Patina’d 34 Pick Up
mchook replied to OldNYJim's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Wow this is cool. I wish I could figure out the salt thing but I never seem to get it right. Great job, I can't wait to see it finished. -
My sister found the Fords for $1 each at a yard sale. The rest is from a friends mother who was cleaning out a storage trailer and found some of her sons old toys & models. He was a very good friend of mine and lost his life in a car accident a few years ago. She said I could have all the model stuff she finds and this is just the start. We built and traded models together from the early 80s on up until he passed. She's moving now and needs to get rid of it but it's hard. We will be getting into his old room soon & the attic. It's fun to see some of this old stuff but sad too.

This is going to be a great build. I like what you have so far. I can't wait to see your wrecker boom, I've built a few different styles over the years. I used some gears from ebay, I've have torn apart some cheap wind up toys and pull and go cars for the gears they both work and look fine to me. Here's some... -
My friend and I have a little HO dragstrip & it's lots of fun. I built this wheel stander just because I saw one on a youtube video and figured I'd try one. It worked great, not fast but fun to watch.

Do you know this 1:1 C cab???
mchook replied to Tijuanataxi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's a cool looking C cab. It reminds me of a tandem axle truck that was running around the car shows when I was younger. -

I couldn't say it any better. Stay strong & thanks for all your kind words, inspiration and great builds over the years. Don't be a stranger around here. -
I had this horrible Monogram 32 Ford kit & a bunch of left over Model A parts so this is what I came up with. I tried to sell the 32 kit for $7.00 on ebay & couldn't, so when I opened it I saw why.? Not much detail at all & the fenders had the chassis molded in it so I wasn't going to use it. But after looking at the parts I had I figured, why not. I shortened the chassis to make the cab & bed fit better & the bed is from an old early iron roadster pickup. It came out pretty good, Ill get some better pictures outside tomorrow, it's raining like a cow wizzing on a flat rock today.

Thanks, some of the orange is from the product & some is tamiya weathering powders. Yes, it goes on right over the paint.

GMC Tow Truck fuel tank?
mchook replied to Andrew D the Jolly Roger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup, right behind the seat & the gas cap is behind the drivers side door handle. I built this version years ago. -
Yellowstone is my favorite show right now. I don't watch alot of TV but I make sure that I catch Yellowstone & Animal Kingdom. My wife and I convinced my son to watch it and he loves it too. At first he didn't want to watch something with "cowboys & Indians" but we told him it's more like the cowboy mafia. It's hard to say who's going to live or die, they don't seem to have a hard time killing off main characters these days. If you haven't seen the show, give it a chance it's pretty good.

What is needed to build this?
mchook replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I did this one with the old monogram coupe body. I built my own chassis (first time) & it wasn't that hard. That way you get the length & drop you need. I can't wait to see you do the one in your picture, it's pretty cool looking. -

1929 Model A Ford wrecker
mchook replied to mchook's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks Juergen. I used "sophisticated finishes" rust paint and tamiya weathering powders for the rust. The rust holes are exactly the way you said, grind from the back until it's really thin then break out your hole. Here's a picture of the stuff I used on this truck for weathering, it's not alot of stuff but it all works well together. Thanks again and happy building!!! And thanks to everyone else too for all the great comments.
