Info source for new import kits?
89AKurt replied to Ahajmano's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
DITTO! But 1969, that's the Glory Days. Start here, this should vacuum up all your disposable income. https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/car/ -
This seems appropriate

Even though I loath the NY Slimes, will say this opinion piece is worth a read. I used to ski, it simply got too expensive, and risk of breaking bones or dying helped make that a Glory Days hobby. I'm in the same boat! Maybe if we stopped making up stories, we would get something done. -

Model Car Kit Collection
89AKurt replied to Ahajmano's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Who said you have a "problem"? Think all of us have the problem of no time, and too many dreams. I see some guys have a problem not thinking out of the box, like 'Merican hot rods are the only subject to care about. Maybe the problem is not enough space, can understand that dilemma, this summer I moved my collection out of an attic storage, to a closet, then got a rolling store shelving unit which made it so cool. It's extremely subjective, and opinions are like ***holes.... This is only some of my stash, I just got the shelving from a store going out of business. -

I splurged lately, this order came from Australia. For some reason have wanted every version of Mercedes 170, already have 3 different MiniArt kits. Master Box Ltd. is a new brand to me, looks good with lots of tiny plastic parts and no photo-etch. Adding anything Ferrari that looks interesting, in this case tiny turned aluminum intake trumpets to go with whatever 250 GTO ever gets built, and chrome stick-on logos. I've made my own fire extinguishers before, now I don't have to (Lambo Miura really needs one). And a photo-etch bending tool.

Old school CAD: Cardboard Aided Design
89AKurt replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I watched the video, thank you for posting and creating this thread! I know this is how the Italian design firms built the classics I'm a fan of. I have not tackled a total design, but do use cardboard for mock-ups. Current project is a conversion of a resin conversion, a Canopy Express. I'm close to creating the plastic forms to make the vacuum-formed panels. It's all by eye, not really accurate and to hundredths of an inch/mm, but if it looks good, I'm happy, and that's all I care about. -
Good to know. But still thinking of getting the Tamiya kit, for comparison, and can't have enough Porsches.

The NSA is watching us too. Guess Zuckerturd was too busy worrying about "Fake News". Fakebook also does not seem able to spot those cute bimbos who want to friend me like every day, who have porn posted on their accounts. How hard can it be to identify URLs so scammers can't set up new accounts?

I *had to* get the Hasagawa Honda Civic CVCC (1975) because it was my first car, dad bought it new in 1977. This might be the first kit to hit the USA. I got the previous version RS (1974) when it first came out too, was contemplating how to make it a CVCC, then this was announced. Will need to make left-hand drive, and modify sidelights, bumpers, mirror to US specs, and scribe trunk into a hatchback. Was wondering if I should do an in-box review of these kits. The Porsche Turbo is not a curbside, box is dated 2018, so it must be a new kit (I built a slantnose curbside Fujimi, and have an Enthusiast series 911 Turbo in the box). Planning to do a Klein bicycle ad with this. After a few dozen other ideas.....

Looks good to me! I'm my worst critic too, and that's probably why I don't finish many projects. Saw my first one on the road a few days ago. They were driving the speed limit in the left lane the whole time. Nice looking car.

Your Favorite Top Gear Episodes or Segments?
89AKurt replied to Dentz's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I have watched only a few shows. The videography is exceptional on the later shows, that's primarily what I was impressed with. The reviews of the Lamborghini Setso Elemento and Porsche 918 were good. Now I need to set aside some time to do a proper review. -
I think the Off-Topic Lounge should stay.....
