(HRM) Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe
89AKurt replied to Venom's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
You could have fooled me! Really like your presentation, it could be a Powerpoint for a seminar, a very long one. I have 3 of the HRM engine kits. Don't be nervous, someone has to be the guinea pig, and we need the entertainment. ? -
Includes a taser.

I've been thinking of putting HONDA on the back of my Subie, just to confuse anyone trying to report "a black Japanese looking car, see Honda....". Oh yea, very important item to add to any retired race car! I've been thinking of a cooler, full of Red Bull. ? Uh, think I have you on that....... but that's a great addition and it will be seen when done. Imagineered the video screen for the telephoto video camera with infrared capability. Started life as a camera, it's the CCD that captures the photos you take. Started using the Scale Motorsport photo-etch. The white sheet plastic will be two gauges for the co-driver to monitor. That person will be very busy, monitoring the CB radio, scanner, camera, GPS map, rally light on/off, phone, get another Red Bull for the driver.

You had to remind me. ? Didn't make my 2021 list of projects.

It is a very scarce kit of ancient history, the trend for the mainstream model market is modern, current, or most popular subjects. In this case, the wire wheels being hand laced are models by themselves, I just had to stick the other parts together in a convincing fashion. Thank you!

I'm lusting after this one, totally illogical to get it (have "too many" other kits), so will watch this WIP!

Kits they never issued- but should have
89AKurt replied to Paul Payne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is one car that I always thought would be cool, extremely limited production, so don't expect Tamiya to create a kit. I have a Hot Wheels. Here is a 1/43 built model, so it started out as a kit. So what is the excuse for not creating a 1/24 scale version? -
Funny you ask, some still remains! Thank you very much!

Huge losses to the modeling community

I got to know Greg Nichols at a GSL. My video on YouTube: GSL-XVIII (#18 2001), start at 12:21. RIP -
Thank you for that input! Thank you. Only in French?

Going from (fading) memory, typical Tamiya snap fit, it can be undone. Start with fitting only the chassis into the body. The cross member behind the engine, it's like an angle iron, that's where the issue is. I deleted the a/c pump, irrelevant for this. The black Y member, getting it into the holes is the problem. I think taking a sanding stick or file to the cross member, on the engine side, will give some clearance. I had to take drastic action to clamp when gluing together. You can see where I boogered up the left pin mount hole. It's up to you to try this, drill those holes bigger, so there is leeway to slop the engine in. I punched aluminum washers to hide the mess, you could drill and then shape from plastic sheet. (ignore the intercooler piping) When I built the Paris-Dakar, the resin kit had a mediocre copy of the cross member. I cut it out, and made a new aluminum angle. Bottom line, lots of test fitting this area of the kit. Do it before installing the interior and glass. Hope this helps.

Looks like that engine package would fill the rear seat area without much effort. The front half of the interior with a firewall/window, back windows can be rolled down according to temperature. I would draw out both cars on sketch paper, basic blocks, floor plan and elevations (I draw house blueprints), then hold up to a window like it's a light table, and see how everything meshes. I have the major components that required scratch-building done, started painting the chassis. Going with murdered out black look. Screwed up the paint a little, might just give it a patina look, with rust decals from the '29 Model A Roadster kit, a different sort of camouflage than what the factory does for test mules.

Thank you. The videos are pretty good to hear the sound, in person is the best. I attended a Historics and Pebble Beach in the 1990s, amazing experience. I look at eBay for his products on occasion.

Not disagreeing. In the case with the Auto Union C, the book I got was good for reading, but no help for building the model. For the Audi Quattro S2, I splurged on a little book via Spot Model, it will be helpful. The reason I started this topic, was to find out if any books are worth it, since not every picture is found online. Thank you. I got the Auto Union book from Abe Books. I'm undecided which car to build. This FERRARI 250 GTO Anniversary Hardcover – January 24, 2017 looks like more than a bio about one or more cars, but covers an event. All in one package, vs. looking all over the internet, that's what I am evaluating.

bench seat burning

Got the exhaust pipe done. Moved the cat upward a bit, cut some of the kit pipe off, plugged into the middle of the cat, not the corner. Quick wet-sanded the body parts, then painted again. Added the chassis and door mirrors. Tried a little more thinner, and more volume with slightly higher pressure, trying to get less orange peel, but instead screwed up the paint. I just can't lay down a decent paint to save my life! ? So more wet-sanding, and leave it like it's sunburned, then add the fake rust decals that come in the Revell '29 Model A Roadster kit? I'm thinking that will be a good camouflage, like who would have a hot rod with a patina finish, on a Subaru?
-
Considered that one. There are some cheap books, but you get what you pay for.
-
Knowing what to expect helps, better than being surprised. Painting 5 colors on the seats is still an option.

Was thinking of getting a book about the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO. Several have been published, was checking out what is available. I'm surprised about the price of some, but this one is insane! And you need to know French. Anyone have one of the other books, to give a quick review or opinion about?

Impressed with the concept, and execution. I know you spent a few hours. The door operates like the Koenigsegg?
