Re: kit 4463. I like how Revell assumes everyone knows what the engine, and the carbs are, and I don't know what I'm doing or know anything about Fords. Building version B with the 3 carb setup. If I knew the carb brand and model #, I can search for pictures. If you have done the carb linkage, fuel line, please post pictures. I assume there is a system where there is a cable from the gas pedal to the engine, then there are linkage rods and photo-etch parts to drive me crazy with. Regarding the fuel pump, the kit has a non-stock looking fuel tank, I know my Chevy pickup has the fuel line going through a big hole, so is there an electric pump in there? Or is there a mechanical pump on the engine? All I really want to do is fab a clear glass bowl filter for the firewall, but need to be realistic about what is at each end. I also should know what the engine is, I know hot rodders put Chevy SB in, should be accurate on the firing order for the spark plug wires. Might as well ask about the transmission too. Looks like an automatic, only two pedals. Dare I ask about linkage from the shifter to the transmission?

when power boating

Thread title revised to reflect the major change in this project. Resumed construction last night. I'm sticking with keeping the body as is, the only change is opening the trunk. It seemed stupid to provide a fuel tank and battery, and then not be able to see that. The first task was to use the Tamiya scriber to cut out the lid, which used every micron of the blade, the body is super thick. I also filled the recess for the exhaust pipes over the axle, I'm going with a scratch-built system. Cut the tubs from the door panels, will be easier to paint the leather (kit comes with 2 choices of decals, which would take a bunch of Solva-Set, no thanks). Next was making the jambs. Used the hot wire to cut the styrene. Used sanding sticks to thin the edge of the lid. Something that bugged me, the gap at the firewall/floor. Glued sheet styrene to the floor to fill that gap. Made a bulkhead from sheet styrene, so the floor supports there instead of relying on the door panels. Had to fill another hole that bugged me. Made the hinge from guitar string. The aluminum tape is temporary. Used the Dremel with new bits I got recently, to recess the hinge pivots as close to the outside plane of the body as I dared. For once the first try was successful! At this point, the lid stayed up by itself, could have used magnets as a latch, but I don't like risking chipping the paint when opening, so worked on an operable latch...... But first I scrounged through my spring stash, and found this one that was scavenged from a dead electronic device. It's not realistic, but it works! The first latch design was a failure, came up with another design that uses guitar string. Something really small but important to me, was to fill the little divots for the tailpipes. Wanted to use the license plate as the latch button. This is not refined and glued together yet, but good enough for a whole Saturday of work.

If I live to be 300, might build most of them. Crude list shows 157 kits, not including engine detail kits, wheel/tire sets, etc. Have a cardboard box of kits going to the next swap meet/ model show, about a dozen not on the list, for each year that passes it will grow. Thought I got all the models that I wanted, but happened to find this Lamborghini Marzal. I got a Nakamura (extinct brand) Mercedes C-111 kit, it's really horrible and comes from the motorized era, so I'm wondering if this blows chunks too. It's a really odd show car, the seats are silvered leather, comes with baking sheets. ? I picked up an Airfix Maserati Boomerang a couple years ago, has a similar glass door design, and is an awful kit too, but it's so cool! Anyone have this kit, to confirm my suspicion?

The problem with working on a project in public view, is showing how stupid I can be. Due to lack of enthusiasm, with model building, and not even signing up for the show yet, I've decided to ditch this project like a boring date. It's stupid to be kit bashing 2 kits, just to enter one contest. And it's more than likely it would be disqualified because none of the body would be used. Someday I will do the Bungalow car, but with the other kit, that will save about 2 years of time. So if I finish this stillborn project, I need to come up with an idea for modifying the body in some way. Was thinking of stretching the cockpit, and perhaps a boattail. But I'm just not envisioning a design yet. Maybe simply opening the truck, so you can see the fuel tank and battery that the kit comes with, which you can't see when building box stock, that might be enough; adding a nitrous bottle will wow everyone.? Since this genre of cars isn't my forte, I'll be lucky to pull this one off. /end rant/

Action sports legend Ken Block, 55, dies in snowmobile accident I've been a fan, have watched how prolific his brand has expanded. What gets me about this, how he loved his family, and mentored his daughter. I first found out about this via my only daughter who shares my passion for the car culture. I've been more philosophical about this, than usual (which is almost never). We all know motorsports is a risky and deadly activity. How many times had he come close to death, driving a "cager" (what motorcycle riders call cars)? At least he died with his boots on, enjoying life to it's fullest. He is the epitome of the American dream, to follow your passion, to invent something new, and make a name for yourself. Think it's safe to say he was at the pinnacle of his career, his passion for Audi morphed into the factory building a special EV just for him, which he was able to demonstrate one time in his Las Vegas gymkhana video. He has inspired many to push the envelope of automotive performance, and helped mature the sub-sport of drifting into something that, admit it, many of wish we had done. RIP. Condolences to his large family of enthusiasts in his organization.

Thank you. That is a good suggestion. I tend to look at the whole project, have to when custom building, which tends to become overwhelming. I took a look at some other models to start on, some of the military kits with teeny tiny photo-etch and tiny parts, what was I thinking? Thanks. It's the prototype DFS-194 that led to the Komet.
