Freaking outstanding! Sure helps to know how to paint. I like that you used dark and light background. The wire wheels, you scraped the mold lines off, or you actually made each spoke smaller?

Thank you! Hope you are staying cool. Now that I took glamor shots, I really am done. Oh shoot, something else should be fixed......... -
Thank you! Took "studio" glamor shots today, outside in the shade under various cloudy sky, with a thunderstorm in the distance so I had to work fast just in case. ? Start off with open hood/trunk and closeup shots. Random view shots. Hardtop or not shots. License disappearing act, sort of required for doing the Cannonball. Keep the shiny side up shots. While I was taking pictures, a Javalina trotted through the yard.

I'm to the point of wanting to avoid modern cars with carbon-fiber, so kudos for taking on this project. The aero on these cars is crazy! Great job on it. -
When those were new, thought they were super cool. Congrats on getting it done! Monogram did some decent kits, your comment about the sunroof should help anyone in the future, scrape down the edge for clearance. Came out nice.

Killer build! I don't have the patience to do such a shiny paintjob. Should have an Arizona plate since we are the copper state. ? Gumball Rally is one of my favorite movies too.

Awesome! Been forever since I watched a show, don't remember the green Charger, love the weathering on that. Also like the air horns, a detail missing from almost all kits is the horn.

1961 Mercedes Benz 190SL - Revell with a few modifications
89AKurt replied to 89AKurt's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Now I am finished! I need to quit touching this!!!!!! ? Didn't bother taking pictures of the paint process for the top, same as the car. Carbon-fiber on the inside of the top. No way am I going to do a modern car body with decals, I'm always impressed with guys who can do a good job. This particular sheet tended to break apart, but at least it conformed to shape. I don't see that Scale Motorsport decal solution works, still prefer Solvaset. The aluminum tabs are to keep the window in place when I glue it. Used Testors canopy glue not only for the window, but also the tonneau cover. Gotta do what I could to keep the top down for the glue to set, and the nice thing about using this glue, can clean off the body any excess. Though the window has huge gaps, not going to obsess about it. I wet-sanded and polished the top. Glad I corrected the shape of the roof. Added bug splats, so it is now officially done. But that fender spear trim is bugging me..... -
Jabbed my hand with the Xacto knife. Haven't done that for decades!

2008 when the economy spazed and the election turned me off, I took my TV out for target practice. I recently stayed at a hotel, had something like 100 channels to pick from, and found NOTHING to watch other than Star Wars rerun. Wasn't into going to movies until I had a girlfriend, so saw some comic-come-to-life films, but almost nothing I would have chosen to go to on my own. Otherwise, can chose to watch what and when online, it's nice, but doesn't happen often because I'm more into wasting time on forums and FB, gotta be interactive instead of couch potato activity. What irks me about TV is all the stupid ads, some channels more time than what the freaking show is.

I think all entries should have a radar detector, just sayin'. ? I'm not really done, I jumped the start. Couldn't leave the hardtop in the box, hope to finish by Sunday night. -
1961 Mercedes Benz 190SL - Revell with a few modifications
89AKurt replied to 89AKurt's topic in WIP: Model Cars
? Thank you, that's one reason I picked this for a project. Progressed on painting the top, decided to stay with blue, will do carbon-fiber on the inside. Happy enough with the profile correction. To avoid rushing that even more, made the radar detector. Instead of doing another Valentine like my Subaru, searched online for the most popular choice nowadays, and something relatively easy in shape. Uniden R3 Laser/Radar Detector, couldn't find dimensions other than the box it comes in, so eyeballed the size. Here are the tools used, the Dremel not included was used to cut the wire. Cordless drill used to size the diameter of the black sprue, for the suction cup. One of the few things brush painted. Thought I better add the wire! And no I wasn't going to paint the display, it is OFF! ? I better not handle the top until tomorrow, the Splash paint does cure quick, it's been in the pickup cab, but that's 3 coats. Going to risk wet-sanding and polishing (I kind of hate doing this process, invites screw ups), and then Bare-Metal foil. -

1961 Mercedes Benz 190SL - Revell with a few modifications

Thank you! I printed a bunch, can mail you some. ? Sure hope this is worth the effort. Erich inspired me to make the tonneau cover, used wine bottle foil. It will be glued to the top after painting. Second application of Tamiya putty, I was jonesing to paint it tonight, but *had to* fiddle with it. Window opening was sanded to thin the drip rail profile. -

That's really slick, I have no clue what the original kit looks like, but can spot the details. -
Only because I live in AZ, love the Monument Valley region, and there are Chevies involved, I'll watch from the peanut gallery. I would be more interested in seeing the landscape where they are filming it. Because I haven't had a TV since 2008 (I sure don't miss all the ads, and after staying at a hotel recently I see there is nothing worth watching), won't watch it unless it's online later. Everyone knows this straight, tell me if they go there.

1961 Mercedes Benz 190SL - Revell with a few modifications
89AKurt replied to 89AKurt's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I see you are relatively new to the forum, welcome! You did a fine job on yours, I like the tonneau cover, that should have been a part. Thank you for posting those pictures. I'm now in the can't-leave-well-enough-alone stage, worse than normal. I cut down the sun visors, but still hits the steering wheel. I'm cringing over the top of the windshield frame, am having thoughts of cutting off the whole windshield and making a Porsche Speedster style. Instead of such a drastic modification after the paint is done, I'm going to finish the hardtop. I didn't find many pictures of the hardtop, and noticed something different between these two cars. The grey one, looks like they set the top on the car and didn't clamp it down? Look how flush the white one sits on the car. Also the top window trim difference. I don't care to become an expert on these cars, since I don't own a real one, so let's start on what bugged me about this part..... The profile behind the drip rail, it looks squashed in. It shows up from above, can't find pictures from this angle, but here you can see it looks a little fatter in that area. Applied some Tamiya epoxy putty, using water and the steel handle to roll it out. I expect to need some of the regular putty to flush out. If this is enough to correct it, then I'll work on reducing the side window trim. Then decide what color, or update it with carbon-fiber decal to see if I can work with those decals, and if not I'm getting rid of some kits such as the Setso Elemento and Porsche GT1 with full c-f decal set!
