Snake, what color is the snapper? It is not molded in the dark blue is it?

It has been a good week to keep the mailman in business. I received a Franklin Mint Corvette Mako Shark and a WIX Ford GT40MKII, both at what I considered a reasonable price, less than current kit prices. The Mako Shark is pretty spectacular and I could find no faults. The version they modeled is the one updated with mag wheels and an ZL-I engine. The WIX Ford GT40MKII is the only diecast in 1/24 that I know of and is modeled on the Holman and Moody continuation car, thus the non original markings. My plan is to change the markings to the 1966 yellow Ford #8 at Le Mans and tone done the wheels and move the rearview mirror from inside to outside the drivers side window. I am not going to bother with the Gurney hump on the drivers door.

Nicely done. That looks so cool, oops, Ray already said that.

Stars and Stripes Greenwood/Smothers Corvette Sebring 1971 Scott Kercher built this model from the Revell kit 85-2825. Scott is a real sticker for accuracy and realism in his models. After extensive research Scott made the following changes to the Revell kit documented in his build sheet. For the body he added a spoiler under the front, driving lights on front, re-profiled rear flairs and added small flairs on the front fenders. Opened the gas tank flap, no parking or back-up lights, no chrome plate holder on rear, no chrome taillight bezels, no emblems and moved the top back 1/16 to fit with duct tape across the top of the windshield. The turn signals in the grill were drilled out as well. For the interior he used a new steering wheel and column, full roll bar cage, new shifter and console delete, new dash, add p/e seatbelt for the driver’s seat. He added a fire bottle in the passenger foot well, cut out rear deck for the roll bar, and used a stock Corvette passenger seat. Externally Scott used bigger side pipes, HRM Minilites, removed the spare and added a large gas tank, 2 number recognition lights on both doors and Corvair engine fan brake extractors. He lowered the front suspension by making new coil springs. For the engine compartment, he added an oil cooler, oil filter, and wiring along with some fine screen around the carb filter. Deleted the fan, put an expansion tank on the passenger side firewall and added the roll bar hoops in the engine compartment with an open battery box on the passenger side. oil filter and wiring along The paint is Krylon white, and the beautiful Cartograph decals fit much better than he thought they would! The Goodyear tire stencils are by Replica and Miniatures of Maryland.

1/25 Revell '63 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe SnapTite
Gramps46 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Bob, great looking builds. Did you have to trim the VRM hood grilles just a tad? Its like they were scaled for 1/24 instead of 1/25. -
Great collection of survivors. Thank you for sharing them I hope you have a speedy recovery.
-
I agree with Randy. Thanks for sharing these models.

Thanks for posting the Brabham Rich. It is gorgeous!

Now you have gone and done it, got my juices flowing. Did not know about a silver one.
-
The overspray on the underside is a nice touch. Well done.
-
For any one who builds that version of the coupe be aware the grilles in the hood are very shallow so mask them before you paint and paint them after the body color. I learned this the hard way.

Just a small note but in the 50s and before the chrome was very heavy and you will see old junkers with good chrome that did not rust.

Impressive make over, well done. -
Excellent build of one of the 1950's icon cars.

Nice. Hachette is doing a lot of model cars we don't see here. Thanks for sharing. Your models posted on your forum are outstanding. http://rcforum.ru/showthread.php?t=58172

Very nicely done! I really like how you did the spoked wheels. I am a big believer that the spokes should be darker than the rims for a more realistic look and you have proven here.
-
Now that is very nice and very unique. What scale is it? Nice collection of models in your Flickr album too.

WIX '67 Chevelle SS396--Now with Snake-Fu! 1/25/18
Gramps46 replied to Snake45's topic in Diecast Corner
Understand. I was just comparing it to the Revell. My bad. -
The model and photos shot on film are from Scott Kercher. Scott has a well-deserved reputation for accuracy and realism. The Ferrari factory in 1967 introduced for endurance racing the 412P for their racing customers like NART, the North American Racing Team. This Fujimi P4 kit was converted to a customer 412P for the Le Mans 24 Hour race. The biggest difference is the factory cars were fuel injected and the customer cars had carbs. The deck under the rear glass is just flat sheet with a large bump to clear the carbs. Lots of changes to the lumps and bumps and scoops. The rear glass is also different on the cars and the 412P also sports a large pedal box in the scoop on the front. Paint is Tamiya Racing White with Tamiya Royal Blue stripe. Decals are from UMI and the NART on the driver’s door are vinyl press-on stickers! Sorry no engine pictures.

I must admit I was fearful when I saw the title because my first car was a Healey but you have done this one proud. Thanks for sharing.
