  1. First I sawed one Weber apart from the casting … the master clearly had a lot detail …
  2. Tears notwithstanding - this is a shot of the carbs on the Spyder Corsa ….
  3. Any threaders own an Alps printer ? Mr Guthmiller needs some engine bay stickers …
  4. Actually - this really cries out for a 3D printed Weber 40DCL carburetor. - Just sayin …
  5. Carb quandary: The Barchetta used 3 Weber Down-draft carburetors - this was also standard for the Spyder Corsas and the early 166 Formula II cars …. The UMI kit part began with masters for the carbs which were obviously intricate and very accurate - their source will probably remain a mystery - but the casting was not very precise - a lot of the carb detail was lost - I’m going to cut the castings in to three parts and see how much of the intricate detail I can recover - and I carved a groove into the casting so that the individual carbs can be slid into the cylinder head when I’m done - this will also open space in the top of the block for the plugs - the engine had “center” plugs - entering the cyl head inside rather than outside of the cyl head -
  6. Added the cap nut housings at the ends of the valve cover and added the cover for the timing chain case at the front - that was sawed off of the Reps and Mins valve cover - it has some very intricate bolt detail that would be very difficult to make … and used a diamond bur to open the hole at the back of the block and the valve cover - that’s for the magneto support base …
  7. Can you make up some engine bay stickers - or does anyone make them ? Nice door locks … white vinyl - was virtually impossible to clean white vinyl tops on the one- to-ones - believe me …
  8. Marked and drilled holes for .031 alu tube - RB Motion’s smallest cap nuts will fit into the tubing - more sanding and filing …
  9. Time for the valve covers - the early Colombo engines did not have ribs across the center - in fact the first bunch didn’t even have badging - but the Barchettas had a small badge - the bolt pattern was the same - but the housings don’t stand away from the profile of the casting much … and the profile of the casting is a little different …
  10. Very nice - out of kuriosity- how long did the resin last before “aging” ??
  11. Worked really well send these photos to Mr Indycals - Michael Potrero …
  12. The GTO engine has what appears to be an oil pump at the bottom of the engine cover - but the early Colombo 12s did not have this feature - the bottom of the casting is ribbed - so I removed the pump housing and added the ribs with strips of .010 x .030 Evergreen strip … the Early engines also had what appears to be a housing at the forward end of the crankshaft bearing that mite be used to start the engine - not sure - the Barchetta has a starter - but maybe some early race engines did not …
  13. Clean clean clean did you hit the louvers with a technical pen - or what ?
  14. Another change from the GTO engine - the exhausts - the GTO engine exhaust castings from the Reps and Mins engine is great - with the correct 6 into 2 arrangement - but the UMI castings have the correct 6 into 1 pattern found on the Barchetta and the other early Colombo 12s - these are white metal castings - which will accept a limited amount of bending …
  15. The photo of the Barchetta engine bay that I posted 3 weeks ago shows the magnetos - the plug wires feed into the cap in a group - different than the mags on the GTO engine - so I decapitated the mag castings that were so carefully made for the GTO engine kit (sorry, Norman) - and remade the mags …. Bits and pieces of Evergreen ….
  16. model Car World paint ?? im a fan, too ..
  17. Thanks V. Studying the drawings. It occurs to me that I mite be able to wrap the electric wire in thin strips of Parafilm - then paint the wrap black with a sharpie - anybody tried that ?
  18. Don’t try your luck on a last paint coat - if you have another problem - you don’t have enough paint to correct it - on to the clear coat … looks great anyway ..
  19. I’ll post a photo of a Revival P3 that I built 30 ish years ago …
  20. This is a follow to Gramps posting of some models built by a fellow modeler - the Western 24 sc white metal kits are rare finds - the Maserati 250F kit is gettable - but eBay postings are sometimes too $$$ …. Same for the Ferrari GTO Kit …. The Alfa 158 kit was produced some time in the early 80’s - and appears to have had only a brief run in Western’s kit production - which is a shame - because now that I’ve obtained one , I can testify that It is The best kit in Western’s range of Grand Prix kits - with the caveat that i have yet to see first hand the Mercedes GP kit … these rarely show up at auction - post me if you see one and you want to consider price - I think I paid “fair market” - whatever that actually means …. now I’ll have to build it - which of course ruins its kit value …. Oh well - don’t tell the Mrs …
  21. May the eBay gods smile upon thee … and pray that the USPS keeps working - at least intermittently …. This just arrived in the mail …
  22. The test shots were criticized for a number of faults - some worse than others - but my convertible kit is fine - the coupe appeared to have issues with the windshield height / contour - haven’t gotten the coupe yet but based on what’s in the convertible kit - I wouldn’t be afraid to get one …
  23. I’ve not done business w Upscale - but check Model Roundup’s site - I got mine from them about ten days ago - got the convertible - but they had stocks of the coupe also - just in case - by the way - I think the kit did turn out pretty good - but the wheels are a disappointment …
