eModelCars.com Updates and Changes
crispy replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gregg, I'm a huge proponent of your site. I love using it and have been successful using it as well. The upgrades look great. The site looks clean and up to date. A few niggles I ran across and I know you are working on them. Not receiving any emails at all. Paid for a featured listing that still isn't showing up. I'm sure once you get through the updates things will get back to normal. These are the only two things I can see right now. Thanks for sparing some time on the site. I was very happy to see the site is now at 806 registered users. Approximately 190 items on sale. Chris -
Advice on using/polishing a pearl color

Not at all Steve, I think it enhances it even more. Good Luck and let us know how you did! Chris -
Advice on using/polishing a pearl color
crispy replied to Merkur XR4Ti's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Steve, since pearls are pretty delicate and suspended in the paint at various points polishing the pearl moves it around or simply takes it away. If you are able to get a nice smooth paint job I would just move onto clear coat making sure you cover enough to polish it out. Your pearl shouldn't have that silvery or mottled look then. Pearls and metallic paints have to be treated a bit different than your average pigment color. Good Luck! Chris -
Had a great time at the show. Saw some old friends and made a couple new ones. I placed third with my MB SL63 AMG . Show numbers were up this year as well. 33 modelers and 126 models I believe. Here are a few pictures of the show with more at the link. Chris All 207 pictures HERE

Peter, Absolutely magnificent. The work, detail and finish are near perfect. Quite the system you have. Glad to have read and looked at all. Thanks for sharing your art with us! Chris

Thanks guys! Bob, yes, I did pre-fitments all the way through. You are exactly right in your assessment of that tab not seated. I wrestled with it and it snapped in and now she sits sooo much better. I now will share some outdoor shots I took of the car: Check out that drop on the front suspension now! YAY! IF you click my initial link you'll note I have taken 22 more photo's of the car outside. Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG Thanks again for the comments guys. Bob, thank you for the help throughout my journey on the car. Some stuff you mentioned to me really helped out. Chris

Thanks guys. This was my first actual Aoshima kit to build and I was very impressed. I utilized the springs in my suspension and figure if I had left them out I might get a little bit more ground hugging stance. Brian, as far as kit cost: Kit w/shipping $44.50 Wheel kit $10.00 Paint $12.00 Bill, I have to thank my wife on the scheme. I was very apprehensive about it all coming together. She did a great job figuring it out for me. I also had found a picture of a 500Sl with a similar interior and that helped too. That's about the cost of all materials there. I'd certainly recommend this kit to anyone that likes these cars. I hope we can see the Black Edition soon. Chris

What a great kit by Aoshima. My only harangue is the chassis and body mating. The front just doesn't seem to want to stay together. Other than that this kit was engineered very well and I really liked the way some assemblies when together. Especially the head and tail light areas. Aoshima Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG Scalefinishes Mercedes 799 Diamond White Aoshima 20" Leon Hardiritt Bugel wheels Interior is carbon fiber on console and door panels with Tamiya Dull Red and Testors Navy Aggressor gray interior. Couple pics of the final product. Will get outdoor shots later when it warms up. Then we can see the beautiful pearl pop! More MBSL63 AMG here. Chris

I'm with Curt here. Jameston has some really great stuff. I too spray right from the bottle. I use lacquer thinner to clean the brush afterward. I haven't needed to thin his paint to give you any idea of what to use. He's quick to ship (free shipping) and is very easy to work with. If you need a special color he will do all he can to get it for you. I can't say enough about the guy and his paint. It's almost all I use now. I've used Tamiya clear and his clear as well with no problems. Chris

Very nice! I really like the wheels on there. Adds to the flavor. Chris

Some great racing in the first hour already! Wish Speed would just keep it on for the 12 hrs. But, I suppose we need to watch NASCAR qualifying a 4th time, as well as more practice...... Streaming in 15minutes from the web while I work in the model room. Chris
-
Nice! That's one I'd like to get someday. Always liked it. Not sure why. You did a nice job. I like the wheel selection. What paint is that? Chris
-
More fantastic work. Really enjoy you showing us everything you are doing here as well as what you are using. Better modeling for everyone. Chris

F1 season is in full force!
crispy replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Red Bull racing is fun to watch. Sounds like the header design on this particular car didn't make it through as much durability testing as they wanted. First it was above then below. I'll bet we see something change there on both cars. Chris -
Most of my pearls I airbrush so they come as a tri stage paint. base/mid/clear. When it's pearl white it is a white base. Since the light will go through the pearl coat and reflect off the base coat. Here's a Mercedes I did with Tamiya white and pearl with pearl clear and then clear. I'm working on a SL63 Mercedes right now. I'm using Scalefinishes tri coat pearl and it looks great. Here it is without clear: Good Luck. Also remember you can't or shouldn't sand over the pearl. Do your best to keep it booger free. Chris

Forza Ferrari! Great race. Great color schemes and great racers. I hope that Ferrari can keep it going. Should be at the very least, entertaining to watch! Chris -
Fantastic work on that engine! Are you sure you want to install it in the kit?? Chris
