During my research today, saw something about that engine. Since I'm staying with Box Stock, and wish to finish this, not going there! Yep, don't stack well at all! ? The way they're folded together, with tabs that grab the lid when opening, horrible design. In fact, the first thing I've done to commence construction, was cut the box! I checked out some websites, found this AMCAR guide: Chevrolet Aerovette Concept a good start. Notice the lack of door mirrors on the early version. I see discrepancies in colors as instructions show, so will correct as needed. I glued together sub-assemblies, have wet-sanded the body, will post pictures later.

Fixing the wide front of the Fujimi 917?

AGREED! I still draw house plans by the dinosaur method of graphite on velum. I've seen plenty of GIGO computer generated plans, the draftsman having no clue how things are built, with glaring mistakes. If I ever get around to building this, I'm more interested in making it look realistic, than obsessing over dimensions, unless the mistake is glaring. -
I've bought a few tools, mostly woodworking related. Decades ago HF was just a dumping ground for cheap Chinese knock-offs, was disappointed and didn't buy anything. Recently have picked up good enough tools. But the cross-cut saw with an American city name made in China with aluminum fence, toy quality. ? But for how little I will use it and the price, good enough.

Fixing the wide front of the Fujimi 917?

No kidding! I found that out with my Paris-Dakar 959. The top drawing, the two vertical stabilizers are not on the following car drawings, and notice the flare to the rear wheel arches. The angled steering wheel is good to know. I'm looking at lower two, the vent size on the front fender difference, curve of trailing edge above the engine, curve of the bottom of the windshield, makes me wonder..... Personally, I'm not going to stress about it, I just wanted the dang engine! -

Fixing the wide front of the Fujimi 917?

I acquired the Fijimi kit last year, along with photo-etch and the engine detail set. I've known about this issue with the body, and have wondered if it's that important. There is a Facebook - Porsche race cars group, some guys have built numerous models of the 917, so might be worth the time to check it out. -

I'm cringing while reading from the beginning, but looks like you have made it over the summit! Some projects just want all the attention. I'm not familiar with this kit, so look forward to watching it get done. Prolly too late to help, but I stole this chart awhile ago. -

Showing my age, when Candy-O came out I got the cassette tape, and wore it out! Great music. Also tempting to do a vignette of the Candy-O album cover, just need to find a model of a Ferrari 365 GTC/4 and scour Shapeways website for the figure. So many favorite musicians kicking the bucket lately, my favorite is Miley Cyrus. ?~cough~?

Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar - rode hard and hung up wet

Sorry, all I have done is make a display base. ? This does not qualify for the definition of a Diorama, otherwise I would post in the Diorama section (unless Admin suggests I do so). The IPMS has a definition of a diorama, and the Desert Scale Classic rules state a base should not be more than 2" beyond the model, which it does if the car was dead nuts centered. So it's just a display base. Wood came from a friend, some sort of exotic wood, the base is particle board so it shouldn't warp. I milled to shape on the table saw, with a ledge so I could put a glass box over it. Styrofoam cut with a hot-wire. After the glue set, I used the router with straight bit to cut down the edge, then used the Dremel to finalize the profile with a 45° angle. Sanded the frame, then applied Watco oil. Love that smell! ? First layer of Celluclay is applied. I add some Titebond glue for good measure. Used up my supply! Made wood tools, wheels for the tracks, a screed to make ripples, and a shaped stick for footprints. Found out Hobby Lobby does not carry Celluclay, but Michael's does, but that cost almost $30! ? Second layer has acrylic paint added. After drying in the pickup cab, I used hair spray to hold the Coral Pink Sand Dunes sand in place, several layers. (Funny thing, brand label says unscented, but 6th ingredient is perfume) Guess this will do. ? -

My older brother had one. Cool subject! I assume it's a large scale. -
