Crazy C - following your postings on Britmodeler - great stuff - thanks for crossing the Atlantic - do you have this - very good feature - mite be helpful …
Therefore the bonnett behind the wheel well is about 3/16s short - which is why Ace and I need some renshape …. Now once this change is made I’ll probably lose the scale correct wheelbase - but the plus is that the engine comparent will look better - and the bonnett will look correct - its the best we can do until someone sits down at a computer and draws a correct Daytona for 3D printing [any takers?]
Here’s what went wrong
the Bradford HRM Daytona body appears to have mastered based upon drawings published in 1964 in the English Model Cars magazine - these drawings were generally good - but the artist often did not have detailed measurments - so mistakes were made … the wheelbase was correct but the body measurments differ from those done by an architect who measured 2287 - since the body length is too long on the Model Cars drawings - the bonnett got short shifted to come up with the right wheelbase …
Most of the missing length will be added between the trailing edge of the bonnett and the wheel opening …. And i mite need to add a little shape to the nose - maybe … peice if cake …
The model gods are never satisfied …. The reason that the hood blister is too short is that the bonnett is about 3 to 4 inches too short - so there is more to fix …
When compared to drawings and the acme casting - the windshield and roof are much different - and the acme casting seems to Have more accurate fender lines - needs some more investigation - maybe the best thing to do is build a GTO chassis / engine to nail down the bonnett location of the hood and the depth of the windshield …
Barn find -
sort of - this is a 24th scale series II Ferrari GTO produced as a slot kit in the seventies …. Ebay pricing is very high …. Not sure its worth it - don’t think the lines are accurate …
An architect - jeremy Mauro - posted an excellent 3 view drawing of the Simeone 2287 on his website - with measurements …. The changes that i need To make are drawn in pen …
This is a shot of the opening on the bonnett of 2287 that I took at the Simeone several years ago - when the car was brought for some exercise … again - this car is the most original Daytone Coupe - but it had gone through dozens of changes in its competition life - so I’ve got to make this change too - its a change - not really a correction ..
I have been watching the entries with great interest. I'd like to participate. Is there a Cobra available? That woul be easiest as I don't have many Sebring cars of that year. Now, in 1/43 I may be able to find more.
So Ive got a better fit for the bonnet with the body And i can turn my attn to the rivets on the surface of the nose - still scratching my head on the hood bulge for the carbs - think that the shape on 2287 is a bit different than what I’ve got here …
