As Russell beat me to it, rules is rules. Besides that, the '56 is Oval window, the '60 has a slightly smaller but square back window than the '66. There are also inaccurate proportions with the Gunze kits, and the taillights are really off. I have the resin conversion, which is a copy of the Gunze body, which is modified to fit the Tamiya chassis. I should have looked into making resin copies of my '60. I have plans for the '56, parents had one prior this car.

Would you be interested in doing Coca-Cola and other soda drink decals? I wanted to produce resin coolers, had a request for Royal Crown, might as well add other brands to cover the bases. The decals I found a few years ago are missing "drink".

I have a feeling you like the VW Beetle! That a '66 like the Tamiya kit? The windshield looks smaller like an earlier year, but other windows are larger. Kit didn't have hood and lid latch handles? Kit have the engine? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just in the middle of a Bug project.

I have no idea. But my guess is acrylic paint, or house paint, not enamel because any movement will crack it. Now that I have the casting supplies, if I was to actually build these, would cast resin copies.

I'm going Bug crazy! Started with the Tamiya which is WIP now, I got the resin conversion for the oval window some time ago, then this not-tech, and today received the High-Tech of the '56 Beetle. Interesting how the High-Tech body has the emblems and trim shaved, metal for the strip trim, and the sought after photo-etch. The diecast engine has bad detail compared to the plastic. But same vinyl, clear, and chrome parts.

Would not be difficult to make fruit, thanks for the idea! My mom always laughs about the time they were on a trip, and she saw a fruit stand, slammed on the brakes and freaked my dad out from a nap. Someone offered me a Gunze Sangyo High-Tech kit so I could use the photo-etch "Volkswagen" emblem. That's why I am making copies of the Coke cooler. Thanks to this forum!

Only because I received another one, Gunze Sangyo is the Japanese version of AMT. They are the only kit of the Paris Dakar 959, which is a lousy rendition. I now have the High-Tech and not-tech of the '56 VW Beetle.

I heard about this decades ago. Yes, primer first. This project used pearl white. I recently noticed a fine crazing, so not sure if it's the nail 'polish' or the clear (forget what I used). Sorry for poor quality picture, I should take some new shots. This has held up well. One interesting thing, the windows have become tinted from UV rays. I built this in the 90s.

Since I have never bought one of either, I have no opinion. I forgot about Aoshima. The VW Beetle I got is lousy with the interior, otherwise decent average. The new Pagani and Lamborghinis are really nice, but I haven't built them. Looks like someone needs to start a new topic, just for the rivet counters, 1/25 ONLY OR YOU WILL BE SHOT FOR DARING TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT ANOTHER SCALE.

This is a loaded question, because it depends on the subject one prefers spending precious time on. It's also subjective, some cars are not available with other brands. But I will give a run-down, with comments: Tamiya: Almost always perfect engineering fit, not too many parts, recent kits have nice stick-on chrome emblems, and photo-etch optional parts. Always accurate bodies. Sometimes a drawback is curbside with no engine or opening doors and hoods. Fujimi: Great fit, more detail and in the case of the Enthusiast series almost too many parts. Bodies mostly accurate. But their curbside kits can be below average. Italeri: Generally average, flashing can be pronounced. Hasegawa: For Japanese, they are average, but depends on how old the kit is, and curbside or not. Bel: I have only the Audi Quattro, not built, but looks like above average quality. Monogram: I consider most of their kits a little above average. There are some neat cars in the 80s, but super simple curbside. Revell: Average depending on the kit, but sometimes detail is bad. Their 240Z glass is horrible (for example). AMT: I generally don't like their quality. The old kits can have a lousy fit, require more work to de-flash, too thick if the parts are supposed to be tiny. But I have a stack of them, because the subject is interesting for me, such as the '72 Chevy pickup which I have 4 now, and the '50 Chevy pickup is their best effort (IMHO) and I have built three and have a WIP (Canopy Express). Just because I owned a '48 5 window, a '69 long bed, and currently have a '68 robbing attention. IMC: No wonder they went out of business!

Little detail, but they all add up in the long run. Grocery sack, made from a real paper bag that is thin paper, patterned after a grocery sack. If memory serves me, sacks are a bit shorter nowadays, but who still has a bag from 1960 to prove me wrong? I'm adding this, because I remember ski trips when I was a kid, my mom baked Christmas cookies, and she brought food along because restaurants cost money and took time from the journey. Now I just need to fake the groceries.

I glued the paper in, using Woodland Scenics 'water effects' as glue because it's better than Elmers. Added the grab straps, and made a dome light. Added the last panel over the engine, bent it up so it covers the glass edge, and used a black pen and painted flat black on the tub edge because I had opened up the grill. Started putting stuff inside, those shoelaces need to be tucked in the boots! Looking at it like this, looks really rough. Just blur your focus.
