Yeah, I know, I'm not 100% sold on the grille shell yet either, I have some ideas for a mod or two that might make it look a little better. I also plan to add '36 headlights down low on each side that will interrupt the "knight's helmet" look a bit. Here's a shot of the recessed firewall and trans/driveshaft tunnel. It all snugs together better than the pic would indicate.... -

Yes it is the Wynnsjammer chassis. It still has the rubber blower belt, crankcase, clear oil pan, blower blades (although you can't see them when the blower is assembled). It's one of my all time favorite engines and kits, I have a stockpile of parts. You can still find the Wymmjammer at online auction sites for sale. The frame is showing it's age now, the mold seems to be pretty worn out...the kit has recently been reissued as the Top Fuel HemiSphere dragster, (AMT #38483) the clear parts now molded in white. The display base is still in the kit, obviously the Garlits decals are not... -RRR

I haven't posted up progress pix on this one for a long time. Progress has been slow, motivation has been slight. I decided to use the AMT '33 five window coupe frame. I cut out all of the floorboards, cleaned it up, bobbed the rear rails and kicked them up. I added a tranny/driveshaft tunnel to the interior tub. Rear axle housing has been fabbed up, will be using a QC rear end with a Model T spring and a Model A spring perch. Last night I started '36ing the '33 hood... -RRR -
What's wrong with people that they won't support local businesses? I walked in to one of the only remaining hobby shop in the area (I live in a metropolitan with over 6 million people!!) and was immediately struck by bright orange SALE stickers on nearly everything in the store. Sure enough, I went up to the cashier (with my purchase) and she confirmed it. Going out of biz end of the month....jeez...an area of this size can't/won't support a full line hobby shop??? C'mon people... -RRR

I went to Hobby Lobby today to find lots of empty slots where boxed up model cars should be. I grabbed one of the recently issued MPC Tom McEwen 'Hot Wheels' rear engine dragster kits (using my 40% off coupon) and as I suspected it's a repop of the "Blue Streak' and 'Brute Force' kits minted in the '80s. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. They added a corrected blower scoop (original one still on the chrome tree), a fourth front wire wheel (without the weights), mid car wings and new rear wing supports. Those of you who are sticklers or accuracy will most likely be disappointed in the typical MPC lack of accuracy as compared to the 1:1 car...it's all 'parts' to me!!! -RRR

Displaying finished models
Rocking Rodney Rat replied to Dann Tier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bought an IKEA "bookcase" and ten extra glass shelves. I carefully (IKEA "wood" is more like cardboard) measured and drilled additional holes to fit in the glass. There is a little space for dust to creep in but not too much. I enjoy looking at my builds occasionally. -RRR -
So much for QC..... -RRR

Very well done, what did you use for the rust/weathering? -RRR

He's definitely NOT in a better place... -RRR

Bravo!! Very well done. I'd love to see more builds like this around here. All it needs is a number on the door and some light weathering. Check out these weathering powders from Micro-Mark: http://www.micromark.com/Doc-ObrienS-Powders -RRR

I'm not a huge fan of photo etched parts. I use PE seatbelt parts and wire looms and that's about it. For many parts, wire wheels, grilles, etc. PE parts lack depth and distract from the overall look. Just my opinion, if you like them and want to use 'em, go ahead! -RRR -
I'm not sure if I posted this before, if I have forgive me. It just seems appropriate given all the bad weather we've been having as of late...loosely based around the old AMT Don Garlits WynnsJammer kit. Most of the decals by Slixx...more pix here: http://public.fotki.com/jferren/digger-rail-with-fu/. -RRR
