  6. My experience with pewter (white metal? a few other terms for that?) parts is that they are cast and need a LOT of work to make them look good. It would be very interesting to see what those parts look like right out of the mold. That might temper some of the excitement. Small parts are very delicate to work with. There was a guy in the Pacific NW that made metal parts (I forget the company name now) and the parts were pretty rough and required a lot of finishing. My $.02 and worth both pennies.... -RRR

  8. Thanks, ADL. What I really don't like is the placement of the engine. Too high up and too close to the firewall and too far away from the radiator. Poor engineering on my part. Kinda ruined it for me.... I'm glad all of y'all like it, tho. -RRR
  9. Nice work on this old MPC (I presume) kit. I wonder if the mold still exists, I'd love to see it released again. From what I've read, that even though both Ford and Chevy built about a quarter of a million cars in 1932, the reason that Chevys didn't last is that they used a lot of wood in the framing and they became termite homes and/or rotted away and bodies fell apart. Fords, using more metal, held up better in the long term. -RRR

  11. The venerable Revell Henry J kit we (some of us old timers anyway) all know and love from our childhoods. Doors welded shut and fenders attached to the body. Rear wheel wells tubbed. Cammer from the parts box. Other bits and pieces from here and there. Paint is Testors Extreme Icy Blue. -RRR

  15. Looking good. Those tires from the Willys look right at home on the Nova. I was disappointed in the wheel and tire combo in that Nova kit. Lots of parts (already robbed some) in the Moebius Nova kit, tho... -RRR

  17. Thanks, Keith. Yes, I acquired a few sheets of checkerboard decals many years ago and they still work and lay down nicely. Thanks for the compliment. This build was inspired by a 1:1 car I saw at a show several months ago. -RRR
  18. Wow! That's awesome. This really brings back memories. In August of 1982, my then-girlfriend and I drove an orange 1974 Maverick (her car) as we moved from Boston to Seattle hauling everything we owned in a U-Haul trailer. Being a New England car, you can imagine the car was a rust bucket, but still operationally sound. We were so worried that the car wouldn't make it, that we stopped about every two hours or so and popped the hood to let the engine cool off. We literally drove 50 MPH (remember, the national speed limit then was 55 MPH) the whole way. The car had no A/C (common for cars in the northeast in those days). We had the wing windows cranked for a bit of a breeze! It took us a week, stopping with friends in Minneapolis for a day rest. At one point it was so hot, in North Dakota, we crashed at a dumpy motel during the day and drove at night. We made it, though! Thanks for posting! -RRR

  20. The valve covers are from some AMT version of the W motor, I picked them up on eBay. Here's what I found elsewhere here: You can get some 348/409 performance parts in these kits.The AMT old tool 57 Chevy has a S.c.O.T style blower with 4 carbs, headers and finned valve covers.The AMT 58 Impala has a tri-power intake, a Spalding Flame Trower magneto and headers.The AMT 62 Bel Air and Impala Convertible has a dual 4 bbl inline intake manifold, a dual 4 bbl cross ram intake manifold and offenhauser valve covers.The AMT 62 Bel Air Super Stock kits has a dual 4 bbl intake, tube headers and the Z-11 two piece intake manifold and air cleaner.The AMT original issue 63 Impala had a Hilborn style Fuel Injection, finned valve covers and Hedman Headers, unfortunately nothing of that is in the later issues.The AMT 64 Impala has a roots style blower with a two port injector and scoop, headers and finned valve covers.   21. Thanks! The rear wheels and tires are from the Boot Hill Express, same wheels and tires in the Lil Coffin kit. Front tires are from Modelhaus and the front wheels are from my parts stash, sorry, I'm not sure what kit. -RRR
