Here's my entry into the '27 Turtledck T sweepstakes. Flintstone body, scratch built frame, Modelhaus (RIP) wheels and tires, seats from RMCM, 409 from some kit, '32 shorty grille and shell from the Milner "American Graffiti" car, many parts chromed by ChromeTech. Some build-up pix here: http://public.fotki.com/jferren/1927-turtle-deck-t/ -RRR

ADL- it appears the split bone hangers are mounted to the outside of the frame on the 1:1 car. Are you going to leave your mounts on the inside of the frame? -RRR -
eBay screw-up
Rocking Rodney Rat replied to Rocking Rodney Rat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You guys are most likely correct. I changed the title of the thread to remove "fraud" and removed the sellers name. It now appears this item was never meant to be sold. There is no bar code on the back of the cardboard holder (can't get pic to load). There is a square where the bar code should be that says "BAR CODE GOES HERE". The paper is just standard old printer paper, not decal paper at all, thin and flimsy. The seller said the item was on the "discount table" at Hobby Lobby. No wonder, it shouldn't have been sold. Must be a 'sample' AMT would use to show potential resellers what the product will look like. How it ever got on the shelf and sold is a mystery. In any case, I'm mailing the whole thing to Round 2 with a letter. I'll most likely never hear back. I bit the bullet and ordered (what I hope is) a real set of these decals today.... -RRR -
eBay screw-up

So, heres a picture. Looks like a sheet of decals. I cut out a pair I was going to send to ADL for a pickup he is working on that he and chopped when I was out his way a few years ago...It's not a sheet of decals, it's a color photocopy. Strange... -RRR -
eBay screw-up
Rocking Rodney Rat replied to Rocking Rodney Rat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yeah, I have been communicating with the seller. He refunded me my money $5.25 including shipping, I guess if it sounds too good to be true it is. He claims he bought the item from Hobby Lobby and thinks it might have been a "demo" or "sample" set of decals that got put on the shelf in the store. I dunno about that.... -
I bought a set of AMT "rat rod" graphics from an eBay seller. I opened the package this morning to find it's actually just a photocopied sheet of paper of the decal set. I have sent a massage to this joker and am awaiting a reply. This is the first time I have ever had this happen on eBay. -RRR

It could have been alot worse for us in the southeast...lots of trees and branches down....our power was out for less than 24 hours, over half our county is still without. Here's some pix from around the neighborhood. -RRR

I've NEVER had a problem with DupliColor primer on any plastic kit (and I've built a few...) -RRR -
Thanks, we 're prepping and sweating. Good news today is that it appears Irma is not going to make a big Northerly swing up into Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. A couple of days ago it was looking like we would get a direct CAT4 hit (we may still, but looking less so now). We are still planning on plenty of rain and wind, a few days with out power (no more than four, please???). Stocked up with six 5-gallon cans of gas, (generator tested after being in a 'pickled' state for about 8 years, dropped the oil out of the float bowl and she fired up after about 5 pulls. Thank you Briggs and Stratton) a dozen 5-gallon bottled waters, Florida's finest Zephyrhills spring water (and filled 10 empties with tap water and a smidge of bleach) got lots of food, a case of beer, 1.75 ml of Tito's...extra propane tank...am I missing anything??? My sanity right now, it's been an intense week... -RRR

I have been using DupliColor Gray Filler #FP101 (available at your local auto parts store). Will cover anything and sands out nice. You can use the red version for undercoating red based overcoats. You won't be disappointed. As with all primers, don't apply it too heavy, as a 'filler' it will fill in details if apply too much in one coat. This paint is easy to apply in light coats. My $.02 and worth both pennies... -RRR -

I wonder if they ever paid Horace Silver for copping the piano riff in 'Rikki Don't Lose That Number' from this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWeXOm49kE0 ? -RRR -

K&R Kustoms+Rods "barn find" dry lakes belly tanker
Rocking Rodney Rat replied to Rocking Rodney Rat's topic in Model Cars
No I didn't take any pix of the painting/weathering process. It works like this: paint, primer (Duplicolor automotive primer), Testors enamel flat black on the frame, wheels and engine block Tamiya Italian Red, body and other parts Tamiya Silver. Carbs and exhaust painted in Testors Metalizer Titanium or Magnesium to give a bit of contrast...The weathering process, start with a flat black wash using the aforementioned enamel flat black thinned with paint thinner liberally applied with a #1 sized (fairly big) brush. Let that dry. Next up a wash of Rustall www.rustall.com (the #1 liquid jar is all I use) and finally a coating of Doc O'Brien's Weathering Powders http://www.micromark.com/Doc-ObrienS-Powders available from Micro-Mark. These jars literally contain different colors of fine dust. I used the 'dirty brown' color. Again, applied with a bigger sized brush (and smeared on with a finger in some places) to simulate the dry lakes dusty dirt. Fairly simple process actually... -RRR -
