabrio is going to end up Turquoise, as per little princess. Not sure what interior colour will be, probably a light grey of some kind. In talking with the boy, the Rabbit will end up a dark metallic blue of some kind; Porsche Midnight Blue maybe. With a tan interior. The boy wants white racing stripes on the car. I don't think I'm going there.
  23. I figured a thread like this must be around here somewhere! I just picked up the truck yesterday. 2016 Nissan Titan XD Platinum 4X4. Yes, with the Cummins diesel. Only the daily commute so far, but I have an 800km roadtrip tomorrow, so that should be a good break in and chance to get used to it. I'm hunting for a project that grabs my attention right now. Most of my previous toys have been watercooled VW, so that's probably what I'll end up with. Here's the last VW I had. 1993 Passat VR6. Manual transmission, Kinetic turbo kit, AC delete, coilovers, Porsche wheels/brakes, Borla exhaust, C2 engine management. Car was crazy fast, top of the roof racks was the same height as the top of the bed on an F150. SOld it right after I blew the head gasket on a track day.
  24. Nope. You're wrong. lolz. When it comes to guitar gear, there can never be too much! Stompboxes, multi-effects, replacement pickups...never enough!
  25. Well, thanks to the combo of not having a heater in my garage yet, and a typical Canadian winter, all of my current builds are on hold at the "needs paint" stage. So it's time to start a new project. Two actually. Building Revell's VW Rabbit and Revell of Germany's VW Golf Cabriolet. Definite similarities between the kits, in terms of details and parts. As you might guess. Both are going to be modified, but final details aren't worked out yet. I have a bunch of pieces from Jeremy at Clearly Scale which look fantastic. Not sure abotu colours yet, but my daughter says I need to paint one of them turquoise. I'll probably get my boy to pick the other colour. Not many pics yet, as I literally just started this last night.
