There was something on ABC7 about that, IIRC Jerry Taft said it was 1965 when that happened.

It is pretty wild here, I just made a quick run to Winfield and the winds were pretty strong.
-
That it is Harry, looks like the rest of the day should be pretty nice.
-
Looks like some sun is poking up to the West of home though!

You're not kidding Harry, the way the winds were blowing here in West Chicago, I was half expecting a twister to drop in the middle school field.

My '86 Ranger is finally getting worked on

Is it still at the same shop, or did you rescue it and find somebody willing to actually work on it? -
So is the 'rat rod' craze officially over?
Joe Handley replied to Mike_G's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Honestly, that's one of those things I just don't get. Why not make it look half way presentable if you're going to be putting that kind of time/money/effort to build something like that. -
How did you melt yours?

Sounds like it would make a good phantom Roadkill project car, I think they've only had a few cars on there that they could keep the hood on for the entire show........most of those were driven during a real winter or during the spring when snow started flying. -
Many years back, the Winfield, IL was using one or two of the 4dr Pontiac Grand Prix's from that version of the platform as well as the second generation Chrysler Concord sedans (why not the Intrepid, I have no clue), and even supposedly had a couple of the FWD Dodge Lancer Turbo Sedans. A few people who saw my Lebaron GTS (same car, different grill, tail lights, and badges) suddenly remembered those Lancers and seemed to kind of fear them too. They had been running Crown Vics last several years and just was a new Explorer with their graphics today.

remember the AMT "Iron Horse" Mustang?

Yup! -
With some of the industrial adheasives available now, the glue could be stronger than the shet metal of old everybody is getting misty eyed over.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe move them up enough so that top of the wheel opening is at the bottom of the character line and the top of the flare flows out of from the top part of the fender. Don't think that would hurt the lines of the car like having the nose sit 3-4 iches higher than the tail of the car. -
Can't even get people to act respectfully for non servicemen who've fallen, this isn't a shock either

For the money spent on those stupid looking wheels and tires, that could have been built into a decent looking little Bucket. Now it looks like it needs to be media blasted/primed and maybe painted, new frame, more appropriate engine (that would look good in a later style rod or street machine once cleaned up), different wheels, ect. I've seen better looking cars and trucks laying in the junkyards around here! -
What do you drive?
Joe Handley replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, as Roadkill stated, the 164 was the last, until the Dart, which is the upsized Gullietta, and the new Cherokee here is also based off that platform...........I believe the next Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger will also be based on that platform. Supposedly the current ones (my 200 included) share their basic platforms with the Mitsubishi Lancer and Hyundai Sonata, as well as the basic design of their 2.4l engines. -

I've always liked how those Alfa 159's looked, especially in black! -

Anybody else think that Shelby F100 looks..........poorly designed......not poorly built, just not good looking? -
Not your everyday Vega

While I'm not sure bout the mid motor, steering wheel, and SS badge on the grill, I think it looks good! The stretch looked decently done, the Corvair rear is a bit novel and could be a bit C5-C7 Vette like with vintage parts if they kept the engine up front stretched body/wb or not. Unless you crawl under it and find it heavily butchered to the point it's unsafe to do anything other than look at, I can't find anything wrong with it other than I wouldn't have the money for it or the place to put it if I wanted to buy it.
