(HRM) Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe
absmiami replied to Venom's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Well played J6. my photo 2 has a bracket behind the tire that appears to serve no purpose - but with your picture we now know it’s purpose - it would have held the left fr jack on this car - which was removed when ? Dr Simione would probably know - but I don’t live in Philly - I would want to know if the Simione car ran the Salt Lake trial with jacks …. Hmmm -
Have another look at the gas tank …. Are you tempted to grind off the Chrysler stamping on the surface of the tank … ??

Those mysterious couplings. Agree that probably operate air jacks - not sure - do not know if the other Daytona coupes had them - anyone else know ? -

I would think that the tray made for a better - more efficient - engine bay - the Simione prefers to limit its use of “new” components on its cars - so if the tray was AWOL when the collection obtained the car - this by the way is a fascinating story of its own - they would abstain from making a new one …. If I recall - this car has in-period tires ! That’s pretty neat - but you won’t see 2287 on a race track … -

Correct. It’s the Simione …. Rev’s does not have a Daytona - which is actually surprising - gotta keep my museums straight - the Mona Lisa is in the Louve - right ? -
And we're getting a Grand Prix race in Miami in May - 25 miles from my back porch dollars to donuts the new track is nowhere near as nice as the new and improved Zandvoort ... And I can't wait to see what the ticket prices will be .... will probably still be cheaper to fly to Montreal and go to the Canadian GP ! or Austin !! Oh - and don't worry - if you would like some COVID - we'll still have plenty left in Miami in May '22 - rant over ....

some more shots from the Brumos Collection I'm constantly complaining about my home State but Flori-dah does have two of the best collections of historic racing cars in North America - the Revs in Naples and Brumos in Jacksonville. So there is that ..... and there is Amelia, Sebring, Daytona, Gainesville ... Maybe I'll stick around a while after all ...

did anyone say more engine bay detail ?? this is the Rev's Museum CSX2287 ... it is magnificently unrestored ... by the way - this car did speed trials on the Salt Flats WITH the carb tray installed ... So there !!! -
thanks V - quick note - youve done an excellent job on the Daytona Cobra engine - and although the build is a struggle - - Harold's engine bay details are the best that you could buy before the "3D printed engine era" that we are entering. when you compare Harold's Cobra engine to the engine - same scale - same era - in the Meng Ford GT40 kit ... well - insert joke here ...

Thank you Mr Slug - There can be no higher compliment …. Back from my travels - the random weather Gods treated me to Hurricane IDA - back to the workbench …. the Henry Ford On line research site and the Rev’s on line site have good photos of the 255 Ford as raced by the Lotus team on the 29 - these are essential - because the Museum Restored Gurney 29 is not using the same set-up …. So I’ve made the carb linkage with .015 nickel silver rod and some links made from Evergreen and some brass .025 nuts …. The tray above the carb bodies is alu sheet …. Some of the detail will be lost in the scale clutter - but it was not possible do this in 24th scale with this level of detail before 3D printed engines and carbs were available … there is some added detail to be added once I’ve sited and installed the Roll bar - some oF the engine bay stuff - the coil and the transistor ignition parts hang off if the roll bar supports …. and I’ve got to add the fuel line above the tray …

Well done Do you still have build I ?? how about a group shot ? ?? -
Watching the Lemans brcast yesterday - thought I had switched by mistake to a NASCAR road race … back to the engine… working with the Molotov for detail brush painting - are there any issues with shelf life for the dispenser ?? This is a good application for the ANYC printed bolts - they have thin stems and great relief detail … used for the gear case cover … the added bolts on the cylinder heads are the Russian Master Club bolt heads

I have photographed 3 of these beasts the nicest was a dark blue one that was shown at the Amelia Concourse about 4 yrs ago nice restrained restoration with Ridge wheels I wish the Mercedes engineers had tilted the engine to the right instead of the left all of those lovely engine details disappear under the hood and fenders - oh well ... -

This is a lesson for me and otherz like me ive not yet tackled this kit but it’s sitting patiently on a shelf waiting - I tend to get lost in the details - so that when it is finally time to paint the body the project has worn me out and I’m tempted to cut some corners- I’d sure like to get a finish like this on mine - maybe I’ll try painting the body first ….
